Hey friend! It would be nice if you would always show the model numbers and sources for your tools, like the DC Controller you show at the end, the RPM meter, etc.
Appreciate your Video walkthrough. My ego 56 self propelled doesn’t start like it used to to, it make sound like A car with dead or weak battery and sometime it just comes on itself. I checked and remove the switch on collapsible handle, I am Just trying to open the Black cover right above battery compartment to check the fuse and another switch but can’t figure out what kinda screw driver I need lol, most of screw is star shape, I am Not sure if on black cover also have start shape screw ?
Pretty cool that the components are what makes an ego great. I fly RC planes. In parts, they are very similar. There is a motor, a blade (propeller on a plane), an ECU (computer to control everything) and control mechanism (transmitter on an rc plane) no receiver because its not wireless, nor many control surfaces, so way less moving parts than an rc plane. Very simple straight forward set-up when you lay out all the parts. What makes a good RC plane, is a brushless motor (u can get more rpm with less heat and greater efficiency, they are not made equal like hand tools, they will all work, but for how long?). The ecu, some are 40A/50A/60A and so on. That is the amount of power it can accept if u will and know what to do with it. Good ones don't get super hot, and are higher than what you need, so its not constantly overworked.
Wonder if you could do a video on how to convert a small cheap lightweight gas-powered push mower into a cordless electric mower that could run on anything from 24 to 60 V not the range but one specific voltage within that range so it can run off of a common battery without having to build one
I would like to see a bypass kit to make the motor go full RPM, I don't care about battery life as my yard is small. I want the suction high all the time for bagging leaves, without any resistance the controller goes real slow to save battery life.
I started tearing one of these down and it's now on a high wheel trimmer frame. Handlebars were easy to move over w/ a few bolts and drilling some holes - problem I have is finding the right pulley for this motor. it's not 3/4" but also not 5/8" as I have a 5/8" pulley and it does not fit. It's somewhere in-between.
I live along a river and accidentally had my Ego mower roll into the river when I turned away from it for a moment. I tore it apart as best I could - not as far as you did in the video. I set up a portable heater next to the motor to blow warm air on it to dry it out. I have it like that for two days now. I haven't tried starting it yet. Any thoughts on whether there is anything else I should do before testing the mower?
@@xxycom8963 I let it dry for several days to be safe and put everything back together. it started up just fine and has been working great all summer and fall.
can I hook the 56-volt battery direct to the motor without the dc brush controller? and will it work at full speed and what will happen to the motor? thanks
You can wire it straight up to the batteries but it will give a big jolt and the motor runs at full speed the moment you flip the switch. No soft start. You will need a controller.
At 3:30 after you removed the lawnmower blade there was a silver disc with 4 holes around the motor mount. How did you remove that, does it just pull off? The video gets cut there and that part is missing. I didn’t want to just yank on it and risk damaging it.
It is. I put XT60 connectors in everything! I don't think it's being phased out. It used to be on RC toys only. I see it in a lot of things these days.
@@vuaeco no battery but I built my own battery using those xt90s. I just mounted it to my motorcycle using a 36V system lol going to upgrade to 72V next. Jehu Garcia has amazing parts for EV builds, ill be picking up a few more lawnmowers under 100 this week.
Awesome! Thank you for providing me with part of the the information I was looking for. If you could please determine the torque value of that motor with the 60 volts.
I have a cheap one - ego I bought (LM2100) for under $100 at lowes on clearance w/o battery as a backup. I have an ego 7.5 battery from my backpack blower already and a self-propelled ego mower (which I really like). I have a high wheel trimmer (craftsman) where the engine seized after 8 years of use (I worked it hard on our 40+ acres). I want to take the guts of the LM2100 (e.g. motor, housing, handles) and put it on the high wheel trimmer and make it useful again. I bought another newer craftsman high wheel trimmer but the plastic carbs on the new ones are junk and it won't run right seasonally. New carb approved mowers are junk. Thoughts?
I am guessing u r an electrical engineer. When u get that motor on a go cart, that thing will lite your hair on fire. Nice to c u fire up that electric impact. That’s a new Kobalt. I have the older 1/2 drive with a 4 amp battery. Not as powerful as the Milwaukee, but I think it’s in the ballpark. Was that the 3/8’s model?
Mine is just a regular XTR 1/4 hex impact. I just use hex to 3/8 adapter. It loses some torque but still enough to remove lug nuts from trucks and vans.
Using the _trusty_ Harbor Freight voltmeter I see. The one that is "free" with purchase or else $4.99. Works great, depending on what you hit it on to get a reading. 😂 🤣

Awesome, weell explained video! I just pulled my apart, same model but the motor is different to yours .it looked like a brushless motor.
Great video.
I think you should do a max voltage video.
You will receive millions of views if titled/ correctly

Also what makes them weak.
A $600 mower that dies after 5 mows is crap.

I know it’s a year later, but I just bought two motors sold as 5/8” and they measured 17mm. My 5/8l pulleys were just barely too small.

I LOVE your accent!
Oh damn that would be a good motor for an ebike
Great video, thank you
Can you run that motor with the drill and see what the output voltage is I'm thinking of making a windmill generator out of a ego product. Thanks
Whats the name of that dc brushed controller?
Would you happen to know what shaft on the motor is? I’m looking for a sprocket that would fit on this motor
Just asking lol what is the cost of a replacement motor

What's the horsepower rating on those? Is it 6.5 horsepower like the small engine in a gas lawnmower?

Put it on an outboard engine

Its impossible to use a ebike controller 48v-72v with that motor ?

I like this guy..and his voice
Why not leave the entire motor/battery assembly together so you can just pop the whole thing onto another mower deck or go cart, ect
I thought ego had brushless motors in their mowers. This one was brushed?!!
First Gen is brushed the newer models are brushless
There are 3 models that are brushed. They still sell 2 models in my area.
Crazy you find these for under 100 bucks now lol
Why did u take it apart? Did it not work?
YOU SHOULD DO A SEGMENT ON DUMPSTER DIVING. WHERE TO LOOK ETC. DON'T FORGET TO TRAIN THOSE KIDS ON HOW TO SCROUNGE----SO YOU CAN LEAVE A LEGACY.
"Scrounge"! :D
You are running the motor the wrong direction! The brushes are screaming because of that!
So much easier to just change a spark plug.
