Mom and her 5th grade son came to rentMYinstrument.com physical store location in Kansas City, MO, to get fitted for an instrument. Cooper, who will be entering 5th grade, was interested in playing an instrument. Ralph Weber, who has been fitting students for musical instruments for 31+ years, sits down with Cooper to figure out which instrument might be the best for him. Every student has different physical features which help determine which instruments are best for them. Some students naturally make a sound on the trumpet or trombone, while others naturally make a great sound on the clarinet or saxophone. Some students find playing the flute to be a natural motion.
Did this man just say the saxophone was the easiest instrument then why would they recommend the clarinet first I'm triggerd
true, it is claimed easier tho. That's how I started out. Now I play both Bb clarinet and Bb Tenor Sax.
Same
The saxophone is super heavy for younger students, they start them off on clarinet because it’s much smaller for them and it makes it nice to transition to saxophone, since clarinets are finicky to play when you begin. Also, saxophones are also way more expensive like he said.
It’s easier to switch from clarinet to saxophone, than saxophone to clarinet. Clarinet is more difficult because you have to fill the holes with your fingers and saxophone you don’t have to
Exactly
Since when is there only two brass instruments!? What about the french horn, euphonium, and tuba!!!!!!!!!!
void gaming Chill
SioRix IKR IM TRIGGERED
For city grade bands there are usually only Trumpet and Trombone, and when they go on they'll switch instruments
+SioRix I'm offended that french horn isn't on here
Yes! Lol I skipped the whole vid looking for him to try a French horn!!
The whole time the mom looked like,
*Why did he have to pick band?*
same bro 😂
"The alto saxophone is also the most expensive. hoo-hoo boy wait until you hear how much a Bassoon is.
Haha Fr
The Same as a tuba
Oboe too!
8th grade band jazz, trombone and baritone, shoutout to all trumbones, I changed this comment from last year up to now, last year was 7th
ISSAC DAVILA Yo I play trombone also going to all region
Spottierfriend • m
heh tromboner
Yeet
ISSAC DAVILA my second trombonee year. it's Goin good
Percussion can be crazy when u play several different instruments during the same song
The very end: “Percussion.”
6th grade me: “Oh come on!
Ummm as soon as i looked at him i had a feeling he'd be a trumpet
naw he looks more like a clarinet
dang must be nice to be privileged to experience a variety of instruments in elementary school lmao
its not like hes fully buying them
I believe anyone can play any of the band instruments, some might be harder to learn, but it works for anyone. Something I might suggest is giving the kid more time with the instruments, and learn what role they play, etc. And maybe include the French horn, euphonium, tuba, and some of the percussion instruments.
Wdym tuba is easy asf
as a band kid myself my teacher said those instruments are more difficult to start on instead of french horn start on trumpet instead of euphonium and tuba start on trombone and when your teaching a whole class you don’t have time to give more time all band directors do this and whatever they think is good for the band and how they do is good
WHY DIDN'T THEY GO OVER PERCUSSION :(
ARDNASSAC LOTSIRB I believe that's a last resort...?
Are you serious? Percussion and drums are difficult if you play advanced things. I am a drummer and that's pretty offensive.
ARDNASSAC LOTSIRB I'm unsure, but it is hard.... I just figured out they don't fit for that instrument group. Sorry!
Hope Studios No worries! It's a common misconception, plus I was in a sensitive mood when I typed that 😉
Thay don't teach them to primary school people
I just started to play trumpet this year, and I love it!
Bets piece of advice keep at it don't stop when it gets hard I've been playing trumpet since 6th grad now I'm in 7th and do marching band never stop trying to learn new things practice practice practice especially in early days
I'm in 6th grade and I'm band and I play baritone
@@BLE751 lol they’ve played longer than you
Bet I got put in trumpet and I was sad but people say it’s fun :)
In 6th grade I was tested on what instrument was best for me . I was giving the clarinet and I learned to play it and enjoyed playing it for the whole year of 6th grade but in 7th grade I heard one of the most cleanest tuba solos and quickly fell in love with it . Now I'm going to the eighth grade and I still dream of playing the tuba before my middle school days are over and if i ever get the chance to I hope to keep playing the tuba into my high school years . I still think to myself what would've happened if my 6th grade band teacher gave me a chance with my dream instrument the tuba .
Does your director not let you switch? I’ve just switched to the trumpet from the flute
i started playing the tuba in 6th grade, its a very cool instrument. you should really try and play it sometime!
@@tran_sn0w326 sadly no......
@@tran_sn0w326damn, they let us switch but it would be embarrassing bc like wont you be extremely behind from everyone else 😭
I get why he doesn’t let you switch, you would have to relearn literally everything, even reading music since tuba is in bass clef.
me the entire video: stop holding the instruments for him when he's playing them!!!!!!
I'm a trumpet player
A flying Doge me too
A flying Doge im a trumbone player
Yea trumpet is the best lol
Rawry the dinosaur same
trombone for me
Where my percussionists, trumpet and trombone players at
I'm currently a Clarinet and Flute Player. I've been playing Clarinet for a year, and Flute for a few months. I'm thinking of switching flute to Trumpet because I can't get that many flute fingerings correct.
But I love band and will never quit
Keep going! Don't give up flute if you have a passion for it but struggle a bit. Decide what brings you the most joy and go with that instrument(s)!
(I'm a trumpet player so I agree with switching to trumpet tho lol but no seriously)
I wish we had this in Elementary school, they had the middle school music teachers come in and we each got to try two instruments for a few seconds. I ended up picking cello, hated it. 6th grade I wanted to Switch to saxophone, my teacher talked me out of it and I picked trumpet. Never looked back.
Beginning band in Louisiana in the 1960's. The first day of 6th grade began in the gym and the first question you were asked when entering the door is "do you want to be in band"? If so, go stand against a particular wall to be put in class so that once a week we could go to band. We were brought in to the band room where one of each instrument was available to look at and hold. I chose the trombone as I was told there were only 7 positions (a misnomer) and no keys to push down. We were told to bring money to class to purchase a starter kit for our instrument including a method book, mouthpiece, slide oil etc. The school provided used instruments and I remember having to wait about two weeks to get an instrument. The band director was an older gentleman and didn't have much patience for beginning band so there were many days we'd play about 10 minutes of the possible 50 minutes in class and then be told to put our instruments away.
Most bands don’t start kids on any brass instrument other than trumpet or trombone. After a semester that’s when the best players are given the option to play French Horn, baritone or tuba
I did my first band year differently. In fifth grade through sixth grade I played the alto sax, in seventh grade (currently) I switched to the bari sax.
you play Bari... in 7th grade?
kinda similar to you i played alto sax in 4th and 5th and switched to baritone (brass baritone) in 6th and 7th which i am in now
@@21fan wow Im starting the alto sax in 8th and might take a week class during the summer, and im pretty stressed that im so behind
I’m so glad younger students are given the chance to play Bari. It truly is the best saxophone. I started on clarinet in 4th grade, and it’s still my main instrument today. I play Bari sax in the jazz band, but I have access to all 4 main saxophones right at my home, and I play flute as well. If students are given the opportunity to double on other instruments they will fall in love.
no bari sax im triggered
Cooldood ! The bari would be bigger than the poor sod!
true
no it wouldn't be bigger than him..you can shrink the instrument...
No tenor either
It's because the alto is better #AltoSaxMasterRace
He made smooth sounds on the instruments but some people don’t even still know how to play and we are halfway through
He sounds better than my trombones
Calling all squid wards, calling all squidwards
Squidward is here
Ayyyyy
Always make sure to give someone a chance on flute no matter their lips. When I was picking an instrument my director said I probably wouldn’t be able to play flute because of my large upper lip. He told me he would have me try again at the end of the semester for a new instrument because he thought I couldn’t do it. He ended us not even doing that and has told multiple times that I’m the best in my section.
He has a really good B flat on the bass trombone, potential
Ha! "If you play trombone in the marching band, most of the time you'll be in front".
How about no
mason inman Lmao for real, my band has a little bit of every instrument at the front, some bands will put trombones near the back.
mason inman no flute then clarinet then yours
Yeah. I'm pretty sure that's like piccolo
In the marching band I was in, the marshal put trombones at the front because they provided a rich sound for the rest of the band, as well as didn't hit anybody from behind.
I started playing the saxophone for my first time in band. Saxophone is easy I love to play it.
I started band when I was in 4th grade at the age of 10. I started off with the drums because I always wanted to be a drummer playing in a band. I learned to play the alto saxophone when I was in 6th grade because I really like the saxophone and I wanted to learn a second instrument. I learned to play the tenor saxophone and bass clarinet when I was in middle school. I had a friend who played the bass clarinet when we were in 5th grade which was cool.
Now as a freshman, I am going to learn how to play the trumpet for jazz band when I go back to school once the pandemic is over. I can also play a little bit of electric guitar because one of my friends taught me. I know only play the intro for the song smoke on the water. I am also learning how to play the ukulele because I asked for one for Christmas.
To be honest, I wish that I got to try out all of those instruments back when I was in 4th grade because that would of been cool!
I got my trumpet
9th grade marching, consert, and probably all state honor band... alto sax it's always cool to see people to start off and get better
i started 5th grade with clarinet only for that year ,then i switched to tenor sax ( i skipped alto) as soon as i could. now i play bari sax in marching band and concert band and sometime i play bass guitar for jazz band.
I play trombone
Same
Rob Smith yay another low brass
6 Wavy i play trombone
6 Wavy baritone rules
6 Wavy Same
He was best on the trombone
#trombonegang
I am in 6th grade right now and I playing Clarinet since the start of the year. The clarinet is a really fun instrument to play but at the beginning it's really easy. Coming to the end the notes get harder and you have to play really low notes. I don't regret my decision for picking Clarinet. Clarinet is one of the best instruments in my opinion. 🎼
I got my first trumpet today!!!
I play Trombone for Marching and Bass Trombone for Jazz and concert after my freshman year.
Green ProDuctions Universe same but I'm in 7th grade
GLORIA MCFARLANE there is no marching for seventh grade
Draco Azizbi There is depending on what school you’re in.
It's "too" not "poo" when you're playing the flute .-.
I do more of a mix of doo and too for flute
I agree that poo makes you lose air
Trombone player since 5th grade. You can go high or you can go low! 23 now and still play in church. So glad I had an interest in band.
I started on the oboe thinking I wanted to play the clarinet or saxophone.
Best choice I made (:
best choice I made was switching from trombone to bassoon:)
Best choice I made is to stop mainly playing percussion and tenor sax and play euphonium :)
I’m in 8th grade and I have been playing clarinet for 3 years and I’m starting to switch to sax for jazz and I love my clarinet but I will say it is an extremely challenging instrument. The reason I say this is because it’s hard to tune, the break can be hard to learn at first. And it can be frustrating at times but when you learn the clarinet you are already 70% of the way to playing sax
You said you're switching to sax from jazz but then, you also said you already learned 70% of jazz. So I'm confused.
Shout Out to all the SAXOPHONE players out there
I play clarinet, bass clarinet, baritone/euphonium, and trumpet
I began tenor sax in 6th grade. I was gonna be a percussionist. But it's fun to know more than one instrument.
Triggered no snare
IKR they didn't show him any of the percussion instruments
Ty Bowser snare is loud and can get anyoning
Xkjone012 j it's still a very important instrument you fucking idiot. Learn to spell annoying

I was in grade school back in the 70s, had a neighbor who played saxophone in marching band and later picked up a bass guitar. I was able to learn sax in 4th grade, rudiment snare in the 6th, trombone and trumpet through jr.high and high school. Picked up a tuba senior year of high school. Through college studied orchestral percussion and keyboards(marimba, xylophone, vibraphone) Public education back then provided all those instruments. Keyboards were shared with a few other keyboard artists at the college( $8000 for a Rosewood 4 1/3 marimba)
I have neighbors who started their kid on drum set a few months ago. Well, let’s say it’s peaceful around here. He prefers to play video games.
If you have a chance, reach out to your instructors and say thanks.

I play the saxophone 🎷🎷
tubas cost up to 10000 dollars lol
Spottierfriend • Mostly expensive saxophones are antiques sold at auctions. Modern saxophones still cost quite a lot because of the craftsmanship and materials used in their making, but a saxophone that was played by a famous jazz musician in 1930 is definitely going to go for roughly $300,000 to $1.2 million, depending on the scarcity of the saxophone at the time, the builder, the musician who played it, the unique parts or imperfections of the instrument that give it a superior sound compared to others of the exact same model, how old it is, etcetera.
Elijah grubb. a yamaha baby tuba is 36000 and to repair a four valve 2600
I got my tuba for $150 .
