I love this tutorial. It's honest and I love that it doesn't work right away - because those whistles are finicky bastards and everybody who manages to get them to work on their first try is either a witch or a warlock. It took me eight attempts until I managed to make a working clay whistle. Thanks to this video I didn't give up. What's so helpful about this specific whistle making video? 1. stays in frame at all times 2. such a nice voice 3. such an optimistic attitude 4. a visual aid of how it should look in the end 5. talking about the 45 angle 6. clear footage 7. slightly different technique to the other videos I watched (cutting a triangular piece off the mouthpiece before attaching it) Very encouraging and well done.
When you put the popsicle stick in after the hole is clean and looks like you want, don't push the stick all the way past the hole. You can use the stick to point at the angle (known as the flute) and when you look through the breath hole, you should see half light and half dark.
