He took on responsibility for others who never really appreciated it, thus contributing to his feeling of not being enough or giving enough, plus always having to be strong. Otherwise anything less is a weakness, a luxury he could not afford to show. So at the end it seems he took the easy way out, to die with no prospect of being brought back! He has lost so much already and now life was perilous, he knew finally Sam would be fine.
i actually thought the ending was quite good for his character i mean he had fought all his life and finally found piece he and sam got out of death so many times it seemed only fitting that one of them die in the finale and considering all dean wanted was for sam to finally have a normal life so he found peace while also knowing sam got to live freely then they both found eachother again, it all kinda fit in the end while it was sad it definitely made sense

He fought for freedom, he fought for peace. That was the whole point right? In the beginning of that same episode, he said that they have to keep living so the sacrifices of the people they love wouldn't be for nothing, then 2 seconds later he dies from a nail? The problem is, he died for no reason, his death didn't serve any cause. I mean if he maybe died saving Sam, I would've agreed with you. But the fact that he died for nothing doesn't sit right with me tbh...
I respect your opinion but, the point is that he wanted to live, if he has demonstrated the opposite several (many) times but, what happened with the growth of character ? what happened with all those times he wanted to live? what happened to wanted be free from Chuck? what is the poin if he is dead? he said at the beginning of the episode that he wanted to live so that all the sacrifice would not be in vain, minutes later he dies for a nail, a character that has been suicidal but that has continued fighting, finds peace by dying? and Sam, Dean wanted a normal life for Sam ( Dean also wanted a normal life) but they know that they cannot have that life Sam said that he was not going to run away that the hunt was his life, not perfect, but he loved it and the fact that he lived that life without hunting anymore, without his brother for so long, that Dean accepted that he was dying so fast and that Sam did not call the ambulance, that he did not ask Dean to shut up and fight is out of character

Dean's death was an unfortunate set of circumstances but Sam appearing to do nothing still rankles every-time I re-watch this scene. Dean had so much more to give, life to live. Sadder still was his room, left the way it was like he was returning home to tidy up properly....you know what I mean. Such a waste, so much potential.

My favorite character ever. I relate to him so much. All he ever did was sacrifice himself for the people he loved, for people he didn't even know, he always put his life on the line. He was finally free and he deserved so much better. He deserved a life after everything he did, after all the lives he saved, he deserved one of his own. He never put himself first. I mean he always felt like ppl around him get hurt and die, he always felt guilty for the loss and the pain and basically everything in between, he blamed himself for everything that went wrong and he sees himself as a killer and a torturer especially after hell. Overall, he never felt like he was a 'good' person. There's also the fact that his father was never happy with him, he was so hard on him (while he was a lot nicer to Sam) and he felt like he wasn't good enough to satisfy his dad which was something so important to him growing up. Sam and Dean fought for free will their whole lives. But nothing comes without a price. Free will doesnt mean immortality. He died knowing he wasnt a character in some grand story. His death was natural, a fighter's death, not some sacrifice to fit Chuck's story. Jack said he would be hands off, guess thats why he didnt bring back Dean. And Dean was too selfless and caring to stop saving people. So even if Jack brought him back, Dean would die on a hunt, just sooner or later. Instead Jack brought Cas back, because Cas made a deal to save Jack and paid it off, he wasnt actually dead. Then he fixed heaven so that when finally the Winchesters got there, they would have the peace they deserve.

This compiled of scenes was so perfectly made!!! You did an incredible job! 😭❤❤ It made me emotional (again) seeing his death scene. Dean suffered a lot in life... he only had little and brief moments of joy. He had so many losses. As much as I was really saddened by his death in the final episode, I truly believe that his happiness wasn't here on Earth, because now in Heaven he can finally be at peace and around the people he loves, be with his parents, his family... something he has always wanted and never been able to do since he was a kid. So, despite these mixed feelings, Dean had a happy ending ❤

It's pretty early in the morning here an I came across this video on my youtube home. I've tried so hard ignoring all of the edits including that damned barn scene because it hurts me how it all endend for Dean and even on this one, I Didn't look at that and lowered the volume. I love this song and I love your edit. Also the part with the punches and the beats of the song!! Wow!! I think that it is why I don't accept this ending for Dean's journey. Not the death, I was fine with it until moments before 15x19 aired... but watching them defeating Chuck I was like 'ok, they didn't die now. They're safe. They're free.' And then 15x20 happened and it shattered me because on HOW it all wrapped up. It was pretty traumatizing and shocking..

Dean Winchester will always be the best character on supernatural and I used to love the show but that finale was to much and I did not like it at all. After all the crap that dean went through for him to go out like that was just wrong. I mean at least Sam died of old age and lived his life why couldn't dean live at least a bit longer? It made me emotional (again) seeing his death scene.
Dean suffered a lot in life... he only had little and brief moments of joy.
He had so many losses.
As much as I was really saddened by his death in the final episode, I truly believe that his happiness wasn't here on Earth, because now in Heaven he can finally be at peace and around the people he loves, be with his parents, his family... something he has always wanted and never been able to do since he was a kid.
So, despite these mixed feelings, Dean had a happy ending ❤

One of the most complicated characters I have ever watched.
It's pretty early in the morning here an I came across this video on my youtube home. I've tried so hard ignoring all of the edits including that damned barn scene because it hurts me how it all endend for Dean and even on this one, I Didn't look at that and lowered the volume.

I think that it is why I don't accept this ending for Dean's journey. Not the death, I was fine with it until moments before 15x19 aired... but watching them defeating Chuck I was like 'ok, they didn't die now. They're safe. They're free.' And then 15x20 happened and it shattered me because on HOW it all wrapped up. It was pretty traumatizing and shocking..

Jack: *shows him clips of SPN family members talking about how touched and saved they were by Supernatural, especially Dean's plight and how much they wished they could help him and tell him how loved he was/is.* You saved lives even in a world where you were just a fictional character. What you have to show for it all is a vast family that is spread across the multiverse. You've always been loved. Even when you lost a battle, you were helping someone win their own war....

Dean Winchester will always be the best character on supernatural and I used to love the show but that finale was to much and I did not like it at all. After all the crap that dean went through for him to go out like that was just wrong. I mean at least Sam died of old age and lived his life why couldn't dean live at least a bit longer? I will pretend that awful finale doesn't exist. At least we have fan fiction where dean Winchester will never die :)
