I can’t choose and you just can’t make me. Everything sounded fantastic brother. I’m subbing up for more. Wish you were my neighbor here in Shreveport. ✊🏻👍🏻
The Music Man is the brightest of all, no wonder guitar players hate us. But That Alembic is so clean, it's amazing! And the Smith is all about that funk, with that nasty edge. Back in the old days, you could hang out in the music store and just play everything with no sideways looks from the counter guys. These days, they seem like guitar guys with attitudes, waiting for that big break or something. Thanks Johnny that was a lot fun bro!
All those basses sounded awesome. I think the 2nd bass I liked the most. Sounds very similar to my Spector Euro 4 I just use a little bit of distortion. The Olympic bass I think it’s called was the one I dug the most. Awesome tone I love the body and headstock. Also the gentlemen playing was an excellent bassist. I almost bailed with the camera adjustments…But it was worth sticking around. CHEERS!
Every since I saw Rodney (Skeet) from Parliament Funkadelic and of course Stanley Clarke with that Alembic, I've been hooked! Yours sounds incredible! I would love to have one some day. Thanks for the info Bruh. Blessings to you and yours.
Those Amps are ROARING!!! I'm listening through a little Bluetooth speaker and The "Bottom" of those basses is making it vibrate on the shelf and it isn't even turned all the way up! WOOOOOOOOOOO!!! 🎸🎶🎶🎶
Sweet nice always like your videos and playing ligo Etc im a drummer grew up with great bass players back east Jersey phil NY out west LA Ohio i play a little but left handed need to get it proper never reversed the strings want to lol thks love all the sounds and your playing and knowledge
I am left-handed . When I was starting out the owner of a small music store and professional horn player told me to seriously consider playing right handed . He said you will have an extremely limited supply of instruments available . Plus my left hand for fretting is stronger than my right hand . I switched and never looked back . Steve Morse , the guitar player , is left handed and plays righty .
I like the SWR and Eden combo with the Smith and Alembic. I like the Musicman with the other Ampeg on the far left. But like you said they are so heavy.... I use a Phil Jones cab now with a Genz Benz 9.0 shuttle head, small but got a lot of bottom . It's got 8 five inch speakers.
Love ya man always providing awesome content bassically, good insite and different perspective on life you rule dude ! Thank you love youre outfits as always fly as hell lol
All 3 basses and amps are Fire!!! I have a great idea for you for your channel. Have you thought about doing a bass giveaway??? You would multiply your viewership by ten! Blessings my brother
I wonder what that enclosure on the right is tuned to…has to be higher based off size and port size, the low you hear is prolly harmonics off the low B…GOOD SHIT THO just me being a dork
The Smith kills'em both, on the Mark Bass and David Eden. But it's a close last place when matched with the GK. Like you said before, " learn your equipment".
That was about the most fun I've had watching a video ever. If I lived anywhere near this guy, I'd be visiting him all the time. Really enjoyed that! He's just way too much fun and hella bass player to boot! Bobby Vega is a lot like that too. Makes you just want to hang around with them to see what they do/say/play next.
You need to check out the new Hartke cabinets. Especially the HD112 which can be switched for 8ohms to 4ohms. Its a great low cabinet. I like the tone of that cabinet better than my epifani 4 ten cabinet.
The Alembic sounds better than the others. I have owned a Ken Smith 1996 BTG5 custom and a 1996 Musicman Stingray 4 string. I also owned an Alembic 4 string Essence 1995.
The Mark through the Eden 4x10. I think thats a winner. Me, lifelong SM400 through the OLD SWR 4x10 with 2x10 (Eden speakers) stacked on top. The GK never sounded that great to me. Next time throw in an Ampeg flip top and an SVT on the fridge. Also throw in some vintage Fender P and J bases. Do it. I want to hear it. Thanks, great content.
It always comes around to that StingRay! Leo Fender made a generous contribution to musicians all over the spectrum but when God handed out ears for bass, Leo must have been first in line! Don't get me wrong though, that Alembic is still as strong to this very day. It's so very easy to see why Stanley Clarke and John Entwhistle were so attached to them! Barring those gentlemen, the quality of the Alembic alone gave a lot of street cred to some very mediocre bassists. That's not easy to do. Now regarding that GK. It sounded about like I remember it. I was a working class Ampeg V4-B man most of my bass playing life and the GK was my first non-tube bass amp. The V4 was heavier than the 4x12 cab I was playing it through and I needed to make a change. I chose the GK because it had that Ampeg type range. So I find myself comparing it to the older stuff more than any of the others. No offense to GK, but I think they tried to voice it like the older stuff, were SWR and others were then finding their own voices. It's just my opinion, but I place it more as the generation gap amp of the class. But if you hear a difference after you clean it up, please post another video so we can hear the difference. Thanks for your contributions in keeping the bass community strong! You and that Ken Smith are a couple of beasts! Hold it down bro!
Johnny ' when you say everything on the SWR is at 9.30..? are you using Both channels with Six Bands of parametric' or a Single Channel with three.. Frequency's @ 9.00 o'clock & the Boost's maxed..??? ❤
Dig the mods on your Sterling ray. How do you dig the second pickup position? It looks a bit lower then a typical HH layout. Also... Do you think modding a Sterling with high end PU's and Preamp is as good or better than a US Stingray? I ponder getting another US ray but am not eager to part with $2k lol.
@@LONGCASTLE777 Thanks Johnny! I'll have to check one out next time I'm at a shop. I modded Squier Jaguar bass a couple years ago that I really dig. Threw some Duncan QP's in it and ditched the awful active pre for a passive wiring with quality pots. I also repainted it, added new blacked out hardware, rounded the fret board edges added ultralight tuners, etc. Fun project and love the results. Sounds and plays sooooo much better. Thinking I may do the same thing with a Sterling now.
Your Alembic sounds so good it's beautiful like a sunset over a waterfall and it didn't matter which amp you used. Thanks for the presentation Johnny.
Thank u
Reminiscent of Larry Graham, Thank you ! Sounds great!
Thanks for droppin the knowledge constantly, and just being honest, awesome and wholesomely fun.
Thank you for this great video! I like them all. I could rock any of those bass guitars through any of those amps and have a great gig.
Johnny, you always make me laugh and I love your playing & enthusiasm!
Mr. Long,
This was fascinating. You are entertaining as always. I love your videos, and i like this format a lot. Thanks
I can’t choose and you just can’t make me. Everything sounded fantastic brother. I’m subbing up for more. Wish you were my neighbor here in Shreveport. ✊🏻👍🏻
IN MY OPINION THE BASSES ARE ALL SUPER HOT!!!!
THE SWR AMP AND EDEN CABINET Complimented All Of The Basses.
The Music Man is the brightest of all, no wonder guitar players hate us. But That Alembic is so clean, it's amazing! And the Smith is all about that funk, with that nasty edge. Funky E is a sign of them old school bassists....rare and unique 💥

WOOOOOOOOOOO!!! 🎸🎶🎶🎶
All three sound great!
I love your videos you sound great. Your attitude is the best!
Thanks for giving us new players some Bassic Knowledge. This was amazing!!!
This is great stuff!!! You make it look so easy. I have always tried to play slap bass but with no much luck. Wish I could master that level of skill!
Just practice don't give up
Where you been bruh???? I been looking for you on UA-cam for a year! Glad your back!!! God bless maybe it was me couldn’t find you.
Nice presentation. That music man sounds so sweet.
Maaaaaan oh maaaan!!!!!! I'm pre-sold montrose MN Eden all day. I own a wt550, wt800, Dxlt 210 & 410. Every time they come through!
Johnny is a great guy and a killer player. One of the best bass players on UA-cam, no doubt.
Thank u soooooooo much

Johnny keep playin bro!! Old school funk!! New kids don't know about the funk!!
Jaco Pastorius had that warm sound. The Eden Rig for church definitely.
I have a SM900 that was in one the 1st lots made from Early 1990's. The fan went out ' going to get it fixed one day.
Thx about the note about the Phil Jones... think I'll try that next.
I have the Ampeg PB-210 (like the 2x12" centre one of yours). 400w, 4 ohm & Neo speakers ... very light
This man can make any set up sound criminal! Dayummm
Awesome! Your Bass Guitars sound so good. And your playing is awesome. Thank you!
The Alembic one sounds so great 🥰 and you play it great.
I like this guy! Cheers Johnny!
Tenho um Sting Ray 5 ano 1994. Mas fiquei encantado com o som do Alembic.
I'm still using Ken Smith, SWR, Eden, Art NightBass SE
❤️😍their all so beautiful brother Johnny!! That Alembic tho! And your custom stingray! 🤤 🤤 could you make a video showing us how to clean the amps?
My my my!!!! You a Baaaaadddd man!!!!

Nice looking Ken Smith Bass.
I wonder what that enclosure on the right is tuned to…has to be higher based off size and port size, the low you hear is prolly harmonics off the low B…GOOD SHIT THO just me being a dork
Old school Ampeg still kicking and that’s not even an SVT. Love that Smith.

Man they all sound good to me… that’s like asking “which child is your favorite” thump on brother!
Thanks. you & your Queen are special to us too. bye Hootie , until next time.
Love you Brother!
This is really great too watch
That first button is cool. A muffled good sound.
Wow I think that GK Amp plays good for it's age.
Ken Smith with Maple fretboard sounds 🔥
If you are close to Gainesville I have a 1967 Ampeg BT15 Portaflex, and a First Run of SWR Workingman15 you could play through
Yessssssssssssss
@@LONGCASTLE777 You know Bo Diddley's daughter still lives down here
Hey Johnny have you ever played one of those old Ampeg bases with the upright headstock they were very cool. stay strong and healthy young man.
Those Ampeg 12's are sweet.
Sounds Good Sir.
That musicman looks like a ray 24 with an extra pickup added,, can you tell me is that the original ceramic pick up?
My ears haven't found a better combo than an Eden 4x10 top with a 2x15 bottom bi amped. My back thinks the neodymium cabinets are the best.
Great Job !!
Brother you got some nice equipment there 😎👍
The Alembic sounds better than the others. I have owned a Ken Smith 1996 BTG5 custom and a 1996 Musicman Stingray 4 string. I also owned an Alembic 4 string Essence 1995.
The distortion is from the pickups.
Man you're awesome 4sho
Sounding killer bruh. That Alembic tho’
What is a warm - warm ???
I don't know! 😂
I love my old gear!
Bro, keep thumpin MAN!!!!!
Magnifico.💰💰💰💰💰💰

Agreed. The Eden sounds so good. Probably weighs 90 lb though...
Bravo 👏👏👏
New basses sometimes demand new amps.
I dig 150° just watch those basses they get hot 😁
I'm going home and definitely practicing
Love the Eden amp the best
I'd go with the Olympic and the first amp with the Eden 4x10..
I'll take a Music Man Bass any day of the week 🤘🏿

Every bass that you play sounds great! Is the MM the least expensive with the modifications?
Johnny ' when you say everything on the SWR is at 9.30..? are you using Both channels with Six Bands of parametric' or a Single Channel with three.. Frequency's @ 9.00 o'clock & the Boost's maxed..??? ❤
Only one channel
This man needs a bath--way too funky!!!
The second bass have turbo sound.

I feeeeeel...the sterling with the right pickup & preamp will supply your need..they are well built and play extremely well....

Who remembers Mother's Finest!?
My favorite...wyzard
I have played Ibanez, Schecter, Ampeg, Yamaha, Dean, Alvarez, and Kramer. Alembic is the best, hands down.
dude got all those basses sound clean
Wow! That Alembic...
I like clean warm.
you're a rockstar
You no as a music man my self I think those base sound pretty good yes there is some sound difrent but that can improve
What strings you had on each bass?
How about muting the amp before yanking out the cord?!?
Johnny rocks! Good question…Or pulling the far side first. I blew a tweeter limiter bulb like that, long ago.
The Alembic has more of a velvet sound.
❤❤❤
