Quite a few years ago, probably 25 , we took our kids up into the Wind River National Forest in Washington. Upon rounding a turn there was a majestic elk standing in the middle of the road. All these years later it is still one of my most thrilling nature experiences. I have seen one black bear, probably an adolescent, and two young brown bears crossing the street in front of me in my community. They were all exciting experiences because none were in a position to cause any harm to me.

How different our 3 face to face encounters were in Connecticut when I was growing up. 2 of them were in our kitchen window scaring the daylights out of my sister. When it came back a second time, my sister screamed again, this time my Father 82nd Airborne Paratrooper ran outside and sprang a trap on it he had set up. He left the hose turned on and kept right outside the kitchen door on the breezeway. When it re-appeared the second time, Dad sprayed it with the hose as we all thought it was neighborhood pranksters. For this, it had lunged at him and then went back into the roughly 2,000 acre State Forest behind our house. When Dad came back inside I remember him saying "Whatever that was, it was big and definitely not pranksters." We had other incidents at and near our home including rocks & acorns being thrown with no one seen to have thrown them, our house getting punched at night breaking the vinyl siding, a whistling incident exactly copying my Dad in the Forest, except it was during the day and Dad was at work, and another face to face encounter at our campfire in the State Forest. One of these things came into the campfire light and our friend saw it and started screaming and crying, so bad we had to bring him home. He was truly shook up. After these instances, my Father, who was also an Army Sharpshooter, bought a 7.62mm rifle and kept it and a box of ammo by the kitchen door..."for just in case..." he would say to me. He was determined to put an end to this and I'm sure would donate the Bigfoot, if he got it, to Yale University in nearby New Haven, Connecticut or maybe UCONN. All this occurred in our State which has a fairly well-developed manufacturing & Industrial base, but even in 2024, is considered 60% woodlands. We weren't in some far removed wilderness area, or deep forgotten forest and when these incidents happened, we didn't see it climb back into a spaceship or some other nonsense. It quickly and quietly went back into the forest where it and maybe other ones, lived.
Yes, as vivid as these memories are for me, I often think of the friend who actually saw Bigfoot by our campfire. My sister on the other hand told both my daughters that she saw a gorilla in the window at Grandma’s house where she grew up. They then came and told me, that is one of the things that started the memories to come back. And you don’t have to be in some ridiculous deep forest to have these experiences.
We're fine, as a matter of fact, it's become like a family secret that in a fun way we talk privately about it. To top it off, my daughter revisited the Patterson & Parking NY area where she volunteered for 5 years at a very large Charitable organization, and as she was driving back home, she saw a large brownish blackish huge figure off in the woods digging at a stump. She said he was huge even from a distance, had extremely long arms and a cone shaped head with no shoulders and was able to see his muscles move while it turned. I said "Honey, that was a treat, you saw your first Bigfoot".Evolution
