I am from Taiwan, and you have absolutely no idea how it feel. People who can say "I'm from XX." out loud and don't even have to add "yes! XX is a country!" would not know how WE feel.
Mayday won't try to correct the host, or else the headline of the next day Taiwan's newspaper would have changed. and also you would never see "Mayday" appear in China ever again. you see how serious it is?
They are band from Taiwan. I am proud that we born and live in the same place.

I think no matter what, people knows that fact that they are from Taiwan. No matter what Google did, people all know the truth. I mean they are born in Taiwan and grow up in Taiwan, this is the true Taiwan Band because their band was not influenced by Chinese society but Taiwan society. This proves their true identity as Taiwanese Band. The symbol of Taiwan.

The host obviously did not do his homework and it is disappointing that a Global Marketing Director would make this type of mistake. Mayday is rooted in Taiwan and branched out to the other Mandarin speaking regions from Mainland China to North America. This should not be a political topic. This is about the basic respect of the artists' background.

Because the host said, "This is Mayday from China." which is equivalent to telling the audience "This is lady Gaga from UK." just because she is white and many USA people were originated from UK. It's like not recognizing Gaga's culture and her government does exist which is USA. So this host is not recognizing and respecting Mayday and their culture and their Taiwan government which is very unprofessional of the host.

Or maybe, the reason that they didn't correct it was because it might hurt the opportunities of the Taiwanese Entertainment industry in China as well as their own opportunities in China...
You have to remember, this is a very touchy issue. Just because a Taiwanese person doesn't say anything, DOESN'T MEAN THEY AGREE WITH IT!

If a person disagrees with "the misrepresenation of his or her identity" and yet remains silent in fear of losing profits over speaking out, then indirectly the person agrees with the misrepresentation.
The responsibilities of clarifying "where they are from" rest on the band, far more than on the host. I think the criticism toward the host is misplaced.
I understand the fans are relunctant to criticize the band, but truth speaks louder than passion, be fair, stop criticizing the host.

I can fully appreciate your concern and anxiety over the "Taiwanese" identity. But without any evidence, it's a bit "rude" to label Google as the reason behind the whole "Chinese band" episode. After all, I think Google is "big" enough not to be itimidated by whomever you have in mind over a band's country of origin.
Judging by the band's silence during and after the interview, I am afraid you might be in for a disappointment over this argument in the long run. Best luck to you.

True, we don't know what went on behind the scene.
But let's look at the fact: The band has a lot more to lose immediately, namely the profits and fan base in China. Given their ambition to become "a leading brand" in the Mandarin-speaking market, they simply can't afford it.
Google, on the other hand, is big enough to withstand the fall out, if there is one, by announcing a band is from Taiwan. I just can't image Google is demanding the band to hide their "Taiwanese" identity.

Hey people: The endless obsession over the "Chinese or Taiwanese" thing is a bit old and unnecessary. Apparantly the band wants to position itself as "a band in the Mandarin speaking world." They also emphasize "Music is the medium for communication among different and all people."
There is a Chinese saying: "The emperor is not anxious, but the .....are."
Just relax and enjoy their music. If they want you guys to fight for their identiities, they'd have said so. Their silence is the best hint.
