I've seen several of your videos in the past hour, and most things in these videos I've already been implementing. Not because I knew, or because I saw it somewhere else, but because it *felt natural*. I always used em dashes for emphasis, but didn't actually know that's what it was for in the beginning. After seeing your videos, it confirmed to me that I had always been on the right path as a new writer. And your awesome videos have helped relieved some stress for me when it comes to writing. I just hope my end product results in something that's interesting to read. PROTIP: For those who write on a Mac, pressing the keys [OPTION] + [SHIFT] + [ - ] = em dash.
Patricia, thank you for your work, I enjoy your channel. I am a big fan of the “-“ in my writing but I never knew there was a difference between a hyphen and the Em dash! I’ll be putting the correct character into practice from now on 👍🏼
Love the em dash. I prefer the AP style even for fictional writing. I will say though I mostly write screenplays and white space on the page is a key consideration. Em dashes with no spaces before and after them can string a lot of black letters together - making the text less appealing to look at and read.
Amazing content! Keep up the great work!

Thanks for the MAC tip!
Fellow lover of the em dash. Great video. Thanks.
You are welcome, as always! P.

I'm delighted you're finding the channel helpful (and maybe entertaining?) 🙂

I always think that usage rules that can carry from application to application have only one real caveat: be consistent! Happy writing! P.
For window, Em Dash code is Alt + 0151
Thanks for this. My preference was to set up a CTL- so that it's only two keystrokes but the built-in one works, too!
