Thank you guys showing more than Google street view! The 2/5 train tunnel extends (it's covered up) so that could be a transfer walkway. They should put the Avenue H platform directly underneath the Q train platform. I wouldn't call the line abandoned given that it's in use.
That building you were asking questions about at East 15 street was an original BRT sub station last used in the early 1960s. It was constructed back in 1901 when the Brighton line was operated at grade by trolley wire. Before the Brighton line was elevated, it crossed the LIRR at grade.
Thanks for the explanation! I only wonder if people are allowed to go inside the building. I wouldn’t be surprised though if it’s prohibited
@@MTAProdigy No, it is fenced in and locked up. I have seen pictures inside. It is trashed due to a roof collapse. The copper thieves attacked the rotary converters (that are still there). I would LOVE to get in there too. Enjoy and be safe.
Lived next to the line at Ocean Ave. The portion that was above Ocean Ave actually had 3 tracks at one point (1980's?), two thru tracks and one additional short siding on the southern side of the double track, that went into an enclosed car barn...for locomotives?... it was open only on the second sidewalk/east side of their report there, they could not see it from above, but was bricked up because of vandalism and fires.
I walked the line from that point to the western end at the Bay Ridge/65th street yards, with buddies Bruce and Ed...an urban adventure!
If they build this line, they should make it like London's Crossrail. Farther stop spacing than subways with catenaries as opposed to third-rail power, but include lots of standing space & longitudinal seating as well as plenty of exits to increase capacity and make boarding quick. Use long 10-car trains that can hold hundreds of people. Run the train every 5 minutes. Ideally, the completed IBX should include four tracks (2 express, 2 local), with freight trains allowed to use the local tracks, and should be extended across the Hell Gate Bridge to the Bronx on the north and to Staten Island via a tunnel on the south. Then, it will truly be an "interborough" express that connects all four outer boroughs.
Thank- you for taking time ⏳ out of your schedule and show us a little about The Interboro Express. Now can a sample on how the new ink can traveling once everything goes thought in favor of the project. Witch I hope gose thought. This new route. Will cut my commute in half to and from work!!! And it will contect to alot of Subway routes as we as Bus routes between Brookyln and Queens !!!!! With out touching manhattan. Now that's great 👍!!!!!
Thanks for showing us these potentials IBX stops. I hope the MTA builds this new line and won’t take too long to complete. Less than 5 years from now??
Incredible videos. But at every stop you visited I saw the same limitations. You can possibly put in a second track but the MTA has said they don't want to use the existing track so that means putting in TWO more tracks which seems to be impossible. At Ave. H it doesn't look like there is more that 20 feet of room. At Nostrand it looks like the same problem. And how would they possibly fit bus service down there. Just seems ill conceived from the beginning.
There going put side platform at Avenue H & E 15 St for The Interboro express Since There Adding a 2nd Track to it.
The track isnt exactly abandoned, its underused. Going west it leads to an active rail yard in Bay Ridge at 65th Street.
Hey man can we collaborate I have drone footage of the entire IBX stations
It is not an abandoned line. NYNJ Rail at 65th St Yard carries ~5,000 revenue cars per year. NY&A at Fresh Pond handles >30,000 revenue cars per year. Many of those railcars were carried through this line.
Pataki and Giuliani did serious damage to the MTA. Here's to hoping we see that reversed with the implementation of lines like this and the montauk extension.
Well, I think it's a stupid idea because it doesn't go into Manhattan just across from queens to Brooklyn or Red Hook.Yeah, I live in Brooklyn.I don't see what the benefit of it would be
That would be awesome, but where are they going to place the stations? 🚉 Getting from the tracks to the street level seems challenging.
🍕🥯🌭 Brooklyn 🎠🎡🎢
They'll squeeze them in. Metro North Hudson line has veeery skinny stations at some stops
Nah most of the station ms are gonna be island platforms and stairs are gonna be built as well as escalators
As a native Brooklyn New Yorker, this line would be a dream come true. I'm 34 years old and all I know of this line is it always being abandoned minus the occasional freight car or two. It would be amazing to see this line alive and functional.
Agreed.
