Among the numerous lakes in Pakistan known for their azure waters and mountainous surroundings, Kutwal Lake stands distinct for its strikingly tree-lined shores. Nestled in the fairy-tale-esque Haramosh Valley of Gilgit District, in the Gilgit-Baltistan region, 'Kutwal' sits serenely at an elevation of 3100 meters. This emerald-colored lake finds itself framed by the colossal Haramosh Peak, soaring majestically at 7409 meters. The picturesque setting crafts a dreamlike spectacle that defies description with mere words!
How to Get to Kutwal Lake?
Getting there involves venturing into the stunningly beautiful Haramosh Valley, situated approximately 65 kilometres east of Gilgit along the Jaglot-Skardu Road, in the south-central part of Rakaposhi-Haramosh Mountains, a sub-range within the formidable Karakoram range. Serving as the valley's base camp, Sassi village lies 27 kilometres from Jaglot and 122 kilometres from Chilas. From Sassi, a winding 16-kilometer mountainous jeep track leads to Dasso village, the starting point of a challenging 15 to 17 kilometre trek.
There are two different hiking routes to access to the Lake;
i) Dasso village to Iskere, Godaye Forest, Haramosh Glacier, Kutwal Village, and Kutwal Lake
ii) Dasso to Barchi village, Gouro, Kutwal village, and Kutwal Lake
