One of my daughters is 10 and currently asleep. This video makes me want to wake her up, to start studying with me. :) This was a great story, and congrats to the Jones.
The point the mom makes at the end about how teaching something helps you understand it better, that's one of the core values of the Cisco Learning Network right there...
Matt Saunders , you are right too but actually it applies all across our knowledge and experience especially when we know we know something it's called knowledge but when we teach someone what we know is actually an audit of what you know. there is no better way to get fair audit of your knowledge then teaching.
I've 3 CCIEs and I tried to teach my bigger daughter (middle school) but she is not interested. Well, I will try with my little one (still elementary), maybe I will get better luck when the time is right.
great respect for both, especially for the mother WHO was able to pass it on the first attempt and then able to make her own daughter to assimilate this and accomplish it. WoW, Cheers...
hiii you both are so lucky, wish you all the very best in each and every step of life. I am also CCIE holder but living in a country where people believe Networking field is not for females
Who would thumbs down this vid? Are the thumbs-downers those who don't realize that IT and IT security need over 3 million more people by 2020? Unless the 'guys' start instant-replication of themselves, those jobs will need to be filled by women, people of color, learners, and more diverse people. Oh yeah, and you'd better start PAYING EVERYONE EQUALLY!!!!
Oh damn i was not able to get pass it with 2 attempts it was CCIE security. First time my ntp server hesitated to get sync to let me download CA certificate. Next time my WLC didnt worked accordingly. Both where different labs.. Third attempt i am afraid.. Congrats for mother and daughter. In India many female friends did cleared in their first attempts..
athul tk If you feel that you are having a hard time learning the material, try reading this book that basically teaches you how to learn. : "Brian Tracy, Accelerated Learning Techniques". It has helped me immensely on learning anything now! We are in the information age! Take advantage on your brain power!!
+athul tk No problem man! I got the audio version because I find it easier for me to take in the information. Everyone is a different learner, keep in mind.
HEllo cisco :D I am looking at a project to implement ipsec tunnels and im looking to use VPLs instead of mpls have you tried a similar set up? what would be your advice thanks in advance
I am CCNA certified, about computer network, the most important things are IP address, you have to be very familiar with private IP and public IP, especially private IP address classes, the next things will be subnet, of course switches, managed switch and routers as well, and firewall because todays, networking definitely involve with firewall, antiviruses are not good enough to protect your entire LAN, you have to at least got concept of firewall, etc fortigate, watchguard,juniper,sonicwall...and so on but back to the point in order to understand more about networking, basically and the most important one is ip address, you know ip and subnet very well then I believe there will not be a problem for you to do configurations and setting up network devices and to go further, the rest depends on the device itself, because about policies setting or configurations setting maybe slidely a bit different but the logic and the concept almost the same
Hi Oswaldo, look around. They are there. Because it is a male-dominated 'business,' the males DO DISCRIMINATE against women. Maybe you can help to change that!!
This could be my daughter and me. She asks me how the Internet works and how cell towers work and she loves science and technology. She may have more luck getting a job that I have.

I have never met or even seen a woman in IT. Yeah, there was like 1 or 2 in my College Classes, but never at work.

Wow!
"Male-oriented jobs" or "difficult jobs with long hours, the opposite of sitting at a desk and answering calls."
This could be my daughter and me. She asks me how the Internet works and how cell towers work and she loves science and technology. She may have more luck getting a job that I have.
Have a cat as a study partner, I'll try that out with my pet.
