- SUFFOCATION has been terrorizing eardrums since 1988 with the most Brutal Death Metal that has gone through 3 decades and more than their share of turbulence. Some of the most amazing talent has been a part of their Legacy Of Violence and contributed in making SUFFO' one of the best Death Metal bands of all time. As another page turns in a new era in the form of their new album 'Hymns From The Apocrypha', Derek Boyer took a break from their rehearsals for their recent tour in Mexico, to talk about the new album.
In what has to be the most in-depth and totally fun interview I've ever had, it was an absolute pleasure to talk to one of my favorite bands. In our conversation that lasted nearly an hour we got to hear Derek's thoughts about the new album and all the planning that went into this new record, Ricky Myers taking over for the Legend Frank Mullen, major gear talk and explanation of his Basses from THE DEVILS CHOICE out of Germany, how he developed his infamous and unique stage stance - and so... much... more.

Got to know Derek a little bit back in like 2002. Really cool dude. Deprecated was pretty sick. I was stoked when he joined Suffo.
Derek isn't full of it, I've gotten wasted w Suffo a few separate times and they don't know me, just a fan, but they're would buy me drinks, smoke out w Hobbs, etc. I've seen that band 21 times and am still just as hyped to see them as my first time in 04.

I know what you mean, I have followed Suffo for the past 13 years but damn, I mean this looks like that or severe adhd, I have seen him in interviews be a bit more calm, may be the new album. @@Poser_Metal_Records
If he was on coke, he would be sniffling and wiping his nose, at least a few times. I think he is just naturally would up. It's actually weird to me to see someone smoking cigarettes now.
I was talking with someone about that the other day, but its surprising just how many people still smoke and smoke cigarettes, I hate them. And yea you're probably right, sometimes dealing with people like this makes me wish I had a tranq dart and I could just get them to chill. @@ChappySinclaire
