Demi wrote “Anyone” four days before she suffered an overdose in 2018. She told a reporter “I wish I could go back in time and help that version of myself,”. This was her first time on stage since then. This performance was the same day Kobe Bryant's helicopter crashed killing him, one of his daughters and 7 other people including another parent and child. He was a very beloved member of the LA community so this also made it hard. I'm not even a sports fan and I was shocked. I can't imagine what it was like to live in the community where he was so active.
Douglas Campbell Demi was a big fan of him too, Kobe and his daughters went to Demi’s 2017 tour and hung out with her backstage so she knew them personally
This was truly a cry for help. Having recorded this song 4 days before she overdosed and her first live performance since, it was very emotional! Beautiful!
Watching Beth's empathy for an artist baring their soul for their music is a unique thing. Just show's her complete adoration and appreciation for the craft of singing. Organically beautiful.
This was the first performance I seen of hers as well as heard of her. I fell in love instantly!! Watched this performance over and over plus many more. She is amazing and her voice is incredible. Team Demi.
I’ve never really been a fan of pop music or Demi as an artist... but gained a whole lot of respect and empathy for her based on this performance. This is the type of thing that resonates and lasts. Hopefully she can stay in a positive track in her life and continue to use music as a healthy outlet for herself and for others who listen to it.
I don’t respect her for almost dying, stooge. I respect artists who have a life experience or vulnerable moment that is extremely personal and painful and then share it with the world. Baring their soul. It takes great strength and courage to share that. Certainly much more meaningful and impactful than most of the bubble gum clown show that fills pop charts.
And before you try to dismiss my opinion with passive aggressive sarcasm, addiction and self destruction courses through my family. I’ve been impacted by relatives trying to commit suicide. I’ve been impacted by family members overdosing. I’ve been through picking up the pieces. So yeah, it might resonate with me more than others that she’s picking herself up. Not only helping herself, but reaching and helping others just by being brave enough to share her experience. Especially one that a lot of artists who go through similar things, hide from it, are too embarrassed by the events and just try to seeep it under the rug.
I was waiting with bated breath for your reaction, as you are one of the few vocal coaches that appreciates conveying emotions, just as much as the technical side of it and as usual you did not disappoint. 😉
Beth tends to actually provide much more technical input about how the singers produce the vocals that they do. She seemed more focused on the emotion of this particular performance. Definitely check out more of her videos.
Demi became a really great singer and I REALLY hope she will be ok and get rid of all her demons. She deserves wonderful things. She’s such a Sunshine ☺️
Another great review by Beth again! Glad to hear you say that if emotionally tied to the song should allowed a little leeway if somethings a little off.
From what I've read, Demi wrote this only a few days before her overdose in 2018. She hadnt performed it for anyone prior to this night. Having been in that space a few times, this video hits me hard

She cannot contain her emotion at that particular part you can hear it in her very unassured intro... but which she encountered the next try... the song is such a powerful song! Speaks about more of her...
Glad you finally got to this one, though you're relatively late. At least it wasn't months later. And you were able to feel the emotions that I feel too many reactors didn't, so kudos to you!
This moving performance was a literal cry for help. Which is why she was so emotional. She is begging for someone (anyone) to be there for her. She overdosed and almost died 4 days after this performance
I would love to hear what you make of Diamanda Galas, maybe either her version of Gloomy Sunday, or The Thrill is Gone... Her or Anna Von Hauswolff... Many thanks!
Sorry my english suck, I am from Costa Rica. But I need to recommend to Mercedes Sosa, all its repertoire, especially 'GRACIAS A LA VIDA', her letters are beautifull and it is my favorite!!!
Great reaction!!!! You will love her Kline performance of her song Father. She wrote it for her dad and the lyrics are super emotional and great voice technique. This was a UA-cam special I think. You will not regret it :))))
Beth, i really want you to react to 'MISIA's song at Singer 2020 show. I think the song's title is 'i miss you always'. It's a Japanese song but it's definitely worth listening to. I hope you enjoyed it.
Thanks for reacting to this, Beth! Your face was like mine the entire time I watch and rewatch it... So brave, so powerful, so fragile. Thank God she is still with us and sharing this. This is your best performance Demi, because it wasn't one. It was just us seeing you. Thank you.
Please react to Bill Miller - all along the watchtower. It combines an amazing mix of rock and Native American. I would love to see your thoughts on Native American singing.
Please react to Claudia Emmanuella Santoso on the Voice Germany singing Never Enough from The Greatest Showman. Spoiler alert - the audience liked her performance so much they chanted for an encore. So she sings the song twice. It's interesting to see the slightly different choices she makes in her phrasing in the two performnces.
I'm really glad to see her back to performing again. I didn't want to see her O.D. get the best of her and keep her from coming back. I wish the best for her and I hope she can stay off that stuff for good.
This video is a showcase and by copyright you cannot put the original video so I guess they had this version a little bit different to be able, or simply she just want to watch the showcase.... who knows, right?
Soy metalero, pero tengo sentimientos, y no me impactó, pero veo a ambas y sé lo que pasó. Solo agregaría que sube mucho esa voz y es difícil el fiato (en andes de sur america)
Hey, Beth! I'm from Brazil and I'd really like if you do a react video of a brazilian singer called Elis Regina, singging the music "Como Nossos Pais" (Like Our Parents). Great work with yours videos! Thanks!
Demi has been battling her demons with great pains. I pray she will one day conquer all of them. This was a startling performance. WE ARE LISTENING! I feel that you should allow the video to play through before you break it down. Sorry, just a suggestion. She was also moved by Kobe Bryant's death.
This song, just slaps so hard.... I wish I could tell her, she's not alone. 🖤 We're listening now.. Balls in her court.. So beautiful. Talented. And sweet!
She ripped her heart out and laid it bear for all to see.
May she find peace and love without prejudice.
Beautiful
Thank you God bless you.
I've never been into pop music, but I have to admit, I really felt this song. Demi is a very impressive singer.
Felt it enormously...
Immortal628 Beth just shut up and let us listen to her heart. Your yakking completely ruins the flow of Demi’s song.
Louise Niro, what are you talking about?
@@carringtonbybee4876 The commentator.
its not pop-
Also remember she is crying and is emotional, and it is really hard to control your voice when you are crying. So that’s really amazing from her

Glad she was able to get her life back to a place she was able to not only perform, but just want to be around at all. Happy for her.

First time I saw her perform this I got teared up. Impossible to not feel her pain.
The best performance at the Grammys absolutely!!!!

Oh, and thank you for not saying "we are listening". That grates on my nerves , cause it shows that the people who say that don't get it.
Beautiful ❤️
