How Do I Play CENTERSTAGE?

- This year's FTC game, CENTERSTAGE, is all about scoring, hanging, and launching. The AndyMark engineers have some thoughts on how to play this game and some advice for approaching the unique challenges.
Video edited on 9/11/2023 to reflect game rules accurately:
"Drones cannot be acquired once the match has started..." was cut due to GS11(a): Drones are pre-loaded ... or introduced into the Playing Field during the Driver Controlled Period via the Wing.

GS11(a): _Drones_ are pre-loaded ... or introduced into the _Playing Field_ during the _Driver Controlled Period_ via the _Wing._
Thanks for the correction! I've edited the video to cut 5:08 - 5:17 out.
@@AndyMark Drones cant also fly higher than 5 ft, so no high arc
Thank you for this summary!. Thank you for this summary!.

If your hanging robot comes down when power is cut after endgame does it count as a hang?
According to the Official FTC Q&A:
"To earn 20 points for being Suspended from the Rigging, a Robot must be Suspended from the Rigging when the scoring system Match timer reaches zero seconds (0:00) remaining in the Match. After the Match ends, the Robot may remain Suspended or lower to the Playing Field Floor without affecting the previously earned 20 points for completing the Suspended from the Rigging achievement."
So yes, as long as you are suspended as the clock hits 0, you should be awarded points for hanging.
Quick question. I’m a teacher at a school up in Alberta and I’ve been asked to teach robotics. I would love for the kids to eventually become competitive, but I don’t even know where to start. Is there a kit that is used in competition? I see that REV robotics seems to be the go to supplier. Are teams limited to what is included in the kit when building their robot?
the three main build systems are gobilda (best in my opinion), rev (good), and tetrix/pitsco (our team doesn’t like them). You should look at the gobilda or rev ftc starter kit!
@@eddyzow thank you so much. I think this year I just want to get them building and programming with the proper tools and then go see a competition in person so they have a better idea of what to expect.
@@eddyzow so the gobilda kit looks great. What software is used for the programming?
@@MrMcQuadeI suggest you checkout game manual 0 it is a great resource for this!
@@MrMcQuade the three programming softwares available to use according to the FIRST website are the Blocks Programming Tool which is similar to scratch in that it uses block coding, the Onbot Java Programming Tool which a little simpler than android studio and utilizes Java, and Android Studio which is most complex and also utilizes Java.

3:14 I believe they said that those mechanisms will lead to a penalty
Please keep in mind that we are not official representatives of FIRST and any official answers will come from the official Q&A. That being said, our interpretation of the rules (specifically GS07) is that robots may not grasp the stage door, or hold it closed, but mechanisms to open the stage door without grasping are permitted.
