Those hotel chairs are awesome.
This episode even includes Jerry Lewis as Professor Julius.
As of 2022 this video has just over 18-thousand views; that's just over 18-thousand more than saw it when it first aired.
Jerry only had enough schtick for a show or two. Charlie Calis wore thin with me a couple of seconds into his "announcing." LOL. I really liked this show though. Thanks for sharing.
I distinctly remember watching this episode when it was aired. Always loved Jerry's movies.
I'm noting that when Jerry interviews, he inserts himself as a revelator of truth. It eclipses the guest and makes the pace go in fits and starts. Carson was smooth an gracious of giving attention to the guest, though he was was manipulating everything at the same time. So this show is just awkward. It probably sold to the network, because of the weight of Jerry Lewis' legacy but never found itself in the format. Jerry needs to be the center, although Charlie Callas as a co-host is a complete wild card to any theory about the show ! What were they thinking? Carol Burnett holds it together and she's eloquent and handles the whole thing as well as anyone could ever do. You do see the gears in her head working as Jerry asks her questions that ultimately wants to answer.
I couldn't agree more. This show should've been a slam dunk, but as you said, Jerry made everything about himself. The manic exchanges between Lewis and Callas were often unfunny and seemingly wedged in as time fillers. Metromedia took a calculated risk and lost big time, with an artist who insisted on perfection and was extremely impatient with mediocrity, failing miserably by not adhering to those virtues. I'm pretty sure Jerry though he could just trot out there and have himself a hit based on his past performances.
please put more lewis on the internet.!!!!
No one is stopping you from "putting more Jerry Lewis on the Internet".
Get to work on locating , procuring, and finally, uploading the footage.
njpete987, so why are you watching him ???LOL if you don't like him go watch something else then and let us enjoy it! BYEEE!
I thought Jerry's interview with Carol Burnett was terrific. Reminded me a bit of Tom Snyder's style on his "Late Late Show" that followed Letterman. Jerry asked some un-talk-show questions of Carol ("This is not on the cards")- I liked that. And Joe Piscopo was a good pairing after Carol. Overall this fifth- and last- show was the best of the bunch, although the placement of the sketch was odd- usually it's in the first half hour rather than in the second half. Have to ask: what time slot in the evening was this aired across the country? 11:30 (10:30 Central!), up against The Tonight Show? Or earlier? A mishmash of styles: the Big Band orchestra, variety-show audience monologue, cerebral celebrity iv, and burlesque humor. The show's format would need some major tweaking (Charlie Callas' schtick wears extremely thin) in order for it to survive. And Jerry might run out of "pals" to interview. Glad to have found these!
The first 20 seconds of this:
No Starsky and Hutch, ok?
1930s opening night searchlights
Dead people clapping
Happy navy people?
People running behind a car from the 1930's
A goat
The space shuttle
A cannon firing at a rodeo
It can't get any better...oh dear...Jimmy Stewart imitation...
A very good show every one
Professor Julius Ferrous Kelp is forever!!!!
This series was put on by Metromedia as a one week replacement for the cancelled "Thicke OF The Night".
Jerry's show was supposed to be the permanent replacement for Thicke's show. But the ratings were so bad that Starsky and Hutch returned to it's original time slot
God bless " professor Julius. F. Kelp. ...he is " hell ariously funny..,!!!!!! He lives in my soul !!!!!
a LOVE you frontera chile

How do you find these videos they are all amazing
Shanell13 Through lots of searching the internet and also buying a lot of rare footage from sellers. I also run the Donazify channel which has a lot of Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis stuff as well. :)
Yes I have some already on the donazify channel, but I do have more to upload soon. I have a lot of Jerry Lewis stuff, which I haven't gotten to yet. For some reason most Jerry Lewis Show full episodes in circulation have spanish/portuguese subtitles. Even the ones I have that he didn't post. There was one which doesn't have subtitles, and was one that he had posted, but I'll still upload it, since it's different without the subtitles. I'll upload the more complete versions of the episodes that were cut off too, like the Barbara Eden episode. :)
Haha yeah that's where I got it for sure! And yeah in their earlier episodes they didn't mention MDA. I don't think they were involved yet.
wow, cool thanks for your dedication. I am about the same age as his youngest daughter so i would have never know of jerry or dean if it weren't for you and the others on youtube. keep up the good work thanks for everything!!
Jerry Lewis was the best when he done perfessior kelp on the nutty perfessior
never knew of this. Was this national? I've always been a fan. I cant imagine not watching this in it's day. but boy , is this terrible.
Don't even think I remember this show. Of course, it was only on for a week and didn't get any ratings. It is kind of like Jerry Langford come to life.
Había leído q este programa fue malisimo, y se quedaron cortos jaja
Charlie callas is completely crazy and made no since at all. Please post more of these shows
I understand why this didn't go anywhere. Jerry was too cerebral. The questions were interesting but for a late night or evening talk show it was too much.
Julius F Kelp for president...!!!!!!!!
How did this show fail! Funny stuff. Charlie Callas is great. Funny every time!
It really seemed like Carol wanted some Piscopo....
Have no recollection of this show whatsoever!
Interesting he has Carol Burnett as a guest when, years later, he makes a point of telling the world how much he dislikes female comedians.
He loved many female comedian throughout the years. He just wanted to stir up trouble by saying that make headlines. Here he is talking about Carol Burnett: ua-cam.com/video/JtfOcO9vj0c/v-deo.html
He loved Carol; he loved Fanny Brice he didn't appreciate what he called 'vulgar' comediennes like Sarah Silverman.
Omg...this is horrible.
Contrived. Pretentious. Labored. Off.
This shows me that succeeding as a talk show host is a very tough challenge. It takes a special blend of intelligence, wit, sense of humor, and ability to relate to a huge variety of guests. The best hosts - David Letterman is my particular favorite - seem to born specifically for. You can't teach it. I still love watching Jerry. He was an innovative, unique, courageous, versatile entertainer.
