Grew up in a small village surrounded by books, always so in love with romance, princes and princesses.... I could actually see her having a musical number like this, possibly with the lion singing to her as a "fairy godmother". Her situation's so tragic and it's so much worse when you take into account how it's outright stated- albeit in an easy to miss way- that lifespan differences were created by the ancients wishing to the demon for "their people" to live for 1000 years. Fucked up and evil how everyone treats her like her wish itself is unreasonable when it's exactly what already happened but without the giant rift between long and short lifespans and her caught in the middle.

I love the effects of the layered panels!! I've never seen anything quite like it. It recontextualizes each scene with each panel. It's so cool! Great animatic!
Not sure if this is a commonly held idea, but it makes me so sad how Marcille's wish is so selfless in a way, but comes from a self-centered place as well. I don't say that to disparage her, how could you blame her? Losing her father, losing Falin, the weight of those around her with much shorter lives cutting short the memories she could make with them, and carrying that weight with her each and every day, the risk of losing her loved ones getting bigger and bigger the deeper and deeper they go in the dungeon. That wish of hers coming from a deeply held and genuine desire, along with coming from fear and a wounded heart. Eugh you capture it so well here. Man, that last shot is so hauntingly beautiful and bittersweet. The version of her that has the power to make that dream a reality, comforting or encouraging a younger Marcille and telling her she can finally do it. But not being fully aware that being in this state is what drives her dear friends away, if not by their own volition then by Marcille self-isolating "for their own good." It's a terribly tragic thing, that when she has the capacity to bring everyone together in a sense, is the same time that she is most alone. No bigger comment, but I enjoy how you paralleled the scene at 0:34, 1:11, and then sort of invert it at the very end. The hope, the feeling of being alone, creating a dreamscape-esque scene, the fear of potential loss, the anguish at the losses that already are, the escape from it all. Marcille being a character who, for better and for worse, is very in tune with her inner-child who loves tales of whimsy and romance and princes and princesses, like in the side story where she goes to the theatre with Falin. The song coming from a literal princess movie, which lends to the sort of old-timey and fairy tale like nature of the piece. It all comes together so spectacularly well. "In dreams, you will lose your heartache." I'm going to scream. In the context of Dungeon Meshi, it takes on a new meaning or at least interpretation with how the Winged Lion can make a fantasy land for someone and make their wildest dreams come true, and often leaving the dungeon lord so terribly alone if left unchecked. At the cost of their deepest desires. Their hunger. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH this is so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so good. Got choked up again while typing this, it's hard to put into words just how phenomenal this is. Thank you very much this is incredible.
