Been going to Holy Island since the mid 1980's and always have respected the tides. The best thing of all about the tides though is when you stay on the Island when the tide is closing and everyone else leaves. The peace and quiet of the Island when the tide is in is pure heaven.❤
We did that at the end of St Oswald's way. Stayed in the pub after walking across the Pilgrim's Way. One of the most magical nights of my life. We sat out listening to the cries of the seals.

A friend of mine once told me that he'd seen a car get swept away by the strong tidal current; his wife then pointed out that the reason he was there to see it was that he'd only just made it himself!
Calm down guys, its gonna be ok. Its called an underbody car wash. Cleans the salt right off. You dont have to let your car rot. Everything will be fine. Goodness sakes people.
This video is a setup. The causeway is not flooding, the tide is going out which is why there is a queue of traffic waiting to cross. Several people have pointed out the dangers of ignoring the crossing time schedules, I've seen many ignore that and their car ruined as a result. I used to live up the road in Berwick.
@@bcgraham3512My god you people are so cynical, you should be appreciating the guys filming technique instead of pointing the finger......unbelievable.
Looks to me like he timed it to perfection and maintained a sensible speed/bow wave. In practice, the lower front bumper was as high as the water got. Hopefully it rained shortly thereafter and the cars underside was washed cleaned.
Mercedes dealer told me the most expensive repair their shop ever had was customer who drove too fast through water (that was too deep). Engine inhaled water, water is not compressible, engine was severely damaged. $35,000 to repair. That was 20 years ago so of course would be even more expensive today.
Some of those Mercs can float quite well for a short period if the sea is not too rough. Perhaps 5 minutes if you're lucky. Make sure your mobile is charged and you have the number of the Coastguard, RNLI etc to hand. On the other hand you could avoid putting yourself and the emergency services at risk, but that's days gone by. :) :)
Many years ago, about 40 I think, me and my lass tried to get off the island as the tide started coming in. We got about halfway to the little hut and the water had reached the bike's axles. Then, the engine cut out. We turned around and were just about able to push back to shore. At one point, I looked back and she'd disappeared over the edge. Luckily, she re-emerged and we made it. One of the most stupid things I've ever done. The tide comes in very quickly.
At approximately 1:57 to 1: 59 just forward and to the right of the vehicle, it appears that a person or animal kicks off from the road. Or is that just water flow that appears to be something swimming?
@@GeordieRascal It actually looked like a person but I am fairly certain the current is way too strong for a person to be swimming in. Having grown up in Los Angeles, I thought of a seal or a dolphin, but I wasn't sure if dolphins are plentiful in UK. Memories of being in a friend's six year old Ford Cortina MK 3 that did the (rather less wet) Causeway many years back. It got across OK but was written off by corrosion a few months later at the MOT. Seawater and 1970s cars was never a good mix.
There are a lot of silly comments here about how that car is destroyed and now worthless etc. A ten minute drive the next time it rains will wash all the salt off and the car will be just fine.
A foolish thing to attempt but at least he drove correctly at a constant speed and not to fast and probably higher than normal engine revs so as not to end up with a wave coming back and flooding his electrics. He's no doubt done it before.
I have a Mercedes and it makes you think you’re a smarter and wiser driver with safety as the main priority. Conversely it brings out the worst in you which is arrogance and stupidity
That music is insufferable!
I like it because it's so annoying, bit like my neighbours' cat who marches in and bosses me around !
I didnt notice due to the horrible noise in the background💩

It reminds me of one of the "Dizzy" games I used to play on my Amiga.

that car's going to rust quickly, some people don't realise salt water is deadly on cars and land rovers, turns chassis in to ice cream wafers.
I doubt it's much worse than driving any distance in constant salt spray all winter.
The main thing is properly wash it off ASAP
My point exactly.

Question is, if you're dumb enough to ignore the tide tables and chance a crossing then are you smart enough to get the car washed afterwards?
So no they probably didn't get it washed off

The driver was clearly intoxicated, whether that be drink or drugs im not sure
