Why is Comey still accepted on the news circuit as he is one of the main "characters" guaranteeing Trump's victory in 2016?

I've never seen anything like it , and I work in the Australian court system. Comey said in his book that bringing up the Clinton/Weiner emails so close to the election was the hardest decision he made. I agree with him doing it.

Comey played a integral part in electing Trump when he announced he was investigating Clinton, but not Trump. Trump was being investigated too, but decided not to mention that.
I still blame him for Trump’s win more than anything else.

I have not heard any commentators comparing Michael Cohen's conviction for the same offence with Trump's and why the sentence should not be similar.
There had been on MSNBC. However, those comments included a distinction: Michael Cohen cooperated with the DA office! The same can't be said about Mr Trump...

His actions could not have been at a worse time, and most definitely had an impact on the election. He has said he had good reasons for doing what he did. I guess he can never share those fully with us. But, he needs to look no further than himself to know that he probably did tip the scales in Frump's favor.
