This is a really great review as I’ve never liked the short “Here’s a few things from this book and that’s it” type of reviews. I was uncertain on if I should buy the Deadlands core book or not but you’re enthusiasm has convinced me to at least give it a try. I would love to see more reviews for other savage worlds books especially savage pathfinder and rifts
I run this all the time. In my game, the CSA wins the war just like in Guns of the South by Harry Turtledove. This is what the original setting did and it allowed for a defacto Grey vs blue that players could easily play. We also play with prejudices of the time. My table is for mature players. We don't use the gallows humor either, it breaks immersion for the horror. Never had a single complaint. Good review! I like most of the new changes.
My group has been playing DND for 5+years and I have been having a itch to play a different setting and the deadlands seems perfect for something to spice it up
Somehow I am just getting into SWADE / Deadlands. Ran my first game last night (virtually) and it went great ! I have a huckster, mad scientist and a bounty Hunter. Little rocky to start and had to table some rules calls but- man what a refreshing system. I LOVE the setting. Love to see another video from you on Deadlands in 2022 / Other products in the Deadlands portfolio etc. Great video.
make sure you get your % from pinnacle...review was detailed enough to draw me back to deadlands after quitting it altogether when they made their 'Deadlands D20' crap long ago. Deadlands box set, SWADE box set, and the Blood Drive pledge stuff. You broke me, sir.
I missed the promissed comparison. Do I need this if I need this if I own/play with reloaded revised? Really loved the player/gamemaster split there. What are the improvements?
Nice deep dive review. I was an old deadlands fan before savage worlds existed. Just picked up savage worlds and HoW reloaded, and can't wait to get my hands on this! I will say my only real complaint so far has been that the arcane backgrounds feel too similar compared to classic.
I prefer the old canon where the CSA still exists. My biggest issue with the retcon is that it is a retcon. With the timeline constantly moving forward, why not use that to tell a story. If I remember right, there were peace talks going on in the old canon. Have it when the peace talks succeed, and the two countries co-exist for a time. Then have there be groups that support Reunification. But, there are also groups that oppose Reunification. This way, the CSA ceases to exist, but it isn't a retcon. It's a source for more stories.
Great review. I've got the book on roll20 and honestly I feel like I want a refund because the compendium format is horrendously bad. But I love the content. Now I want to pick up the physical copy! I've learnt new stuff just watching this.
I've seen other channels whining about the CSA in the game. I think it childish to bitch just because one doesn't like something that happened in history. We learn from it or be destined to repeat it, it is what it is. Let's move on people. Great vid.
Getting my hands on these books. We don't actually play it. I want it to squeeze every ounce of flavor out of it for our Savage Rifts games in the west and specifically for my Crazy Gunslinger character. :)
Best introduction to Deadlands I've seen so far. I'm officially hooked. Great job!!! 👍

I'm planning on doing more. I'll do Savage Pathfinder after my books arrive and I have a chance to really sink my teeth into it.

It's a very different animal. Give it a shot.
V new to the Weird West and to your channel. Super impressed with your review and your passion. Subscribed.

Thanks. I'm planning on doing a Savage Pathfinder review on my stream this Thursday.

Aw shucks, pardner. I don't need no percentage, I'm just happy to get my thoughts out. It's a quality product and doesn't disappoint.
Thanks for sharing this thorough review. Very helpful!
I think I'm glad i have most of the original stuff.
Stellar coverage. Gave me what I needed as I don't have the most time for reading at the moment. Looking forward to jumping in soon.

That's about my opinion as well. It's far less of a criticism than a feeling it's a missed opportunity.
HoW?
Sorry, meant HoE. Short for the Deadlands Hell on Earth setting. My thumbs have bad aim.
@@fwbean119 😁 That's what I figured
Excellent review.
I think I would prefer to play in the older Deadlands setting but that's just me.
Yeah, I can understand it either way. Fortunately you can run it however you want.

Thanks. It's a great product.
What does it mean to be a compendium format?

is there a deadlands guide book that is all weapons and equipment?

Great Info, But you really need to upgrade your Camera, 480 is bad, Nowadays Phones have better ones than that.
