Just bought a MPC One today and this video has helped me alot. I just ordered a SD card and reader, didn't know I could put an 250gb SSD card into my mpc. I have one in storage I'm going to grab because of this video. You definitely opened my mind up to the capabilities of the newer (Live, One, X, etc) MPCs. Thanks, I support this channel!
Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately MPC One does not have a spot for a SSD card like the MPC Live and MPC X has. You can use an external drive through the USB port though. There is a slot for SD card on the One and you can put a 250 GB SD card in the One. From Akai website: What types of external storage devices does the MPC One support? The MPC One supports all USB storage devices and standard SD, SDHC, and SDXC cards. USB storage devices have no virtual limit on the capacity of the drive while SD cards up to 2TB in size are supported. External drives should be formatted in exFAT for optimal performance. To Tell you a little bit about my situation. I have been into music my whole life, I started off DJing and got to know everything and learned it all to be able to make my own songs with a beatthang. I got I'll from toxic mold poisoning years ago and it took years to get better from it, it caused me to forget some of the things I learned, so I have to refresh on them some. Like how a song goes from begining to end from into to outro, how bars should go, etc.. I remember some things, like counting, matching, mixing bpms, but I don't know where to start on my beatthang. I wanted to get back into music now that I am better so I thought I would go out and buy new good gear like the mpc live II and learn on it and start there. I looked for mpc tutorials and none of them were any good. I came across yours and clicked with you and was able to understand you. Your are by far the best ones!
This info is priceless for someone starting out on the MPC world. I really like your approach, you definitely have an effective way to teach this stuff, and it's been super helpful for me! Cheers!
This is so practical and helpful! Just ordered an mpc live 2 and this list of 'stuff to get going' has the solutions/answers to all my questions.... Links and everything!! Thank you... ☺
I love the mpc live.. now with all the new updates you can hook a interfacer straight up to it.I hook my speakers straight to it but I’ll probably end up hooking my volt interface to it cause I have the volt176 with built in compressor and all.But i dropped a 1tb ssd drive inside my live so I got allot of space.this thing is awesome and there’s plenty to learn.im having a blast with my live.I hooked my akai mpk249 in the back through midi cables so I can use the keyboard.now they have all the plug ins it’s good to go
If you install an SSD and forgot to format it first connect the MPC to your PC and put the MPC into Controller mode, you can then use Disk Manager to initialize and format the drive as exFAT.
I have a pair of Yamaha 15" Yamaha ms400 powered speakers I had bought for doing gigs. Do you think I could use those for monitoring or should I grab something a little more clearer like the rokit or Yamahas you were talking about? I want to make real bassy songs, so they sound real good in systems. I will be making house and rap beats. I have two good headphones, but I don't know if they are for studio or not. They are Sony Bluetooth mega bass. Ear buds and over ear, expensive ones.
id like a wireless setup for my mpc live mk2. bluetooth of live does not do audio, so any suggestions? i was thinking bluetooth transmitter and then transmitting to either living room soundbar (subpar option) or other bluetooth enabled speakers, but am worried about latency. any other solutions out there? any info is much appreciated.
Great videos Matthew. I'm still having trouble getting vocals into the MPC. I've hooked up my mid sized PA system in and out with the MPC, can see audio waves when I record it, but have no sound. I just want to pair my vocals to sequences I've made.. I know it must be something simple I'm missing.
If you see the audio file in the audio track, make sure you don't have your audio track monitor on. If you have monitor on you will not be able to hear the audio in the MPC Live, just the audio of the inputs.
Hi all MPC Fans, I strongly recommend the pad BRÄDA Black (better) or Pink, 42x31 cm under MPC LIVE II, from your local IKEA store. It is made of hard plastic, anti-slip rubber welded on the bottom. That looks very good. The size fits perfectly on the MPC Live II. Of course, also on MPC Live. It is also very cheap. www.ikea.com/sg/en/p/braeda-laptop-support-black-40165466/
Looks nice. I'm still using the old Amazon basic one. I actually use 2 of them now, one under my Ableton Push. I like the adjustable angles. This would looks solid though.
I have been using the Zoom H6 for my last couple of UA-cam videos with the MPC Live. amzn.to/2DGx8Y5 If I am doing a talking head video like this one I just plug the Boya by-m1 in my camera. amzn.to/34CmXzi
Your videos have helped so much over the past few months getting to grips with the MPC live. Thank you! However, I am having issues with an SD card as projects saved to it wont open from the browser. I just get an error message saying MPC PROJECT FAILED TO LOAD /media/58A5-B6C£/DnB2.xpj Any ideas what I might be doing wrong??
Matt, where did you get your desk to put all your equipment on please? I can see it in the background. Also where did you get the Monitor stands from please? Regards Paul
I been thinking about buying a friend mpc live but I’m worried if I would have to purchase new software code or will akai just give me a new code for software for free? please advise! thank you!!!
if you saved some expansions onto an SSD and some onto a SD card, does the MPC Live 2 know where to find all the expansions and make them readily available?
Hey Matthew! I use those exact headphones with my MPC Live and I've noticed that if there are 2 or 3 low notes playing simultaneously the audio becomes distorted, not sure if it's the headphones or the Live. Have you experienced this?
I haven't. Do you experience the distortion when you use the headphones with other devices? Do you hear the distortion when you plug your live into loud speakers?
@@MatthewStratton I've only experienced this with the Live and I'm thinking it may have something to do with sample rate or something like that, I'm not good with the technical aspects of audio like that but it seems like it could be something like that. I never even thought to test it on my monitors at home because i usually use other gear at home and use the Live when i work overnight. I'm gonna check it out on speakers shortly.

The preamp in not for amplifying the guitar signal. It is to change the impedance of the signal to maintain the tone of the instrument. I use the phono inputs all the time with Audio Technica turntable and experience no issues. You can hear it in my last video with MyDeadFriendz. You can change the input to 0 and work your way up with the "rec vol" knob on the back of the MPC Live.
@@MatthewStratton yeah, it gets pretty big from my Microfreak. Maybe I can get a softer signal using the line out instead of the headphone jack to phono
@@alyeska4226 sounds like you are trying to use a line level signal for the phono level inputs. You need to use the line level inputs (the 1/4 inch inputs) for most synths. Phono level inputs (the RCA ones) for most turntables.
