    I love this and I think this is one of the best things when teaching yourself, because there is no better motivator in my opinion than a problem that affects you.

    Thank you so much for this informative video. I’ve been reading the Problem-based learning for too long right now and still has no idea on how to present this, all the words just kept going around and I am not able to understand a bit, nor I can differentiate Problem-base to Project-base, until I founf your video. This helped me a lot, now I’m confident with my presentation. I am a third year education student major in English. Truly, youtube is a helping friend. Yoy explained the meaning within 5minutes and it is understandable unlike what is provided in the internet hehe

    I find this video helpful because this is relevant for our undergraduate research and development paper. We need to make a problem-based digital learning package. Thank you for this video.

    Hi John. This is excellent, thank you for sharing. I am starting in a new position and will be trying to inculcate problem based learning as a general approach, wherever appropriate across the whole school. I'll let you know how we get on if you like :-)

    Hi John, I really like the visuals in your videos, how did you do that?! I too am doing a research project on this subject and I am reading that PBL started at McMaster University in the mid 1960's. I am just wondering where you got your sources from because it is contradicting to my findings!

    It is indeed a very good video crisp and lucid. Just a quick clarification- was in Case Western for medical or McMasters for medical?

    Thanks for the helpful video. Would you say that Design Thinking is a strategy used in PBL, or are they considered two different learning models or methodologies?

    • @spencereducation
      @spencereducation  3 роки тому

      I would describe PBL as a pedagogical approach and design thinking as a creative approach. I think you can use design thinking as a framework for how you design PBL lessons.

    Hey john .. Can you please suggest me some good strategies/activities for teaching Problem based learning in Mathematics for primary classes?

    • @spencereducation
      @spencereducation  Рік тому

      One of my favorite short examples of this is having students plan a wind farm using arrays. It's problem-based but it lasts 35-45 minutes and develops problem-solving and conceptual understanding.

    My experience @ CSU is students are not the sticking point - they will moan but get with it. Staff insist if they don't tell students stuff they can't deal with questions problems - who is a lecturer if they don't tell students what to think? Give me the silver bullet/wooden stake to kill the vampires sucking curiosity out of students (Einstein wondered how curiosity survived formal education).

    a learning problem is when the heart cant heat multiple veins at once to send blood to all the regions needed to be able to learn , thats why people who have strokes have regions of the brain that get cold because the heart cant heat those regions and thats what makes it so they can function normally and only when those regions get heated again can they function normally, thats also the resion when people have a seizure their body temperauter goes up because the heart is trying to heat muliple veins to send blood away from the viens that are preventing the blood from being sent to other parts of the body which usually with people having seizures is the brain but is not limited to only the brain

    how do we solve the problems while we don't teach student about how to use the tools to solve problems in first place ???

  • @choiyeonjun8915

    • @donnymontreano9235

      the word "learning" isn't the same with "method"
      learning means that you have to evaluate all the implemented plans. So you can learn what are the weaknesses of your plans and you improve it later.
      "Method" doesn't learn and improve like that.

    I thought if it involves building a product it is not considered as a problem Based learning but it is in the spectrum of project based learning

    • @spencereducation
      @spencereducation  2 місяці тому

      There's some overlap between the two. Problem-based learning doesn't need to have a product but it often does have a product. Project-based learning needs to have a product. In the research, there's often such a strong overlap between the components of both approaches that they will include both strategies on things like student and teacher surveys or on measures of student achievement.

    What is the difference between problem based learning and project based learning?

    • @spencereducation
      @spencereducation  2 місяці тому

      One of the key differences is the authentic audience and the actual product in project-based learning. Problem-based learning can be shorter and include fictional scenarios but project-based learning requires real-world tie-in.

    Why are there so many problems in the kid's world in the first place?

  • @ThePROFESS10NAL
    @ThePROFESS10NAL Рік тому

    Interesting but it could have some students fighting unnecessarily to get their ideas to the top when they could just do it on their own in their own way. I don’t like the collaborative aspect.

    • @spencereducation
      @spencereducation  Рік тому

      I see your point but often in life we solve problems collaboratively. Perhaps it will lead to conflict but maybe that's also a vital lifelong skill.
