      I have also spent time in China. That was also my observation. Great Cell phone service in the most remote locations. Infrastructure is amazing. There are issues with building quality, but not surprising with the rate of growth there. The US could learn a lot from China. I'm not going to argue political systems, I'm only discussing the cities and places I've been. Shanghai, Beijing, Anhui, Wuhan, and other "poorer" locations. Yes, there is poverty, and yes, there is income inequality. But that does not diminish what accomplishments China has made...

      Actually, China is playing disregarding all the rules, counting on the rest of the world not antagonising them so not to loose "their slice" of the Chinese market... which does not exist. Need an example? Check their LCAC, their FC31, the J-11, H6, or any other of their rip-offs, big and small. Their policies on product imports, foreign investment manufacturing permits, or their students and researchers in US universities, or grants to such universities. The laws which requires every citizen's personal information to be available to the government 24/7, including biometrics. No, my friend. Lets try on a level field, by the rules, and see just how "far ahead" they really are.

    Jason, I myself have also watched this incredible progress in China because I kept going every year since 2011 until Including 2019.
    I have seen year after year all the aspects you mention and much more.
    Confucian teachings and values play a most important part in this mesmerizing development:
    Hard work
    Hard effort
    Hard study
    Merit
    Savings
    Great respect towards parents and professors
    Great respect towards ancestors
    A very strong family
    Thinking in terms of "Us" instead of "Me"
    These items together with stable public policies are the keys.
    Nothing strange or miraculous but the above values have now almost completely disappeared in the Western world that totally ignores what's really going on now in China and don't even want to know or find out.
    Who was it that said "human stupidity is infinite"? Quite right he was !!!

    • @MariaAlvarez-sm8bv
      @MariaAlvarez-sm8bv 3 роки тому +68

      @dyrectory com I'm glad you have appreciated my comment. Thank you so much.
      I'm a University graduated translator specialized in social sciences and law.
      My mother used to read a lot about China, both Chinese writers and Westerner writers residing in China and in my very early childhood before I started reading she would tell me lots of interesting things about this country, therefore in such a way she aroused my curiosity about China.
      As a consequence I had always been interested in China, kept reading, watching Chinese films, etc, etc, and finally made my first trip to China in 2011 thinking it was going to be my first and only trip. I live in Argentina and it's really a very long way from my country to China, but this first trip made me feel so impressed and curious about the country that actually I couldn't stop going back again and again every year trying to learn more and more. I've made Chinese friends and Westerner friends living in China a fact that contributes a lot to a better understanding of a society. Besides, I never take tours when I travel, being an observer I prefer the "slow traveling" style and getting acquainted with local people and habits.
      I have two or three friends in my country who have also been more than once in China. They are the only persons with whom I can freely talk about China because they share the same positive vision and opinion about the country but it's quite impossible to have any serious conversation with any other person because they are thoroughly brainwashed by Western media and they prefer to believe what these media say instead of believing what a person who has been many times in China says and the same happens with my friends. No matter what you say and write, no matter the pictures you may show, they'd always prefer to believe what media say and write.
      To my satisfaction at least one young oil engineer of my acquaintance has paid attention to my narrations about China, is now studying mandarin and planning a trip to China. Ha, ha, I feel so happy that all my "preachings" have had a little bit of success in a young and intelligent person.

      @@MariaAlvarez-sm8bv Thanks for the thorough reply. I appreciated it just as much, if not more. I has validated my experiences will my attempts to show the 'real' or the other side of China to friends - they choose to hold onto the MSM (mainstream media) version. As a result, I totally concur that there are limited people you can have a positive conversation with, including quite a bit of people of Chinese descent but born in Canada. FYI, I live in Canada.
      Your situation is much more unique that it was your mother who stirred your curiosity about China. This is a much more personal question...how did you mother end up being so interested in China? You don't have this answer this question in public if it's too personal. BTW, do you have a YT channel?

    • @MariaAlvarez-sm8bv
      @MariaAlvarez-sm8bv 3 роки тому +32

      @dyrectory com - Oh I'm sure my mother would have been very flattered with your question about her interest in China.
      My mother was Brazilian and a voracious reader in Portuguese, English, French, Italian and Spanish. She was interested in almost all subjects and not only in China but also in other Eastern and Middle Eastern countries and would also tell to me stories about those other countries. For reasons that I ignore I try to remember and think she was mostly impressed and interested about China. Maybe Pearl Buck's and Lin Yutang's and their books among other the works of other authors played an important part in her preferences.
      Since I don't like to visit too many countries or places in one single trip, so, on the occasion of my first trip to Asia I decided to visit just four destinations there plus Hanoi because I had seen a lot of films and videos about Halong Bay and I wished to visit that place.
      Having done my first trip I decided that I wanted to concentrate on China thus trying to achieve a deeper knowledge of one country only instead of having a superficial knowledge of a wider number if Asian countries.
      My trips to China have lasted 40 or 45 days and usually repeating two places I had visited before combined with two new destinations.
      Another factor that probably greatly stimulated my interest in China was an English grammar professor I had at the University. He was a fascinating old English gentleman that had been an English professor in China during several years of the first half of last century. He loved China and a small group of his English grammar students (I among them) would stay until late listening the stories he would tell us about China once the English grammar lecture had ended.
      And finally, I don't have a UA-cam channel but I follow Jason, Daniel Dumbrill, Jabiertzo, an excellent sociologist UA-camr married to a Chinese girl and living in Changsha (Spanish language videos maybe with Mandarin subtitles, I'm not sure) and two first level academics: Martin Jacques and Kishore Mahbubani. I have learned a lot with their videos.

I am familiar every individual you have mentioned with the exception of Jabiertzo, probably because I don't understand Spanish. thats just true. Even when i was visiting china for the very first time in 2005 i was so impressed about the fast development of the infrastructur. That time it mainly was in the biggest cities where i could see every time a new line acomplished when i came back. the speed of development was mind blowing for me as a swiss. a lot of peoples were thinking that will end as fast as it has started. but with the impressive rise of consumption in china itself the own economy has more opportunities and even more important: china got a much higher power in the world economy. who can ignore the largest market on this planet? because of the policy of the western world some obstacles still are there (as the chip-production for exemple). but that country with that people will suceed for sure. so much creativity, motivation to improve themselves, motivation to realize great projects cant be stopped so easily.

    Jason, you produced an amazing video here. It's one of the most accurate capture and summation of China I have watched in a long time (as an Aussie, I've been to China myself and I am aware of the truth you state). It's so frustrating seeing our Western Media totally ignore all of these wonderful progresses China has made. Unfortunately we have a SMALL PERCENTAGE of USA Corporate Billionaires who are doing this out of shire jealousy. The USA have just passed a $1 BILLION funding over the next 3 years (i.e. over $300 Million spending a year) to pay Western Media to TRASH China. WTF!!!! Instead of these Corporate Billionaires paying their fair share of taxes to help their own society, they invest in trying to STOP China's developments for their own people. What these Corporate Billionaires in the USA don't seem to realise is that if they just paid their fair share of taxes to their Government, the USA would be at same level of development as China.

    • @mabel8179

      That is disgraceful- those billionaires should be ashamed of themselves. What kind of person lives in luxury and leaves his fellow citizens to live in squalor? Proves to me that they are psychopaths. Any normal business person would be ashamed of his country decaying (as the USA is) and be investing and working to improve it.
