Nice video. My father who is from Haytor where this film opened, owned a RHD Montreal in this exact colour in the late 70’s. Much preferred it to the Dino GT4 he had around that time too. No comparison he states. I’ve Wanted one ever since!
Cheers from Michigan! What a beautiful video about my favorite car - one of the best narrations and a love story. Mine started 50 years ago, saw Hans Stuck driving the same orange one close to my school in Munich in the seventies. Drove the first in the eighties, but couldn’t afford. Then bought mine early nineties in Switzerland - was originally orange. Managed good Autobahn speeds at 230 km/h. Ten years ago I brought her to US. And when you released the video, that day I replaced my points the first time in almost 50 years. We even share black leather seats and for sure a good driving style. Enjoy her. Mine is NOT for sale- my daughters are next in line! Thanks for posting.
Thanks for watching Thomas - it's such a glamorous car and I'm determined to own one before too long, even if I have to buy a wreck and rebuild it. You are a lucky man and I hope your Daughters appreciate that too!
UA-cam suggested this and I'm glad it did. Way back in the mid-70s (I was about 10) went with my parents to pick up the new (actually not quite new) family car. It was a Fiat 132 but in NZ Fiat/Alfa/Lancia/Ferrari were all combined dealers. I vividly remember the car featured in the main showroom display, a bright orange Alfa Montreal. I always liked Italian cars (others in the family had 850/124 Coupé) but those two cars probably set me on a lifetime of only owning Italians, in my case Fiat/Abarth! Subscribed!
Thanks a lot for subscribing Robin - I also love Fiats (had two X1/9’s and a Strada) I will be featuring some other Italian cars as well as Alfas, because frankly I love them all! Driving a Lancia Integrale very soon! 😀
THANK YOU. The first Montreal I ever witnessed personally was sometime in the very early 1980’s at an Alfa Club meet at the Brooks Stevens Auto Museum in Mequon, Wisconsin. She was in utterly perfect factory condition, and in that lurid primary green that only the 1970’s could ever give us... I could not get over the partially-veiled headlamps...that series of B-pillar vents...and the clustering of all gauges into those two cannon-like instrument tubes...my young mind could not process a more exotic ground-rocket than this! Gandini...standing ovation! I was blessed to visit the Museo Storico Alfa Romeo in Arese, Italy in 2017, where I saw my 2nd Montreal (the factory-owned orange example much like your tester) but also the Prototipo...developed for ‘Expo ‘67’ in Montreal! Dreams realized..! (PS : I did convince my parents to choose a new Peugeot 505STI by age 14...sorry...the US never got the Montreal unless one knew some ‘special colleagues..!’)
Thanks for commenting Grant, the Montreal had a similar effect on me aged about 12. I’m also planning to get to the Arese museum next summer, as part of a “chasing the Mille Miglia” trip! It looks amazing.
The Alfa Nut Arese is an amazing museum...but for us Alfa Nutters, make sure to take a drive behind the Museum-proper and explore the industrial estate just beyond; much of the original Arese plant has been leveled for Italy’s largest shopping-mall ‘Il Centro’...but much of the Alfa infrastructure still survives... (I understand it’s a great mall, too...Everything!) I can’t think of a better channel to air your Alfa-Centric urban-explorations on...and obviously Arese will always be an Alfisti-spelunking fantasy! Gain access...one way or another?
Hi mate, thanks for watching. Yes, 1970’s is definitely my favourite era for car design: Italian, British and American. There is also something very similar about the grille and bonnet of the 1970 American Motors AMX coupe don’t you think?
What a treat to listen too. Seen a few of them at various Italian car shows back in the later 2000’s what I used to attend with my Alfa I owned at the time but that is the first time I have heard one fully open up on the road 😀
Hi Chris, yes it was a fantastic noise for sure! It also got lots of attention and personally I think the Monty looks so much cooler in person than in photos.
Just finished restoring my grey GT 1300 Junior stepnose in grigio chiaro metallizato with brown interior. Bought it 3 years ago (at the age of 23) and finished just a few months ago. I will never sell this car, especially because of the work done with my father and brother (none of us works as a mechanic by the way but the car turned out perfectly well), because it has always been my dream car and because I can't afford to have and keep two classic cars! You are invited to step in it if you are in Switzerland one day:) Greetings and thanks for the good content.
@@TheAlfaNut yeah I'm really proud of it. I actually spent quite a bit of time working on it and also quite a bit money. Found the car in decent shape (no rust but restoration needed) at a good price. Was propably my last chance to buy one of these! Pretty sure you can't find any better looking GT 1300 Juniot that quick;)
Hi Chris, I had a schoolboy crush on the Montreal too. Actually had in the ride in the back of one ( not the most comfortable experience in the world , l must confess) but the experience of the car at over 100 mph was amazing, yes on a British one at that. It was a very rare RHD example belonging to an AROC member in the West Midlands , great car , happy days .
Incredible bro this is a wonderfull muscle italian car, the engine song bro is a soul medicine 🙏 thanks bro ,great job, great video ,great LIKE👍 FROM ITALY.
I quite agree Arran - I think if Gandini had never lived, many cars today would look very different. I'm planning an episode purely about him at some point.
The Alfa Nut that sounds great I look forward to seeing that if you haven’t seen already there’s a great interview on you tube done by Davide Cironi it’s in Italian with subtitles He designed so many great looking cars it’s amazing like the Lamborghini Countach and Diablo Fiat X19 Lancia Stratos
@@TheAlfaNut To be honest, it's not quite "fair" to say it is the favourite because there's a lot of sentimental attachment and it is a specific car, not a model. It is a 1931 8C 2300 Monza, car number 28. My great grand uncle owned and raced it, you can still see his last name on the side of the car.
This is my idea of having a classic car like this, trying to keep it as stock as possible but at the same time modifying it so that it becomes as comfortable and reliable as possible, power steering, electronic injection, and air conditioning and so easily we basically have the perfect classic GT.
Hi JR, thanks for watching. Yes this Monty has been very skilfully updated and improved, without losing any character. Its also quite a lot quicker! 😉.
“Look at his face, just look at his face” That’s a phrase used during Match of the day intro and it definitely is relevant in this great film, well done Chris for getting there after 40 years. I fully understand it as I felt the same as a 14 year old on holiday in Italy with my parents and I first saw the Fiat 124 sport coupe. I was totally gobsmacked and have always wanted one and still do 47 years later (maybe not the right thing to say on an Alfa group page). Maybe one day...great film, enjoyed it.
Just discovered and subscribed to your channel. A few months ago l purchased a 65 Giulia SS for a ridiculous sum and to be honest it's worth every penny. Even before the SS l fell in love with the Montreal. This video is predicting another large dent in my liquid funds.
Hi Michael and thanks for subscribing. Apologies for my part in your fiscal downfall! The Giulia SS is a beautiful car (and rare!) I was watching a video recently featuring Afshin Behnia’s Giulia SS (he's the CEO of Petrolicious). Lovely car - hope you enjoy it!
The Alfa Nut watching the video of Afshin on Jay Leno's garage pushed me over the edge. It took awhile for me to convince myself to drop over 6 figures on a car with a little over 100 hp but l am so glad l did. I like the mods Alfaholics did to the Monty, it's next in the list!
That must have been an exciting event? I have been to Vancouver and the Rockies but didn’t have time to cover the whole of Canada - its what you might call “large”! I found that Canadians had a more similar sense of humour to the English than the US guys do - more irony! 😄
@@1983dmd I’ve spent quite a bit of time in Brittany - its lovely. I also found the people there more friendly to the English than some other parts of France! (We are in Devon in South England, so former Brothers to the Bretons anyway!). How is lockdown treating you?

Nicely done, but please not other badge bashing. 2:44 Peugeot had great cars! I own a Maserati, a Alfa and a Aston Martin. What I drive most? My Peugeot 106 XLD 4 door Mk1 1995 with the gorgeos 1,5 Liter TUD engine. Reliable, economical, maneuverable, roomy for such a car, panormaic view and with top speed 150 km/h and so much fun to drive!! A great, great car! (And if you looking for one of the best 24 valve V6´s, take a look on the fabulous ES9 J4 from the late Citroen XM or the Peugeot 605)
Sorry Monsieur Hulot - just a bit of fun! I have owned two Maserati's too (4200 Spider and coupe) and also a Renault 5GT Turbo, Peugeot 306, Fiats, Lancias and many others too. I still want a Peugeot 205 GTI after all these years! I'd also love a Citroen SM from the '70's and I have a fondness for the old GS model too. When I was a kid, I drove across France from Compiegne to Nice in one several times on holiday with some French friends. Hot weather, no aircon and sticky black vinyl seats but very comfortable!
@@TheAlfaNut Thanks for your quick answer! All forgiven after these lines :-) But you have right if we draw a line. BEFORE 2000 and AFTER. The new Peugeots after the millenium are often like from a other marque. Not THE french Mercedes, rather ugly, stupid, rubbish and unreliable crap. You must mean these, with a lion that is ashame of the fact where he was fixed on.
@@TheAlfaNut ..and try the Alfa 75 QV with the 3 Liter engine and only 8 HP less than the Montreal. The Busso sound, the transaxle balance, the sitting position ;-) and the very good quality (nothing in common with in the south produced cars like the 33 from the same years). It´s worth!!
Had it 6 years and then was made a offer i could not refuse ... the owner of Alfa dealership in Cape Town offered me 4 Guilettas for the montreal ... i then bought porsche 928 S
One of those cars you wish were more widely available and affordable. Here in the USA, let's say Ford had bought this design from Bertone / Gandini. Then let's say they executed it so it looked exactly the same as this car inside and out, but used their own contemporary Windsor V8 and other running gear. They could have called it a Mustang, would have sold hundreds of thousands of them for reasonable prices, and lots of us could now have one. Sigh.
Me too, I’m scheming to find a way I can buy one. Without wishing to sound heartless (I’m certainly not) I’m guessing a pandemic may reduce prices a little!
Cant say I've ever heard of it nor seen this car in real life . Nice muscle car looks at the front and I like the hidden but not hidden headlight thingy :) The jtd engines are great and Alfa's have a certain appeal to me , but have yet not been able to push me into buying one . Feels good to know , other people have their own opinion . Great colour btw !
Alfa Romeo has buildt on of the best cars ever ! I am proud to drive my 1300 GT Junior Bertone :) Fiat was to redesign the old bodies as exclusive sports cars and to produce beautiful bodies and environmentally friendly drive systems with high quality and environmental friendliness.
Always good to see the very rare Montreal! Time spent with a V8 Alfa (and one breathed on by Alfaholics) is always a good day. Not sure about your view on Peugeot, the company has improved quite a bit scince the noughties.
Yeah man these cars are really cool. There was one for sale here in SA last month, it was in bits, so perfect for me, but I figured I better finish the 10 000 projects I already have before I buy anymore.
Hey Jethro, thanks mate - the Montreal seems pretty complicated mechanically so would be a challenging project for sure! Enjoying your Spider vids - that looks tasty 👍🏻
One of my favourite Alfas, right up there with the GTV6 (and the Stradale, of course.) That small engine has no right to sound so substantial and meaty...but I'm certainly not going to complain. :-)
I remember when Montreal’s were £10k for year after year after year! Finally, and painfully slowly, the world caught up and started to really value these cars, wonderful! Sadly all I will ever own is a brochure and book, but at least stronger values have ensured the survivors are safer and worth restoring.
Hi Brian, yeah its my favourite Alfa but as my personal worth has grown, so has the price of Monty’s keeping them just out of reach! 🥴 Maybe I’ll sell my whole collection one day and buy one! 😎👍🏻
grazie Daniele - la Montreal è stata la macchina dei miei sogni d'infanzia, quindi è molto speciale per me. Una domanda per te: pensi che dovrei mettere i sottotitoli italiani nei miei video?

Great entertainment Chris!! I would love to see a vid on a 164 or 75? Saying that,it might be a bit painful to watch as I sold my cars a few years ago and deeply regret my decisions.
Life is full of difficult decisions Mark - selling cars is sadly one of the hardest. I am planning a 147 vid and would love to do a 75 Busso video too!
Even if it’s considered a valuable gt it was a sum of mistakes 1) Alfa Romeo had a state-of-the-art car ready... Berlinetta sperimentale Osi with 1,6 Giulia engine: it was enough to update it... 2) Gandini designed a beautiful bodywork for Bertone BUT shaped for a central rear-engined car ( like the Miura ) but the engine is front . 3) six long years passed before the project was realized it means when the front-engined GT were set, aged... a car born already aged ...so sad...
Like a Ferrari of that time, like engine and speed. But the suspensions were too similar to the Alfa Romeo Giulia...It was better the de Dion of Alfetta!! Howewer it's a great italian car (design!!).
I came across one of these sitting in a small used car lot in LA and a little later another in an even smaller used car lot in a small New England city sometime in the early 80's.(what were the chances?) I knew what they were (I'd survived ownership of a 2000 GTV a few years earlier, and seen Remie Juilen drive one in an otherwise forgettable movie) but my right brain over-ruled my left brain both times. I've had mixed feelings about that ever since. The exhaust note alone would have been worth the asking price.
Hi Donald! Thanks for watching and commenting - argh, these moments are sent to haunt us for years afterwards aren't they? They have been (almost) affordable for 30 years but now prices are edging up towards "Jay Leno" territory! I'm not sure I actually have a right-side to my brain - I can't produce any evidence of logical thinking in my car purchases at all! Cheers Chris

In my humble opinion, no car has ever needed a better wheel/tyre spec than the Montreal… the original has never sat well to my eye, it’s a little Italian muscle car without the muscle. I’ve seen Montreals sat alongside mustangs and despite looking way better than the stang, it never looked muscley… so if it were mine, I’d garage the original wheels and throw on a contemporary set of slightly wider wheels front and rear and maybe go up 1 inch in diameter, with a lower profile wider tyre… nothing too crazy maybe just an inch at the rear and 1/2 at the front… then it would be a very muscley looking unit.
Hi Simon, yes I agree - just a little chunkier set of wheels & tyres makes many cars look so much meaner. The Monty has some skinny tyres which disappear into the wheel arches!

It's probably my all-time favourite classic Alfa. Such a great design by the "Master"!

Hi mate! Thanks for joining us - hope you enjoy my stuff. What do you drive?
Loved this one Chris, my inner 12 year old has never left me!!
Cheers mate - glad you enjoyed it, I loved making it!
It’s been over forty years and I’m still waiting ......!
Nice video. My father who is from Haytor where this film opened, owned a RHD Montreal in this exact colour in the late 70’s.
Much preferred it to the Dino GT4 he had around that time too. No comparison he states. I’ve Wanted one ever since!
Hi Jon, thanks for watching and commenting. Its a genuinely exciting car and my all-time favourite Alfa. Prices are going up - don’t wait too long!
What a car and that noise is possibly even better than the busso! I've always loved the montreal.
Thanks for watching - it’s a fabulous piece of engineering and really quite special for me - it’s the closest I’ll get to a Lamborghini Miura!
(I understand it’s a great mall, too...Everything!)
I can’t think of a better channel to air your Alfa-Centric urban-explorations on...and obviously Arese will always be an Alfisti-spelunking fantasy!
Gain access...one way or another?
Thanks for the tip - maybe I’ll take a torch and some bolt croppers!
Most beautiful alfa ever made in my opinion😍
I agree, my favourite Alfa 🥰🍀
Reminds me a lot of a '71 Plymouth Roadrunner, Italian style, especially in that orange. What a beautiful car
Hi mate, thanks for watching. Yes, 1970’s is definitely my favourite era for car design: Italian, British and American. There is also something very similar about the grille and bonnet of the
1970 American Motors AMX coupe don’t you think?
@@TheAlfaNut yes, now that you mention it, I can see it too. The early 70's are my favourite generation of cars. The styling just does it for me👍
What a treat to listen too.
Just an Alfa Masterpiece. Thanks for the great video!
Thanks for watching, I appreciate the support 👍🏻
Just finished restoring my grey GT 1300 Junior stepnose in grigio chiaro metallizato with brown interior.
Bought it 3 years ago (at the age of 23) and finished just a few months ago.
I will never sell this car, especially because of the work done with my father and brother (none of us works as a mechanic by the way but the car turned out perfectly well), because it has always been my dream car and because I can't afford to have and keep two classic cars!
You are invited to step in it if you are in Switzerland one day:)
Greetings and thanks for the good content.
Many thanks for watching and well done for restoring the stepnose - that sounds great! I would love a 105 series Alfa, they have really hooked me.
Awesome video, great music and a beautiful car the only negative you didn’t drove the Montreal a pity thanks Chris !!
Yes I know but the car is very valuable so I couldn’t get temporary insurance ☹️
Its a pity...just for a f*#&ING insurance you couldn't drive it. Hope you do it in the future!

The sound of this beauty is pure joy and your face says it all. Well done mate
Thanks for watching mate, appreciate your comments. Shame I couldn’t actually drive it myself but riding shotgun was good enough 👍🏻
Along with the Lamborghini Muira by far most beautiful looking car ever made thank god for Gandini
I quite agree Arran - I think if Gandini had never lived, many cars today would look very different. I'm planning an episode purely about him at some point.
The Alfa Nut that sounds great I look forward to seeing that if you haven’t seen already there’s a great interview on you tube done by Davide Cironi it’s in Italian with subtitles

My seccond favourite Alfa! So jeallous right now!
Sorry about that Giacomo - what is your first favourite?
@@TheAlfaNut To be honest, it's not quite "fair" to say it is the favourite because there's a lot of sentimental attachment and it is a specific car, not a model. It is a 1931 8C 2300 Monza, car number 28. My great grand uncle owned and raced it, you can still see his last name on the side of the car.

Thanks for this, I've been waiting proper test drive for 40 years... :D
Hi Kimi, thanks for watching, I’m glad you enjoyed it - I love the Montreal so much 😍
This is my idea of having a classic car like this, trying to keep it as stock as possible but at the same time modifying it so that it becomes as comfortable and reliable as possible, power steering, electronic injection, and air conditioning and so easily we basically have the perfect classic GT.
Hi JR, thanks for watching. Yes this Monty has been very skilfully updated and improved, without losing any character. Its also quite a lot quicker! 😉.
God it looks and sounds beautifully ❤️
Yes - it's a special car for sure.
Thanks for watching Franco - don’t worry I have also owned and loved 3 Fiats: 2 x X1/9’s and a Strada! 😄
Yes, Alex’s Monty drive so nicely and has about 250 bhp, compared to 200 stock, so it handles and goes better. It’s just fabulous.
Beautiful car.
Hi Dimitris, yes it certainly is!
Wonderful car , my dream car is the Lancia Stratos
Good choice! I hope to drive a Stratos one day 👍🏻

I live in....Montreal, I remember Expo67 as I was 7 years old !!! Did you see Jay Leno's latest video about tbe Montreal ?
That must have been an exciting event? I have been to Vancouver and the Rockies but didn’t have time to cover the whole of Canada - its what you might call “large”! I found that Canadians had a more similar sense of humour to the English than the US guys do - more irony! 😄
Totally true about Canadians! I am a pure Canadian but my wife is from Brittany, close to you , just across the Channel !

Hi Rob, thanks for watching - yes it’s a lot of work but good fun as well. 👍🏻

Very nice video I ^m a bit jelous now,but glad you made a dream come true. Thanks to Chris as well.
Thanks for watching - it's not actually my car, although I wish it was!
Sigh.
Haha yes Michael - if only! 😉. Did you see the Jay Leno Montreal video just released?

Cant say I've ever heard of it nor seen this car in real life . Nice muscle car looks at the front and I like the hidden but not hidden headlight thingy :) The jtd engines are great and Alfa's have a certain appeal to me , but have yet not been able to push me into buying one . A thing from a real world.
Haha yes - no CAD design, just a clever man with an actual pen in his hand! Thanks for watching.

Maybe so but it's still my favourite Alfa Romeo!

Like a Ferrari of that time, like engine and speed. But the suspensions were too similar to the Alfa Romeo Giulia...It was better the de Dion of Alfetta!! Howewer it's a great italian car (design!!).
Hi Francesco - thanks for watching and welcome!

Ciao Flavio!
