The young pilot seems to have camera anxiety.....just like some students have when conducting assignments in classroom full of fellow students...some people like to remain low profile and in most cases they are more deadly..
Same thing happens to me.
A real vintage classic the MiG-21. It was one of the best aircraft when it first was introduced in 1962. I know some air forces fly them but I don' think they are in front line service certainly.

almost a 70 more migs of various variants have gone down since this interview of 2003 and till 2015...The mig 27 also has become very old and few mig 29,s have also gone down....

gone down means crashed.......pilots in some cases survived and in some unlucky cases perished. too loose young well trained pilots is the worse thing for any air force
maintenance and spare parts is the main concern apart from the fact that Mig 21 and Mig 27 are very old 2nd and 3rd generation fighters now
Cyrus Loves India thank you for the clarification, when you use the term "gone down" it usually in air force jargon mean unservicable, thus gone down for maintenance. The correct terms as you described would be, crashed, mishap, accident. it's always tragic to loose highly trained pilots in crashes not only for the air force but for the nation too. being as tragic as it is you have to give a lot of credit to the pilots a true testimont to their bravery, professionalism, to risk their live day in and day out in flying these outdated and unsafe aircrafts some paying the ultimate price with their live. The government should be charged with negligent homicide every time a pilot looses his life needlessly.
These old Mig ' s are not providing any capability to the IAF, except the capability to kill good, pilots they should be scrapped asap.
It's 2021, a recent crash has taken place and we have lost an experienced aviator. No I have not time travelled, nothing has changed

Pakistani here, so these are the young pilots BJP is using for their political adventures very sad already fan of abi but these are really brave and dashing pilots who fly a old machine for country despite risk factors they also know this ofcourse they are enemy but respect for any service man serving his country go to hell BJP
You know Shahzad India's GDP is many times that of Pakistan's but still our air defence operates outdated fighter planes. It is simply because of the sheer apathy and indifference of the political class. Otherwise our senior airforce officers have been strident in their efforts to make the politicians realize that we need more advanced weapons. The airforce's hands are tied because since India has a civilian government it is ultimately the political class that has to call the shots. They were dragging their feet till sometime back but fortunately they have woken up now and have entered into an agreement with another country for an advanced and more efficient fighter jet. You know they say better late than never.
Secondly, BJP is not using them for any political agenda. Most of the India opined and wholeheartedly supported the attack on the terrorist camps. So, solely blaming BJP is not logical. It was what, I believe, any government with a spine would decide to do.
And last but not the the least, I second your opinion that the soldiers should be respected regardless of which country they belong to as long as they aren't involved in any unscrupulous activities.

Wg Commander Harish sounds very sturdy, battle hardened and confident whereas the other young man's language and body language isn't totally convincing.
Anyways, time to retire MiGs en masse. Derive its combat supremacy and interceptor ability and apply them to newer ones in development but please save precious pilot lives. Fast forward Tejas MK-2.
+humungous09 While the younger guy was speaking, did you notice an aircraft engine sound in the background....? He had to talk loudly to adjust for the sound... We sitting at home can't make out the difference. But that affects the gestures. Also you must remember that English is actually not India's first language...every one need not be fluent in it....

humungous09 IAF should lay these Mig-21 pilots off without pay, while the scrap the entire MIg-21 fleet, its be better then to risk these pilots precious lives. once the replacement for the Mig-21 is operation in the IAF in about 20 years the way the IAF selection and procurement programs work, 20:years would be a safe bet. additionally the layed off pilots would be recalled to active duty as long as they are not in diapers by that time its would be win win situation for all conserned, IAF would save countless precious pilots from untimely and early demise, save tons of money in pilot payroll reduce their accident to an all time low.

This is basically a coffin Box. When it automobile is more than 7 yrs RTO doesn't registers it as polluting ecology energy .whereas these Mugs are more than 40 yrs. I have worked on it as an Aeronautical Engineer now retired have seen the up and down of the Migs. After break up Russia , spare parts procurement is a big problems. Migs are using sub standard locally made or inferior quality substitute resulting in killing of Pilots and aircraft being grounded. Wg. cdr Harish and Wg.cdr Thakur are forcibly made to speak positively so that opposition doesn't get the chance to play in any votes game. In contrast this killer Aircraft should have been boarded out a decade before.
MIG 21 is obsolete and are sitting ducks to modern surface to air (SAM) missile system. The MIG 21 is still in the IAF as on 2022 because India cannot afford the modern aircarfts and we have give something to our pilots to hone their skill even at the risk of their lives.

Flying junk, it is because of pilot skills that the aircraft is worth something. It is technology of the 60's, no amount of make up will make it anywhere near of what is needed in the present battle field. it can go only that much, it is well known. Pilots will naturally say it is a great plane, that is what they will say in public, but behind the scene it is a different story. India has to sort this out.
