I was friends with a Dominican woman who looked black but was adamant about not being black and was annoyed when black Americans tried to group her with them. For her, black Americans have a different culture, history and language so it didn’t make sense for Dominicans to be grouped with them based on skin color. For her, black Americans are an entirely different group.
Also, a lot of black Americans want black immigrants to be grateful to them for the Civil Rights Movement and want to recruit them to be involved in their racial grievances and see race relations the way they do; she also didn’t want to be involved in this racial grievance movement either.

We're *Hispanic,* which is an ethnic subgroup within the Latino race. And before you say it, Europe and America refuse to consider Latinos a race of peoples. However, *we* consider it a race in latinoamérica..

yeah, black people from anywhere else grow resentful towards black Americans. Not just because black Americans treat them as inferior or because they make fun of them, that is more of an annoyance for them.
The major reason why is because when they ask black Americans why they are in the position they are in, black Americans say it's because the U.S. is racist and holds them down, and for telling them they won't succeed because they are black. Basically for trying to make them think and act the way they do.
Black people from abroad absolutely hate that, they hate hearing that and they hate being told they won't succeed either because they are black. It's usually why black people from abroad, well at least in years past not so much the new ones coming here for free stuff, were business owners and doctors.

She could be delineating between phenotype and what has become American Black Culture (which has been exported to the UK and other countries through media 'trend'). This 'culture' is what you guys spend much of your time complaining about. There is a huge difference between the cultures of Kenya and Jamaica, for example, 3 generations ago, from American Black Culture today. I'm pretty sure she's referring to culture, or, as it is in political vernacular 'Black with a capital B'.

@user-np1mt5pq4u this video is about dominicans so obviously they will know we're they're from before they ask that question. obviously you ask if they have african ancestry if you know we're their from. Why you you go up to someone and ask " do you have african ancestry 😂 we already know about the Spanish and native ancestry in dominicans. This is for people who want to know if they have african ancestry. I know most dominicans are mixed with all three so I wouldn't ask about their african ancestry. This is for people who want to hear it from their mouth. That would be the best way to ask them instead of are you black, because most are a mixture of all three, so if you wanna know just ask about the african ancestry, not are you black because many represent the Spanish, native, and african heritage.

Whenever Americans say "Black," they're never talking about Africans. They're almost certainly talking about *Black Americans.* I've seen these interactions with Black Americans vs Africans, West Indians, and even Haitians. Even Black Americans consider themselves different, and rightly so. Race can be categorized in a very broad manner. Ethnicity is far more specific, which will help you identify peoples far better than the melanin content of one's skin.
I'm an ethnic Dominican (U.S born, Dominican citizen by birthright). Apparently, I'm more mestizo than mulatto if we go by physical appearance, but that doesn't mean i don't have mulatto ancestry. We're quite mixed.
Fun fact: a lot of Dominicans who spend winters in the States won't be as dark as they are in DR since they wouldn't be in the sun all the time. Half my family was surprised to see how light their skin color was when they spent winters in NY.

Folks, come on. There is a huge difference in culture, language, upbring, class, and demographic. Dominicans have a mixed cultures: Spanish, Native Indian, African, and some European. They are also from an Island half Haiti and Dominican Republic. Both areas were colonized by Spain and France.

    • @rheddhawkmariea5875
      @rheddhawkmariea5875 4 місяці тому

No! The Dominicans (some) are an admixture of Spaniards (Tawny-complexioned=dark-skinned), and the original Indians that are now being referred to as "African Americans." The whole Island was known as Quisqueya (eastern part) and Ayiti.
True, they were colonized by the Spaniards and the French --- who were tawny looking people as well.

Black Americans have the same mixture of european, natives and African blood. Most Black Americans are British/Irish, African, and Native, instead of Spanish and Native but we have the SAME amount of African blood.

I agree with that woman, Im Puerto Rican we not black regardless of what color we are…couple videos ago ya was just talking about the culture of black ppl and they cant help it…everytime ya talk about chicago ya always talk about the black negro and the culture of black ppl intertwined, we latinos are different because we have different cultures we are not black ya wrong on this 1….also as a police officer when filling out paperwork to determine someones race theres a black box and hispanic box to check off so if their dominican you would check off hispanic not black…its like comparing a doberman and a rottweiler same color two different breeds

You have color and you have culture. As a dominican i feel closer to African roots than my black brothers in US coast to coast, having less melanin. Our food, our rhythms, our jargon.
My Nigerian friend makes fufú that tastes like my mom’s mangú. Merengue music, original to Dominicans, is more African than not.
If some of we have adopted the man’s culture, then yes - color will be the sole determining factor for rootedness.
Regardless though, this mangú is better than fast food.

Latino/Hispanic is her ethnicity/culture. “Black” is a race. I think most of them say they aren’t “black” in the US to distinguish themselves culturally
