It is a pretty confusing concept for the viewers too! I had to deliberately create a habit of always checking the date of upload and make some kind of a UA-cam timeline in my head. Otherwise I will always automatically think this person is saying those things _right now_ .
Every person changes in the course of 10 years or more, so if I don't pay attention to that I'll just assume things that aren't true.

I've stopped and started about a dozen times since then, not yet making it past week 3, but despite gaining a *significant* amount of weight in 6 years, I've made some progress with speed/endurance/ability to go up hills. Tbh it's an always mood for some of us. I have to tell myself "I need a haircut" every day for about a month before I will actually go and get it cut. Like I have to leave my house and have a 1 on 1 interaction with another human being who I don't know well. And usually I have to make a phone call first to avoid sitting in the lobby forever. I need a lot of preparation before I can handle that.
Seriously. After a year of hating how long my hair had grown (I needed a haircut before the pandemic) last week I took some scissors and cut a large portion of it off. Manifested indeed.

I have always felt the same way about my cousin who has always been closer to a sister. 2 years younger than me, definitely the big sister.
This is very much a big part of what I like about Hank and John. It's probably worth checking with my two younger brothers on this, but I feel like I've done a pretty good job of not getting in the way of them taking the mantle of wise older brother if they wished.

I used a vlogbrother video (was it the one when they announced Henry?) to ask out a crush in high school. It’s now been 10 years since I graduated. It’s weird to use vlogbrother videos as a sort of time stamp of my life...
I just found this video and it’s fascinating. I am a baby compared to John Green, but lately I’ve been looking at my past selfs with this kind of strange familiarity/estrangement
I must say, John’s vision board skills seem to be leveling up.
"Perch in the soul and sing the tune without the words and never stop" does not feel like it belongs on the same vision board as "MANIFEST HAIRCUT"

Considering that I was 7 years old in 2007 I’m obviously a wildly different person now than I was then, but I’d always imagined that after a certain point in ‘adulthood’ such dramatic changes stopped happening and one’s life and self were just...established. It’s pretty exciting to hear that’s not the case

Wow, I was 4 in 2007. That version of me never could have even considered this mentality.
You can absolutely keep it going. Never stop learning, don’t be afraid to try something new (even if it’s a small something). I’m 52 and I’m grateful I still haven’t run out of things to learn and try, and proud of myself that I still seek that out and enjoy it.
I turn 25 this year, and I 100% used to believe this! Reaching this age milestone has made me realize that the beauty of getting older is the pleasure to change. I always hope to look back on myself and think that I’m proud of the changes I have made within myself.

I love these brothers so much, they both have been so important in who I am today. Reading John's books has always been an escape, to a cooler world, to a world where not one of my problems existed and even so, helping me find myself and the aswer to said problems there too. While Hank has been teaching me so much this last year, through silly videos that carry so much power that they make me feel better when I'm on my bed watching TikTok for hours, and later having knowledge to share with my family at the dinner table. Thank you for being there, helping, teaching and making me cry a whole lot (including this video) ❤️

I've started rewatching all vlogbrothers videos again (as I did in 2012) so this is wonderful timing (and also a little tug at the heart to see those ANCIENT images in this video). It's so special to still hear and participate to your thoughts and community throughout this ever changing messy world.

I've been changing at a scary speed since i started college and am trying to love my current self as much as I love my old self in retrospect (because i also hated her back then). When you said "one of the ways you’ve stayed yourself is by changing” it made me worry less that old me is "dying" or the idea that I should even mourn changing just because i'm going through hard times. I have more hope that i will overcome them and learn to love myself at any time.
Also, I have not been watching vlogbrothers videos (and many other things i love doing) recently because of finals and college in general and mental health but I saw the notification for this video and clicked and it made me realize how happy I feel when I watch your videos (and sad because i've missed that feeling for a while now). I even missed p4a which sucks. But i'll definitely try to replace the time wasted by doomscrolling with doing things I actually love.

I’ve heard that a lot about the Harry Potter books but much less so about long running content “for adults” where the characters start off “fully formed” and feel less need to develop over time. Our culture doesn’t seem to give much value to adults growing over time, but we do!!

@@jacobschuck3468 I'd argue that most books without kids in them are about how adults evolve, and it's just when stories are told from a young person's perspective that adulthood seems monolithic and unchanging in comparison.

I found you John, when I started uni at age 45 and needed to learn history that school hadn't taught me. I found Hank when I needed to pass the 2 sciences for my Bachelor of Arts degree.
I am not the same me as 2013 me either.. You and Hank have a great deal to do with that ❤
This video just reminded me how grateful I am to literally have grown up with you guys. I started watching your channel when I was like 15, ten years ago. And I've gone from nerdy high-schooler, to confused college kid, to beginning my Master's in Library and Information Science this year (a little bit partly because of how you champion the amazingness of librarians, John). And your videos have shaped a huge part of who I am and how I think about the world. Happy to be growing and rebranding alongside you guys!

The concept of a corndog STILL alienates me as a Brit even though I've known about them for years.
As an American I feel the same way about Scotch eggs, especially when I discovered they're (allegedly) eaten cold.

I’m an American and it has alienated me all of my life! I like hot dogs. I enjoy cornbread. But, for me, they don’t go together - not even as separate items at the same meal.
I've been following along with vlogbrothers, all the books, and both of your other projects since I think about 2008 when I was 17. I've watched both of you grow and evolve just as I have. Although facing 30 this year I'm still a bit younger than you both, it's been comforting to see from you that at any age growth and evolution is natural. At 17 you showed me grown ups can still have fun and be silly, and through the years since you've shown me that really there aren't any grown ups because we never stop evolving.
I found Hank and John through the vlog brothers channel only about a year and a half ago, and I knew I had to go back and watch some earlier stuff. When I worked late shifts, and needed to nap in the daytime, I used to play mental floss list show with John as host, one after the other. Love you guys.

in 2017 i spent a significant amount of time watching every single vlogbrothers video as i caught up to the present. seeing clips from old videos is strange because i can guarantee myself i’ve seen them, but it feels like a fever dream
When I reviewed the manuscript for Jennifer Burek Pierce’s Narratives, Nerdfighters, and New Media book, I had the experience of thinking several items in the timeline were wrong. But it turns out that I found Nerdfighteria in 2011 and binged all the past videos. So everything before 2011 I experienced simultaneously in 2011. That means my memory of the timeline had things happening at the same time that happened several years apart.
Been watching y'all since 2007 and the change is a necessity as I have grown older. I think it is a good thing Hank is now a Science Educator and not just Musician who sings about Edward Spoonhands.

I recently had this epiphany of how much I changed from last year. Today, March 9th, is the one year anniversary of quarantine starting. When it stated, I was an Atheist, Liberal, Nerdfighter who knew nothing of History. Now I’m a Catholic, Communist, Nerdfighter who is an expert when it comes to History. This community is the one thing that has stayed the same in this past year
It is incredible and remarkable to see how much you two have changed and grown over the last ten years.

Gosh...I feel like even I have changed in the last year. And hearing this change is okay is good. I’m a different person than I was pre pandemic. And even precollege prenerdfightetia. I joined this community at 11 years old. I’m now 19 and it’s hard to remember a me before this. And I’m glad I’m changing. I’m better now. I’m happier. I’ve had dreams come true. I’m learning things I love.

The first thing I thought when you said your daughter doesn't like the cornmeal casing on her cordogs was, "Wow, poor Hank, that's going to break his little corndog heart." I guess I've been a Nerdfighter for a while though, corndogs will always be synonymous with Hank Green.
