I am 82 years of age and a former Baptist minister, I and my father, also a former Baptist minister discovered the Restored Church of Jesus Christ and joined 50 years ago. While reading the Book of Mormon we gained a testimony that it is true. The Holy Spirit has confirmed to me over and over that it is True. We are truly blessed to have this great knowledge in our lives. My love for Jesus Christ has grown over the years, thank you brother for this video and your dedication in the service in our Savior Jesus Christ.
I rejoice whenever I hear conversion stories. But I stand a bit more in awe when I hear conversion stories with unlikely paths, such as the one you have shared. It goes to show that with God, nothing shall be impossible.
@@TheRealDonLayton the more I studied Joseph Smith , Jr. and the Book of Mormon the more I could see the Restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ in preparation of His 2nd coming as predicted in the Holy Bible. I actually heard the restoration of Israel on my short wave radio in 1948. The preacher at that tome was preaching on the 2nd coming and Israel would have to be restored, I was 9 years old at the time, so I was looking for the remaining events to occur. When I was working in Saudi Arabia, I asked my co-worker named Jamal who is a Yemeni about the meaning of Nahom, and he answered that it means "mourning". In the Book of Mormon, when Ishmael died, he was buried in a place called Nahom.
I am a convert myself and have come across endless evidence of the truthfulness of The Book of Mormon. And I do glory in it all !! But the greatest witness of all has been the receiving of the witness promised to those who exercise the promises made! I love The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with all of my heart! And all of the truths found within it ! And I who considers myself a nobody yet knows I am a child of God. Knows that God the Father and Jesus Christ lives! And am everlastingly thankful that our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ loves us each enough to make these things know to all who will but ask with a sincere heart and real intent!! Brown characterize this as his ‘witness’ certainly evokes the earlier witnesses to the plates and gives the viewer a sense of what it would have been like to stand before David Whitmer or Martin Harris in their later years and hear their solemn witness. ‘Nevertheless, God sendeth more witnesses, and he proveth all his words.’

I was working on a project in Yemen in 2008. I had read about your discovery before that, but I was unable to travel to Nahom because we were on a tight timetable and that area was deemed too dangerous. I hope to be able to return to Yemen someday and visit Nahom. The Book of Mormon is true not because there is archeological evidence for it but because the Spirit says it's true. Jesus said, "My sheep hear my voice."

Thank you for going out of your way to research these facts. I just covered this section of the Book of Mormon myself. I found it interesting that in Bountiful, according to books I've read on the matter, it's a small area on the Arabian peninsula where the wood needed to build a ship could be found along with enough resources and provisions to mount a journey described in the Book of Mormon. Had they not traveled to that exact location an intercontinental crossing would have been absolutely impossible. That is why the mention of Nahom is so important. It places the group close to the only zone necessary to make a crossing.
I'm so thankful for the missionaries that Heavenly Father sent to my parents home and taught us about the gospel , our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and gave us the Book of Mormon! They taught us the lessons and baptized us into the Church back in nineteen sixty three ( if my memories serve me correctly). The power of the Priesthood has protected me and blessed me all my life. I know ( not believe) but I know the Book of Mormon to be the true word of God and it came from this Continent of America. I know ( not believe) but I know Joseph Smith was and is a true Prophet of God the Eternal Heavenly Father and that Joseph was called of God to do His work ( the translation of the golden plates ) into what we know to be the Book Of Mormon and to build up His church here on the face of the earth. I'm so blessed to have many experiences that confirm to me that these things are true and I'm so blessed to be a member of Heavenly Fathers church today. I leave my testimony that these things are true , in the name of Jesus Christ amen.

I sure didn't I grew up Mormon and I didn't get a choice. I found truth by logic There's literally millions of tons of copper removed from Michigan. There was a bronze age where? The lost tribes of dan was in celtic land.. where were there red haired native americans? In the algonquin speaking tribes one of which speaks archaic hebrew.

Thank you bother Brown for sharing this story that, alone doesn't prove the BOM as true, but stands as one of thousands of evidences for its truth and strengthens testimonies. I find it interesting that there are always a handful of thumbs down for these type of videos by some who hate the Church for whatever reason, but rarely any evidence is provided by them contradicting what is shown. The BOM is as true today as it was when published in Joseph Smith's day. Yes, time vindicates the prophets!

If the Book of Mormon is true, then the story of its revelation is true. If the story of its revelation is true, then the gospel is true. If the gospel is true, then the greatest hope for the eternal happiness of the human family is true. If the Book of Mormon is not true, however, then we are all just temporary assortments of worthless molecules doomed to eternal nothingness. It's incredible to me how badly some people want to believe that.
I don't know about that, you can still believe in the Bible without believing in the Book of Mormon, and this is the case with many people. Many people who have no belief in the Book of Mormon do not feel that "we are all just temporary assortments of worthless molecules doomed to eternal nothingness". However, if the Book of Mormon is true, then it does prove the teachings in the Bible to be true as well.

The subsequent comments all miss the point. The Book of Mormon does not exist to prove the Bible whatsoever. The Book of Mormon came forth to establish the restoration of Christ's actual gospel, to restore the priesthood by which God operates through man, and to demonstrate that continuing revelation is not only necessary, but also that the Prophet Joseph Smith opened that door. If you don't care to test the claims of the Book of Mormon, you have your Bible!

I would suggest that people read the novel by Keith Terry called "Out of Darkness". It is well written history in novel form. There is no way that the Book of Mormon was written by Joseph Smith or anyone else from that time.
Thank you for so much. I am embarrassed to say that, from time to time, the naysayers have planted doubt & worry within me. Luckily it didn't deter me to much. I was blessed beyond measure as a youth to be taught about getting answers to prayers. When my brother died I demanded answers from God versus relying on anyone past, present, or future. God, by way of the Holy Ghost, told me the Book of Mormon is true. "What greater witness can you have than from God?" (Doctrine & Covenants 6: 23). It is surprisingly easy to discredit The Book of Mormon critics. Well, you made it seem easy enough. Honest seekers after truth should hold on to answers to their prayers. What is more consistently good, powerfully good, then the Book of Mormon? I'm embarrassed about my silly sins and hope for leniency. I will try to forgive the Book of Mormon critics who embrace malice and try to destroy the Book of Mormon.
I have my father to thank for playing the devil's advocate and making sure I don't take my belief system for granted. Because of that, I believe for myself that the Book of Mormon is the inspired Word of God.

We know for a fact that maps with Nehem existed in smiths time. We know that they were in America during smiths time. If there is a debate between smith having gotten Nahom from golden plates or maps and the golden plates cant even positively show that they existed then maps is the more likely theory, no matter how unlikely it is that he saw one.
Who knoweth the mind and will and doings of God but God Himself... and those men and women to whom God reveals it by the power of The Holy Ghost. Lehi was one of those as were Lehi’s sons Sam, Nephi, Jacob, and (we presume) Joseph. As the Spirit of God bore witness of Eternal Truths to those men, so it is that the faithful and obedient of our day receive the same witness of the same Eternal Truths FROM THE SAME SOURCE. I know of myself, from the source of all Truths which are beyond the reach of weak mortal man, that the sacred records of Lehi, Nephi, and Jacob contained in The Book of Mormon are true and accurate sacred histories of their family. I know that their ancient migration to the Western Hemisphere was directed by God in order to fulfill many of the more ancient Hebrew prophesies of Isaiah, Ezekiel, Jeremiah, Amos, and others. Examples of ancient Hebrew prophesies seeing their fulfillment in the written record of The Book of Mormon are Isaiah’s “BOOK THAT IS SEALED” in chapter 29 of his witness, and Ezekiel’s “STICK OF JOSEPH” found in chapter 37 of his witness. And there are many many more prophesies of both The Old and New Testaments which have seen their literal fulfillment in the coming forth of The Book of Mormon and subsequent FULL RESTORATION of the ONE and ONLY original Church of Jesus Christ, overseen by a chief Apostle and the body of men called THE TWELVE APOSTLES of Jesus Christ. The prophesies of which I speak, in both The Old and New Testaments, can and will be confirmed to those who sincerely seek the mind, will, and doings of God The Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, but only after sincere and serious study, pondering, and prayer all done in the name of Jesus Christ, for it is only thru Christ that we gain access to The Father and the sacred Truths of Eternity that He stands waiting to reveal to us when we are truly prepared to receive them.

Should do a series comparing Smith's original 1830 edition of the Book of Mormon copied directly from Moroni's golden plates to todays version and what basis modern scholars used for changing the text since Smith said that he returned the plates to the angel Moroni; thus they could never be examined. For instance: Compare 1830, 1 Nephi 3, p. 24 with 1837 and current, 1 Nephi 11:18 or 1830, 1 Nephi 3, p. 32 - These last records ... shall make known to all kindreds, tongues, and people, that the Lamb of God is the Eternal Father and the Saviour of the world. vs 1837 and current, 1 Nephi 13:40 - These last records.…shall make known to all kindreds, tongues, and people, that the Lamb of God is the Son of the Eternal Father and the Savior of the world. for example. In other words, modern bible translations base their scholarship on source manuscripts. Where did the new translation/new addition in the Book of Mormon come from since there is no source manuscript if the plates were taken away? Did Smith copy it down wrong when he said "the Lamb of God is the Eternal Father" and if Smith was divinely led and divinely inspired then why did subsequent translations change the text to read "The Lamb of God is the son of the Eternal Father." That seems to me to be quite a big difference. Thank you.
I think 99% of people fail to recognize that God works with flawed human beings. Do I believe that JS was an inspired prophet? Yes. Do I believe that he was a mortal human subject to temptations and traps like all of us? Yes. Is it not conceivable that he AND Oliver Cowdery made mistakes while transcribing the record? Of course. I'm grateful that we continue to have revelation through modern prophets and apostles (not modern scholars) to correct these when and where appropriate. In the end, Faith is what rules the day. This is a neat connection that seems to have some good supporting evidence. Regardless, it changes absolutely nothing for me concerning my belief in the Book of Mormon.
I think if you actually read the Book of Mormon you wouldn’t come up with all these things you have copied and pasted for your”dissertation”. I’ve seen these pointed so many times and even discussed on You Tube videos from pastors who preach these in their pulpits. I invite you to read it. The scholarship for these repairs is all based on differences between the original manuscript written directly by the scribes working with Joseph and the printers manuscript. In the process of creating the second manuscript for the printer a few words were changed. recent changes are from the printers manuscript to the original manuscript. The relevant documents are all publically available and are actively being digitized

As this is an important distinction - which is correct? The original manuscript written by Joseph and the scribes overseen by Maroni or the printer's manuscript? Well your map. Look at the Camp of Broken Bow. Our elders always secretly joke that we were Jewish before Mohammad (PBUH) then willingly accepted Islam. My home town at Baljurashi City nearest city to the Camp. You sure they didn't leave people there because my cusins are doing DNA tests and all showing higher joudan (Jewish as a race) than Arabian. Thank you for going out of your way to research these facts. I just covered this section of the Book of Mormon myself. I found it interesting that in Bountiful, according to books I've read on the matter, it's a small area on the Arabian peninsula where the wood needed to build a ship could be found along with enough resources and provisions to mount a journey described in the Book of Mormon. Had they not traveled to that exact location an intercontinental crossing would have been absolutely impossible. That is why the mention of Nahom is so important. It places the group close to the only zone necessary to make a crossing.
You do not need "proof" to have a testimony. However, when you already have a testimony, it's really nice to see things like this.

I'm so thankful for the missionaries that Heavenly Father sent to my parents home and taught us about the gospel , our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and gave us the Book of Mormon! They taught us the lessons and baptized us into the Church back in nineteen sixty three ( if my memories serve me correctly). The power of the Priesthood has protected me and blessed me all my life. I know ( not believe) but I know the Book of Mormon to be the true word of God and it came from this Continent of America. I know ( not believe) but I know Joseph Smith was and is a true Prophet of God the Eternal Heavenly Father and that Joseph was called of God to do His work ( the translation of the golden plates ) into what we know to be the Book Of Mormon and to build up His church here on the face of the earth. I'm so blessed to have many experiences that confirm to me that these things are true and I'm so blessed to be a member of Heavenly Fathers church today. I leave my testimony that these things are true , in the name of Jesus Christ amen.

I sure didn't I grew up Mormon and I didn't get a choice. I found truth by logic There's literally millions of tons of copper removed from Michigan. There was a bronze age where? The lost tribes of dan was in celtic land.. where were there red haired native americans? In the algonquin speaking tribes one of which speaks archaic hebrew.

I find it interesting that there are always a handful of thumbs down for these type of videos by some who hate the Church for whatever reason, but rarely any evidence is provided by them contradicting what is shown. The BOM is as true today as it was when published in Joseph Smith's day. Yes, time vindicates the prophets!

If the Book of Mormon is true, then the story of its revelation is true. If the story of its revelation is true, then the gospel is true. If the gospel is true, then the greatest hope for the eternal happiness of the human family is true.
If the Book of Mormon is not true, however, then we are all just temporary assortments of worthless molecules doomed to eternal nothingness. It's incredible to me how badly some people want to believe that.
I don't know about that, you can still believe in the Bible without believing in the Book of Mormon, and this is the case with many people. Many people who have no belief in the Book of Mormon do not feel that "we are all just temporary assortments of worthless molecules doomed to eternal nothingness". However, if the Book of Mormon is true, then it does prove the teachings in the Bible to be true as well.

The subsequent comments all miss the point. The Book of Mormon does not exist to prove the Bible whatsoever. The Book of Mormon came forth to establish the restoration of Christ's actual gospel, to restore the priesthood by which God operates through man, and to demonstrate that continuing revelation is not only necessary, but also that the Prophet Joseph Smith opened that door. Kent, although it was sad to see you slowing down, it made your presentation even more effective. When you got to the Dartmouth episode, it became comedic, as one trying to explain to s l o w - m i n d e d critics,. the odds of Joseph and Nahom. We have testimonies of such sureness that we feel we are reading sometimes from the plates themselves. When critics succeed in drawing away members we wonder why anyone of age could skip reading our foundational document! When a PLACE NAME pops up, that trumps a stone pillar anyday! Thank you for so much. I am embarrassed to say that, from time to time, the naysayers have planted doubt & worry within me. Luckily it didn't deter me to much. I was blessed beyond measure as a youth to be taught about getting answers to prayers. When my brother died I demanded answers from God versus relying on anyone past, present, or future. God, by way of the Holy Ghost, told me the Book of Mormon is true. "What greater witness can you have than from God?" (Doctrine & Covenants 6: 23). It is surprisingly easy to discredit The Book of Mormon critics. Well, you made it seem easy enough. Honest seekers after truth should hold on to answers to their prayers. What is more consistently good, powerfully good, then the Book of Mormon? I'm embarrassed about my silly sins and hope for leniency. I will try to forgive the Book of Mormon critics who embrace malice and try to destroy the Book of Mormon.
I have my father to thank for playing the devil's advocate and making sure I don't take my belief system for granted. Because of that, I believe for myself that the Book of Mormon is the inspired Word of God.

We know for a fact that maps with Nehem existed in smiths time. We know that they were in America during smiths time. If there is a debate between smith having gotten Nahom from golden plates or maps and the golden plates cant even positively show that they existed then maps is the more likely theory, no matter how unlikely it is that he saw one.
Who knoweth the mind and will and doings of God but God Himself... and those men and women to whom God reveals it by the power of The Holy Ghost. Lehi was one of those as were Lehi’s sons Sam, Nephi, Jacob, and (we presume) Joseph. As the Spirit of God bore witness of Eternal Truths to those men, so it is that the faithful and obedient of our day receive the same witness of the same Eternal Truths FROM THE SAME SOURCE.
I know of myself, from the source of all Truths which are beyond the reach of weak mortal man, that the sacred records of Lehi, Nephi, and Jacob contained in The Book of Mormon are true and accurate sacred histories of their family. I know that their ancient migration to the Western Hemisphere was directed by God in order to fulfill many of the more ancient Hebrew prophesies of Isaiah, Ezekiel, Jeremiah, Amos, and others. Examples of ancient Hebrew prophesies seeing their fulfillment in the written record of The Book of Mormon are Isaiah’s “BOOK THAT IS SEALED” in chapter 29 of his witness, and Ezekiel’s “STICK OF JOSEPH” found in chapter 37 of his witness. And there are many many more prophesies of both The Old and New Testaments which have seen their literal fulfillment in the coming forth of The Book of Mormon and subsequent FULL RESTORATION of the ONE and ONLY original Church of Jesus Christ, overseen by a chief Apostle and the body of men called THE TWELVE APOSTLES of Jesus Christ. The prophesies of which I speak, in both The Old and New Testaments, can and will be confirmed to those who sincerely seek the mind, will, and doings of God The Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, but only after sincere and serious study, pondering, and prayer all done in the name of Jesus Christ, for it is only thru Christ that we gain access to The Father and the sacred Truths of Eternity that He stands waiting to reveal to us when we are truly prepared to receive them.

Should do a series comparing Smith's original 1830 edition of the Book of Mormon copied directly from Moroni's golden plates to todays version and what basis modern scholars used for changing the text since Smith said that he returned the plates to the angel Moroni; thus they could never be examined.
For instance:
Compare 1830, 1 Nephi 3, p. 24 with 1837 and current, 1 Nephi 11:18
or
1830, 1 Nephi 3, p. 32 - These last records ... shall make known to all kindreds, tongues, and people, that the Lamb of God is the Eternal Father and the Saviour of the world.
vs
1837 and current, 1 Nephi 13:40 - These last records.…shall make known to all kindreds, tongues, and people, that the Lamb of God is the Son of the Eternal Father and the Savior of the world.
for example.
In other words, modern bible translations base their scholarship on source manuscripts. Where did the new translation/new addition in the Book of Mormon come from since there is no source manuscript if the plates were taken away?
Did Smith copy it down wrong when he said "the Lamb of God is the Eternal Father" and if Smith was divinely led and divinely inspired then why did subsequent translations change the text to read "The Lamb of God is the son of the Eternal Father." That seems to me to be quite a big difference.

I think 99% of people fail to recognize that God works with flawed human beings. Do I believe that JS was an inspired prophet? Yes. Do I believe that he was a mortal human subject to temptations and traps like all of us? Yes. Is it not conceivable that he AND Oliver Cowdery made mistakes while transcribing the record? Of course. I'm grateful that we continue to have revelation through modern prophets and apostles (not modern scholars) to correct these when and where appropriate. In the end, Faith is what rules the day. This is a neat connection that seems to have some good supporting evidence. Regardless, it changes absolutely nothing for me concerning my belief in the Book of Mormon.
I think if you actually read the Book of Mormon you wouldn’t come up with all these things you have copied and pasted for your”dissertation”. I’ve seen these pointed so many times and even discussed on You Tube videos from pastors who preach these in their pulpits.
I invite you to read it. Read it and allow the spirit of the Lord to bear witness of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon to you. I truly believe it will change the way you see this great book

The scholarship for these repairs is all based on differences between the original manuscript written directly by the scribes working with Joseph and the printers manuscript. In the process of creating the second manuscript for the printer a few words were changed. recent changes are from the printers manuscript to the original manuscript. The relevant documents are all publically available and are actively being digitized

As this is an important distinction - which is correct? The original manuscript written by Joseph and the scribes overseen by Maroni or the printer's manuscript? And how do we know it's correct since the original golden tablets have been taken up?
Well your map. Look at the Camp of Broken Bow. Our elders always secretly joke that we were Jewish before Mohammad (PBUH) then willingly accepted Islam. My home town at Baljurashi City nearest city to the Camp. You sure they didn't leave people there because my cusins are doing DNA tests and all showing higher joudan (Jewish as a race) than Arabian. I will investigate some coming year.

One problem I have with the Book of Mormon is that it runs head long; butt-up against "The Dispensation of the Grace of God" - given to the Apostle Paul for us Gentiles. Every attempt to marry the two is feeble and foolish. That is a challenge for you and anyone who would try!
