Dull Knives has the best break in rock and roll, IMO. And this version is the cleanest one. Watch Dany when she comes to that break, just like a marionette doll, she freezes in mid-motion only to pick it up and whisk you away. Such good craftsmanship and musicality.

When fans asked why this song was so short, they said they tried different endings and nothing worked. So they decided "not to fix what was not broken" (Dany's words) and keep the shorter ending - adding that, if you want it to be longer, you can always listen to it again. These ladies know what they're doing. :)

This performance was for a charity benefit during COVID. If I'm not mistaken, it was during this when The Warning were introduced by the head of Lava Records as being new to the label. And also, Lzzy Hale saw this performance and commented that she wanted them to tour with her. Which they did last summer.

They feel at home in this space, known as The Warning Cave, because it is their home. They have videos going back 12+ years of performing in this room. ua-cam.com/video/MUAhV8K-v3A/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/Xk7zd93qIWc/v-deo.html Their dad was a sound engineer. When he closed his studio, he brought equipment home. He sold his motorcycle to get them instruments. So they started out in this room with multiple cameras and in-ears. The wall they are facing, that the cameras are right next to, is mirrored so when Pau makes an expression, her sisters can see it. When Ale sticks out her tongue at Pau, Pau can see it.

This was a month before they would travel to New Jersey to begin recording "Error" with David Bendeth. And it was then the Spector team drove from Woodstock NY to deliver Ale's custom 5 string bass, "Ale's Inferno". The one she used in this performance was a loaner so she could practice adjusting to a 5 string. Though I don't know how much adjusting she needed since she played Pablo's 6 string back when she was 7 or 8.

While I also appreciate them showing restraint in most of their songwriting, I am curious to know where they are at on their instrumental mastery. This last album pushed Dany's limits on her vocals in a few songs (Choke and the bridge in Martirio), but the instrumental work all felt well within their comfort zone. Their live cover of Atlas Rise from in concert a few years ago really showed that Dany has more guitar chops than they often write for, Ale's partial cover of Hysteria by Muse was about as clean as you can get, so she also could up the complexity if they wrote for it, and I'd be interested to see what Pau could do on the kit if they leaned into a bit more of a metal song. I'm almost thinking they should write an instrumental - it would give their voices a nice rest if they put it in the middle of their setlist, and then they could just all concentrate on playing something extra technical without having to focus on singing at the same time. Even if they had to bring in a keyboard track or rhythm guitar track to help fill it out, just getting to watch them shred for a change would be cool.
