  • Meet Justina Szilagyi, one-time princess, four-time wife, full-time mother.
Welcome to the first video for Little Sleights, a channel where I examine some of those forgotten in the wake of legends. This is my first time doing ANYTHING like this, so please be kind! Thank you.
Also, forgive me for pronouncing Szilagyi as Szilagyi-AH, I got all the way through recording and editing and publishing and only noticed THEN.

I’m always very impressed with the depth of research you must do to get such interesting and complex back stories. Thank you!

Matthias Corvinus, king of Hungary and Croatia may figure into the history of the mysterious Voynich Manuscript. Corvinus was also known for owning a fantastic library. (One of my ancient in-laws helped acquire some of the books or manuscripts, perhaps the VM.)
I spent many hours working with the unknown writing system of the VM and believe I found Serbo-Croatian language with a writing system partly based upon Croatian Glagolitic Cursive. In March 2018, the Ardic family of Canada seemed to be able to translate some of it from Old Turkic script into Turkic language. I won't go into a lot of detail on all of this.
I believe the VM is a sort of fertility manual. Matthias Corvinus married some very young wives who did not survive for long. So, one can wonder if such a manual would have been welcome in his court.
I never cared to learn much about Vlad the Impaler because he was....uh...an impaler...and I don't really care for horror shows about Dracula.
So, I very much enjoyed your succinct history of the time and place. The Ottomans were advancing yet the VM seems to contain Turkic (and Serbo-Croatian), not Ottoman Turkish. I think the VM was the result of something cross cultural at the time. Who wrote it and why would be as interesting as what it fully means.
After watching your video, perhaps we could add Justina Szilagyi as another interesting character of the times who might have/ could have enjoyed the VM.
(I had to stop my research after I had COVID in December 2019. This caused scar tissue in my brain and that aggravated and increased severe, chronic, genetic migraine I have had for years, so that it now comes every 5 to 7 days. Most of my time is consumed with migraine which will never stop.)

Good video but your pronunciation of the Hungarian names is way off. All you need to do is listen to an app pronouncing the names like Szilágyi… which you repeatedly butcher😢 It’s something like See-la-gee (as in gee whiz or the letter “g”)
