Thank you. This opens a world of possibilities for me. The coloring technique can be improved using more pure pigments like those used in watercolors. Maybe acrilic paint or gouache might work… I will have to try. Or leave it clear and paint later. Also the making technique. You could have doubled the tapes with pliable cardboard like that from cereal packaging.
Make a simple piping bag to get the liquid plastic into the narrow space. Don't reuse the bag for icing a cake though! Put the liquid plastic into a small but tough plastic bag - like a ziplock bag. Close the bag, squeezing all the air out as you do so. Then force the mixture into the bottom corner. Snip off a triangle at the bottom of that corner. Start small when cutting the hole. You can always enlarge it as needed. Then put the corner tip at the bottom of your mould. If your bag is too fat to get into the space, move some of the contents to make it thinner. Open the ziplock if you need to let out more air. Squeeze the bag to release the contents, moving upwards as you fill the space. Much easier than using a trowel-like instrument to try and force the mixture into the mould.

Probably, there is something wrong with your acetone. Usually, if you pour acetone on plastic, it starts to melt right away, so, in 30 minutes you would have liquid plastic. If your plastic just clumped the plastic together, the "strength" of your acetone is not enough. Check this. I didn't falsify anything in this video

Hello! Thank you for your questions! Here are my replies: 1. It depends on how tight you close the lid of the container. I would say 1-2 weeks maximum. It's better to prepare a "fresh" melted plastic each time you want to use it. 2. I think yes, as the liquefied plastic gets hardened as soon as acetone evaporates. But I think the "quality" of such plastic glue would be worse 3. You need to try this, I did not try.
Thank you for taking time to respond, @@YouCanTelevision ü Preparing a "fresh" mix and re-using hardened mixes are very useful info indeed. is there a particular type of acetone required or could any type of acetone, say like consumer ones used for removing nail polish be used?
You would need 100% acetone, or close to this concentration. I do not know what is the concentration of acetone in nail polish, possibly its not 100%. I bought mine at a building materials store in the department, where oil paints solvents are sold.
@@rv_PH nail polish removers are not 100% acetone anymore, it hasn't been for years, It's either ethyl acetate and isopropyl alcohol [which takes for ever to remove nail polish verses acetone] Or Acetone and ethyl acetate The other and less common "Acetonitrile" can also be used as a nail polisher remover, it's highly toxic banned in the EU since 2000 I would use that ever.

Here are my answers to your examination questions: Shelf life for the mixture - I would say 1-2 weeks, not more, depending on how tight you close the lid of the container. I did not test the cure times by various percent of acetone, but if you use 100% acetone, the cure time depends on how thick the layer of the liquid plastic, from 3-4 hours to 24-48 hours. The more thick the plastic layer is the more time you would need to have it cured
Your mould is too flimsy to support the plastic. Better use thin balsa wood wrapped in clear tape. As the mould is very narrow, a syringe would come in handy. And it could help to remove the plant before the repair…
Wish I’d known that CD case plastic was the right stuff! Would have saved me a lot of time last year when I needed to repair a kitchen tool! I in the US, and I DID get nail polish remover to work, but I had to get the better quality stuff, *without* additives for “nourishing” your nails. But now I know I just need to raid my CD case collection! 😂
Thank you for commenting, yes, knowledge is the power. To get the plastic liquefied you need highly concentrated acetone, close to 100%. I do not know what is the acetone concentration in nail polish. Good luck with your experiments!
The mixture has also been used to provide a water-resistant surface for lures made of balsa wood. The amount of acetone in the mixture is higher when used a lure varnish. So varnish is more like liquid than glue state like in this video. Tnx for video! 😊
No, not every kind of plastic melts with acetone. I tried different kinds of plastic, including clear acrylic sheet. The best kind appeared to be the plastic from a compact disc box.

Pots are expensive. Also why throw away extremely polluting plastic when you can repair it. And do not talk about recycling: it just does not happen most of the time and you should know it. I rarely say anything like that. However your comment is at best ignorant and stupid.
It's an example. You can do the same with anything else that's way more expensive. It seems to be quite good, and probably with a bit more of acetone it would have been more liquid and easier to fill.
Ah but most other plastic parts cost a lot more than a dollar and you often can’t get them . If you find them used they are in similar shape from sun damage and new has an eye watering price tag😥
@@YouCanTelevision no, what you propose is more time consuming and expensive unless you already have the materials. You don't even finish the repair to match the entire pot. It's basically an unfinished job on a cheap plastic pot. Nothing interesting about that

Your mould is too flimsy to support the plastic. Better use thin balsa wood wrapped in clear tape. As the mould is very narrow, a syringe would come in handy. And it could help to remove the plant before the repair…
Thank you for your comments. They make sense!

That’s great. Thanks
Thank you for your positive comment!
Fantásticoooooo, amei!
Thanks a lot!
at 7:18 you injured your thumb and went to bloody HOSPITAL...what a messssss
No, I did not))
The mixture has also been used to provide a water-resistant surface for lures made of balsa wood. The amount of acetone in the mixture is higher when used a lure varnish. So varnish is more like liquid than glue state like in this video. Tnx for video! 😊
Thank you so much for your story and commenting! ❤️❤️❤️
i'm glad i'm not the only person that decants his chemicals in obscure brown bottles
Yes, glass brown bottles are must have for aggressive chemicals! Thank you for your contribution!
Jo pegvin night ke time mobile prohibited ke karan hamko nahi dekha na mila agewala apisod me, vo aj apne dikha dia, bhut badia sidesin 👌👌👌👌
Thanks for such an unusual comment!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Does any kind of plastic melt with acetone?
How i can know the right kind?
Thank you
No, not every kind of plastic melts with acetone. I tried different kinds of plastic, including clear acrylic sheet. The best kind appeared to be the plastic from a compact disc box.
@@YouCanTelevision thank you.
You can also use polystyrene works well but you need a lot of it to fill a big glass
Yes, I understand, maybe I will try this method one day

I would drill stop the end of the other crack, so it doesn't crack any further. Or, you could just buy another pot...just sayin'.
Yes, thank you for your comment, it makes sense!
Not everyone is the position at the moment to by a pot🤦
Pots are expensive. Also why throw away extremely polluting plastic when you can repair it. And do not talk about recycling: it just does not happen most of the time and you should know it.
I rarely say anything like that. However your comment is at best ignorant and stupid.
Awesome .thank you

Super super 👌👌👌👏
Thank you so much! ❤️❤️❤️
I honestly think to spend $1 for another flower pot would have been a much easier fix than going through what you did.
It's an example. You can do the same with anything else that's way more expensive. It seems to be quite good, and probably with a bit more of acetone it would have been more liquid and easier to fill.
örnek olsun diye yapmıştır,elinde o saksı vardir, pc,computer parçası olduğunu düşün,yada bir araba tamponu😉
Ah but most other plastic parts cost a lot more than a dollar and you often can’t get them . If you find them used they are in similar shape from sun damage and new has an eye watering price tag😥
or you can just buy a new plastic pot at a dollar store for like a buck
Yes, it's possible, but what I propose is more interesting!
@@YouCanTelevision no, what you propose is more time consuming and expensive unless you already have the materials. You don't even finish the repair to match the entire pot. It's basically an unfinished job on a cheap plastic pot. Nothing interesting about that
@@rodnyg7952Try not to be so anal. It's a technique which one day may come in handy. The flower pot is just for example. Now go away and start practicing being 12 years old. And you have a spelling test tomorrow.
What a literalist! Use your imagination. He is just showing you how to repair plastic... replacing the broken piece on my central vac, any tool housing, more expensive decorative items.... worth it.
Many expensive household objects and appliances have plastic parts that are unavailable or expensive to purchase and are essential to their function.
@@cecilbrisley5185 how am I a literalist? You don't seem to understand that word. You may mean perfectionist. No, I'm much less than a perfectionist. I try to do the intelligent thing depending on situation. In this situation it's just cheaper, less time consuming to just buy a new one.
Great video with useful info. What type(s) of plastic can be used when I don't have any CD covers ?
You can search for ABS plastic, if you can find it at your home
I do essentially the same thing with tubes of epoxy I get from Harbor Freight. less hassle. In one "professional" job, I made an RTV mold of a similar area, and taped it into place.
Thank you for your input! Your comment is much appreciated!
Very fine
More .more thanks.NaGu
This is more useful to me though because I have acetone and I have cd cases. I don't have epoxy.
Amigo. Se colocar mais acetona fica mais liquido? Voce já tentou? Obrigado por postar. Inscrito. Abraco do Brasil
AWESOME ❤😮 Thanks for the great idea 🎉

congratulations for your work! Does this formula work with any type of plastic?
Thank you for your comment, acetone can liquefy only some types of plastic, like ABS or PS.

Great for repairing the dents, scrapes and scuffs on plastic panel cars (my Smart)
Just add some matching color.
Remove the panel & you can lay the panel to make that little portion to be flat.
Use a single edge razor blade to remove excess glue
Ta dah😊
Thank you so much for your comment, it adds value to the viewers!

❤ Love this repair idea a lot ❤️. Can I use nail polish remover, too? Just thought because it is made of acetone, too. Or does this technic works only by the use of pure acetone? Have some small tiny parts from the inside of my car that would need a plastic repair with black color. Thx for sharing and blessings
Thank you for your positive comment! I am afraid nail polish remover will not work in this case. You will need 100% acetone. I also draw your attention that not all the plastics are liquefied by acetone, so, practice needed to get the results you want.
@@YouCanTelevision thanks you and blessings
May I ask what kind of resin can be used to dissolve with acetone? Is the plastic of the BIC pen okay?
Hello and thank you for your question! I do not know about the resin, I doubt that a resin can be dissolved with acetone. As for the BIC pen - you can try, this may work, but should be tested
Thanks for sharing. I wonder if this can be used as paint hardener.
I do not know, this needs to be tested
