Also my first Budgie album. I thought the cover and pics on the back looked cool.
I went record shopping with a buddy. We'd never heard of them before. I bought Bandolier and he bought the self-titled debut album (also great cover art and a cool bio on the back)
I now have the complete official discography plus a few extras

    23) Thin Lizzy - Fighting
By the time that this album came out in 1975, I had been a fan of Thin Lizzy for a couple of years. I got into the band after hearing "Whiskey In The Jar" on the radio. I went out and got Vagabonds Of The Western World, the album that song came from not long afterwards. Nightlife, the band's next album was the first to feature the classic lineup of Phil Lynott, Scott Gorham, Brian "Robbo" Robertson and Brian Downey. The record included "It's Only Money", "She Knows", and the soulful ballad "Still In Love With You" featuring vocals by the great Frankie Miller and a stunning guitar solo by the legendary Gary Moore. After hearing those gems, I was eagerly anticipating Lizzy's next release, and I was certainly not disappointed.
Fighting was the first truly great Thin Lizzy album. The band hits its golden era here with the twin guitar harmonies of Robertson and Gorham providing the drive and power that Phil Lynott's songs really needed.
Opening with a strident cover of Bob Seger's "Rosalie", followed by the vibrant "For Those Who Love To Live", and featuring the defiant pairing of "Wild One" and "Fighting My Way Back", plus the swashbuckling '70s guitar bravado of "Suicide", the gorgeous, atmospheric "Spirit Slips Away", and the celebratory "Freedom Song", Fighting sets the stage for the following year's bust-out album, Jailbreak.
There's not a single weak track on this record, and I don't understand why it wasn't a bigger hit.
Also, the powers that run the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame need to answer why Thin Lizzy has failed to garner even a hint of their attention. Lizzy, along with bands such as Grand Funk Railroad, Blue Oyster Cult, Humble Pie, and Jethro Tull, should be locks for the Hall.
    1) Gary Wright - The Dream Weaver
    2) Emmylou Harris - Elite Hotel
    3) Black Oak Arkansas - Ain't Life Grand
    4) Bob Seger - Beautiful Loser

    11) Jethro Tull - Minstrel In The Gallery
    12) Angel - S/T
    13) Crack The Sky - S/T
    14) Rush - Fly By Night
    15) Grand Funk Railroad - Caught In The Act
    16) KISS - Alive!

Agreed, Lizzy are at the top of the list of overdue HOF inductees. Were you in the U.S. when you were turned on to them in '73? If so, bravo, you were one of the few Yanks with cool enough taste to clock 'em!
I don't know that Hank Williams Jr album, will check it out. A recent discovery for me is some swamp/southern rock from an old school rocker, Travis "Scratchy" Wammack, Not For Sale.

    #9 Heart - Dreamboat Annie
I almost made a big mistake. Until yesterday this album was not on my list. But after reading a few comments about it, I listened to the record and changed my mind. This is much more than a couple of hits…it’s great all the way through.
Ann Wilson has a beautiful voice. And she plays a flute like Ian Anderson. Nancy is amazing with an acoustic guitar in her hands. They both composed every tune except one which was “Sing Child”. Lead guitarist Roger Fisher and bassist Steve Fossen help with the writing of this near Heavy Metal gem. It’s the heaviest song on the record and Fisher goes through the Jimmy Page, Richie Blackmore guitar style, and it’s wonderful. Ann’s flute makes it sound a bit progressive like it was a Jethro Tull tune.
“Magic Man” is one of the greatest rock songs of all time. Ann sings great. Roger Fisher plays electric guitar dripping with sustain. Steve Fossen’s bass is very fluid and powerful. It’s quite a song !
“Dreamboat Annie(Fantasy Child)” follows as a pretty short but wistful introduction of the albums theme song. This is a beautiful song at just 1 min.
“Crazy On You” is the other great song on the record. It’s a funky hard edged pop song that is astonishing as sung by Ann. She sings softly on one tune, and belts it out with ease on another.
Back then in my teens I was taken aback by Ann’s beauty when I first saw her face. It reminded me of something that I read from history that I thought I would share.
What’s the line???…Well it’s from Christopher Marlowe’s play “Doctor Faustus”(1604) “Was this the face that launched a thousand ships/and burnt the topless towers of Ilium. (About Helen of Troy). Many of the songs have a nautical theme on Dreamboat Annie. I was in the Navy when this album came out; so I was just feeling the waves again for a moment. (After being on a rolling ship, the feeling is there with you forever).
“Soul of the Sea” with the sound of the sea is a terrific longer cut at over six minutes. It is in three parts very similar to The Beatles “A Day in the Life”. At the bridge it conjures up memories of Led Zeppelin songs of the past. Ann even sounds a bit like Robert Plant. Anyway this song sold me on the bigness and true grandeur of this debut album. I think this first side is a perfect 20 min of great music !!
Side two starts off with “White Lightning & Wine”. It’s a nice rocker. The rhythms and the lyrics flow so smoothly on this tune. It’s funky with a biting guitar finish by Roger.
“(Love Me Like Music) I’ll Be Your Song” is sweet and pretty. It’s simply a very good Pop/Rock song.
After “Sing Child”, which I have already talked about, comes another fine song called “How Deep It Goes”. It’s a shimmering beauty with strings added. There are a few orchestra touches all over this album which add to the warm texture of the music.
“Dreamboat Annie (Reprise)” is at four minutes the longest of the three theme songs. This one has a piano intro, and a violin & timpani finish. Sea sounds are added for atmosphere on this and a few other tracks on the album. One memorable line is “riding on the diamond waves, little darlin’ one”. Many of these lyrics stick with you. Classy ending to a remarkable album.
Overall I give this a five star rating. I was overwhelmed by this album yesterday. I can’t believe I almost left it off. I’m glad I could put it on my list of 31.

    Day 23 pick.
Hair Of The Dog by Nazareth. The title track opens the record and features prominent cowbell, a guitar/voicebox solo and vocalist Dan McCafferty spitting out the chorus of "now you're messin' with a sonofabitch". The rest of the band (Manny Charlton on guitar, Pete Agnew on bass and Darrell Sweet on drums) make a fine noise. Big riffing hard rock with Dan's amazing vocals - you can hear the influence he had on a certain Axl Rose. Another big Manny riff opens Miss Misery. More dirty hard rock, melodic but ass kicking. A cover of Randy Newman's Guilty is a complete change of pace. A country style ballad with slide guitar and electric piano and a fine vocal from Dan - surely one of the most under rated singers around. Side 1 finishes with Changin' Times. A Zep-esque riff and vocal line (play this and Black Dog back to back) closes the first side. Side 2 opens with another cover. Nils Lofgren's Beggar's Day segues with the band self-penned Rose In The Heather. A nod to their Scottish root's perhaps. Whiskey Drinkin' Woman is almost southern rock. County-ish, blues-y. The albums longest track comes next. The 9 minute plus Please Don't Judas Me. A kind of proto power ballad, that builds from a delicate opening to the full band backing a great Manny Charlton guitar solo. The album closes with another cover. This time it's a ballad made famous by The Everly Brothers. Love Hurts was a hit single all over the World. One of those songs that made folks all misty eyed and when they tried to hear something else by the band, they would've been scared off by Dan's 40 cigs and a bottle of whiskey a day vocals. Nazareth. One of the most under rated bands to come out of The UK in that period.

“Enchanting” is a great word for it. “Beguiling” is another one. I’ve known the two big hits since was a kid, but never listened to the whole album until about five years ago, and it brought a smile to my heart on first listen. I can’t help but think that three “Dreamboat Annie” tracks is one too many, but other than that I love everything about it.

My Day 23 pick is an album released on February 28, 1975 and recorded in 1974-1975 at Soundstage (Toronto); Record Plant East, Electric Lady and A&R Studios (New York City) and produced by Bob Ezrin I'm talking about the debut solo studio album by American rock musician Alice Cooper, Welcome to My Nightmare. The Alice Cooper band broke up by spring of 1974, with Cooper beginning work on his first solo project.[8] Cooper intended the music to be more theatrical than the previous glam rock focused records.[8] Alice Cooper's manager, Shep Gordon had a clause in his contract, that allowed the members of Alice Cooper to do a soundtrack album for a different label, other than Warner Brothers. As a result, Shep Gordon and Alice Cooper went to Atlantic Records, a sister label to Warner Brothers, to begin work on the album. Cooper hired Bob Ezrin, who had produced four previous Cooper records, to collaborate with him.[8]
Ezrin, Steve Hunter, and Dick Wagner had all performed on the Alice Cooper band’s 1973 studio album Billion Dollar Babies, produced by Ezrin. Subsequently, Ezrin produced and performed on Lou Reed’s 1973 concept album Berlin, including Hunter, Wagner, and Tony Levin. Reed’s band on his following live album Rock 'n' Roll Animal (1974) was composed of Hunter, Wagner, Prakash John, and Pentti Glan. Ezrin and Cooper hired all four members of Reed’s live band, plus Levin, to work on Cooper’s new album.[8] Wagner and Ezrin would co-write the majority of the tracks with Cooper. The cover artwork was created by Drew Struzan for Pacific Eye & Ear. Rolling Stone would later rank it ninetieth on the list of the "Top 100 Album Covers of All Time".[4] Famed horror film star Vincent Price provided a monologue in the song "Devil's Food". The song "Escape" was a rewrite of a song by the Hollywood Stars from their shelved album Shine Like a Radio - The Great Lost 1974 Album, which was finally released in 2013.[5][6] The ballad "Only Women Bleed", released as a single, is a song originally composed by guitarist Dick Wagner for his late-1960s band the Frost, with a new title provided by Cooper and revised lyrics written by Wagner and Cooper.[7] The remastered CD version adds three alternate version bonus tracks.
A sequel concept album, Welcome 2 My Nightmare, was released in 2011.In 2020, while being interviewed on the Bob Lefsetz podcast, Ezrin recalls that; Alice Cooper's manager Shep Gordon, had a clause that allowed the Alice Cooper band members to make a soundtrack album for another label. As a result, the album needed have a storyline to become a soundtrack, that would subsequently be adapted into a film or television show. Ezrin and Cooper came up with a story concept for the album, with Cooper telling the story of the nightmares of the character Steven.[8]
During the Bob Lefsetz podcast, Ezrin recounts that he and Alice Cooper initially created the storyline, in which a rock star named Steven and his mistress are on a private jet flying over the Rocky Mountains. The jet crashes, and both Steven and his mistress disappear. However, 28 days later, Steven emerges alone and unharmed. During those 28 days, Steven became a vampire and he now lives out his days as a rock star by day and killer at night.
The album was ultimately adapted into a television show called Alice Cooper: The Nightmare. The story behind Alice Cooper's Welcome to My Nightmare is about a child named Steven who has nightmares. The album's songs are meant to be played in order, taking the listener on a journey through Steven's nightmares.

Hello Pete and everyone. My choice for today is by one of the most commercially popular bands of all time, who have never been considered ‘cool’ by most music fans or critics:
    9. Eagles - One Of These Nights
The album includes three hugely successful singles (One Of These Nights, Lyin’ Eyes and Take It To The Limit) that are all great songs, but these aren’t my favourites from the album. Instead, I prefer Too Many Hands, After The Thrill Is Gone and the instrumental Journey To The Sorcerer. I also love the beautiful farewell message from Bernie Leadon in I Wish You Peace. Despite the arrival of the great Joe Walsh, I believe the band somehow lost some of their identity when Bernie left.
    10. Heart - Dreamboat Annie
    Nos. 11-30 (not ranked)
    Jefferson Starship - Red Octopus
    Tommy Bolin - Teaser
    Rush - Fly By Night
    Journey - self titled
    Thin Lizzy - Fighting
    Be-Bop Deluxe - Futurama
    Styx - Equinox
Rory Gallagher - Against The Grain
    Doobie Brothers - Stampede
    Supertramp - Crisis? What Crisis?
Deep Purple - Come Taste The Band
    Roxy Music - Siren
    Kansas - Song For America
Foghat - Fool For The City
Little Feat - The Last Record Album
    Wings - Venus And Mars
Jeff Beck - Blow By Blow
    Nils Lofgren - self titled
    Steely Dan - Katy Lied
    UFO - Force It
Favourite Live Album : Blue Oyster Cult - On Your Feet Or On Your Knees

I feel similar about Take It Easy as well, although I don’t think that about Desperado or Tequila Sunrise for some reason.

Day 23 Fleetwood Mac s/t (White album)
The arrival of Stevie Nicks and Lyndsey Buckingham in the band took Fleetwood Mac in a completely new direction, from a blues outfit to a West Coast soft rock band. Stevie and Lyndsey wrote six of the eleven songs on the album Stevie wrote one of the most popular songs on the record, Rhiannon, Landslide also penned by Stevie. Christine McVie contributed with Over My Head and the successful single release Say You Love Me. Favourite track is the rather brooding Buckingham song I'm So Afraid.
World Turning and Sugar Daddy two more great tracks.

DAY 23=THE SWEET= Desolation Blvd Hi friends. A real good album US version of album and the UK and their Sweet albums and such were pretty good. Sweet could always rock and with good tracks and pop and sweet stuff and all that that one could feel to love like I do, Especially this album.
    =============
Desolation Boulevard was released in the United States and Canada in July 1975. It was different from the U.K. version and included several songs from their previous album Sweet Fanny Adams in addition to the "Ballroom Blitz" and "Fox on the Run" singles. Different Desolation Boulevard in 74 for UK and Europe for their version, In this article of US version on vinyl Capitol release that I got. The band today Andy Scott is the last original member of the lineup on this album of The Sweet The albums later then differences with band members etc and different Sweet bands, The original members of this lineup have passed away except Andy Scott and singer lead vocals is Paul Manzi who being singer before with Arena and with Cats In Space and today in full with Sweet

I have the vinyl of the US album got long time ago still plays fine. Also have Fox On The Run 45 B/W Burn On The Flame. So love the tracks of the 45. Rock and rollin hard rock, By the way use to hear Fox On The Run in the disco club back in the day when dj there would put it on. course the club of one that I went to use to be more then a disco club and would have rock bands of other music when they were not having the dance nights. And before it was this club was a club with exclusive rock and roll music bands. So miss The SHE nite club and before Papalilski;s rock den which i had never got to go to. Too young but brother did.
As anyway the album is a rock classic Ballroom Blitz killer rockin track shuffle and The Six Teems rockin No You Don't a real love rockin classic A,C.D.C rockin I Wanna Be Committed. Tracks on side one written and come abut with record producers Mike Chapman/ Nicky Chinn. The classic first side then the second side with the bands own great songs. Sweet F.A. a real rocker also so love and barn burn rocker, Fox On The Run love it . Set Me Free great Into The Night rocker killer and Solid Gold Brass. great rocker. I give the album a 4 and maybe 4.5/ So want a classic of great rock album listen to this Sweet album. and Andy Scotts Sweet with new album they put out last year in 2024 Full Circle is out there. Pretty good. Still reviewing it. Take care and love hugs and prayers . Till the next article.

Both he and my daughter wanted me to show them how to play something cool on guitar. My youngest, then in grade school wanted to join in too. Perfect, I own four guitars. I set up chairs so they could all see what I was doing and put on the song "Stranglehold" It's a simple yet very effective riff. It was a struggle but they had the basics down fairly quick. They did so well that their next lesson was, "Mannish Boy" by Muddy Waters.

I got this album way back in 1975 for my birthday - a gift from my Mom. Side 1, the live side, is packed with highly energetic performances. Side 2 from the studio is chock full of classic Top tunes. Hey Gary. You lucky dog! You had a mom that bought you rock albums. I'm a little envious here as my parents were good ones growing up but they were totally against rock music. That went double for my father. Until this day he brags about throwing my record player out the window. (The offending record at that time was "The James Gang Rides Again".) I'm reminded of that story because I just replaced that album on CD a couple of days ago.

I got to see them touring this album at the PNE Gardens, Vancouver ( a 2,700 capacity venue)
They were the opening act, with April Wine being the headliner on their "The whole world's goin' crazy" tour.
I already had the Dreamboat Annie album based on Magic Man being on heavy rotation on the radio.
I was there to see Heart and they didn't disappoint. They ended with a killer version of Rock and Roll.
After their set, Roger Fisher (no relation) stood in front of us and watched the April Wine set. They rocked, and put on a great show complete with a confetti firing, chrome cannon as pictured on the cover of their classic Stand Back album.
I attempted to get Ann Wilson's autograph that night but she told me she couldn't at the moment because "If I sign one for you, l'm going to have to sign one for everyone ". I understood, but was disappointed as you could imagine.
I was later in a band that had the pleasure of recording at Mushroom Studios. A great vibe to the room and a killer echo chamber.
Great memories... unfortunately, as like a lot of great studio's of the past, it has been replaced by a block of condos 😢

Good morning (afternoon, evening or night), Pete. Outstanding SoT choice. Personal pick today? The sixth studio album released by this American musician and songwriter released April 1975 on the Shelter label - Will O' The Wisp by the artist born Claude Russell Bridges but better known as Leon Russell , the Master of Space and Time. All the songs are composed by Leon and this is more of a return to the style of his earlier solo albums but with a bit more maturity. The piano player in me was awed since Leon live in concert and watching him the the Mad Dogs and Englishmen movie. He had started to lose me before this release and actually did lose me for awhile with some subsequent releases but this album demonstrates a return to form and has some great tunes and apparent renewed artistic enthusiasm. Some favorite tracks? The languid wonder of Back To The Island; the powerful melody and playing of Bluebird; the gospel-tinged My Father's Shoes; and the single "Lady Blue" are just a few. Actually, the entire album is a great listen. The charts? Australia at 96 and the U.S at 30. Leon may not be for everyone but he is for me. Sadly missed since his death in 2016 but one of those rock and roll piano players that always mean a great deal. Thanks, Pete. Looking forward to your next selection.

Did you know he was also a fine guitarist; and he played a lot of guitar on that big Joe Cocker tour in 1970. In fact Leon was the one who saved Joe who had tour dates and no band. Leon Russel put that whole Mad Dogs extravaganza together. But then Joe Cocker fell into the same mediocrity trap that got Leon.

This is a real interesting one because Canada is when they got dreamboat Annie for those of us in the states we didn't know about it until 76 when it was released in the US.
So I guess when you rank your favorite albums from 50 years you can either put it this year or next year??!! Yes?
    Day 23
    Foghat fool for the city
After banging around getting a little radio play on underground FM Rock for a few years they hit pay dirt with this album.
To say everything clicked for him is an understatement
You not only had well let's just say a lousy a.m. radio edit of the monster timeless classic now Stoner anthem slow Ride
If you had a full 8 plus minute version that just kicked ass like there was no tomorrow and it still does to this day.
Lonesome Dave really found his voice on this one belting it out the title track full for the city, laying down a great Robert Johnson style terraplane blues just awesome slide guitar from Rod who would then be known for now on as Rod the bottle price
A very interesting revved up cut of a righteous Brothers song written by Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield my babe
did some straightforward deep cut album rockers drive me home
And the closer take it or leave it written by lonesome Dave and producer and part-time bass player at the time Nick Jameson.
Just straightforward hard Rock and what has now become known as blooze. Booze and blues style music together.

Day 23: "New York Connection" was released by Tom Scott on the Odes Record label in December of '75, when it entered the Billboard 200 for 25 weeks, reaching #42. Mr. Scott composed all the tracks on this jazz -pop fusion venture. With Eric Gale, Hugh McCracken, Eric Gale, and even George Harrison (on Apolonia (Foxtrata)) on guitars, you can be sure that Tom's saxophones, moog and ARP String Ensemble are provided with extra texture. All the songs are great here, but "Time and Love" by Ralph Macdonald, Laura Nyro, and William Salter stands out to me in Nyro's telltale energy as a songwriter and singer/composer that Scott successfully mirrors here in the arrangements he has rendered of this melodic tour de force. "Apolonia (Foxtrata)" also sparkles like a gem.

My pick for today is NEU - NEU 75. Innovative, experimental, challenging and far ahead of their time are the ingredients for the Krautrock bands of that time. NEU is no exception. This album is a compromise between two musical preferences. Michael Rother´s ambient, almost meditative style and Klaus Dinger´s proto punk outbursts, of which ´Hero´ and especiallly the primal and gritty ´After Eight´ must have influenced Johnny Rotten. His mean singing style seems indebted to that of Dinger.

Hi everyone, well, we're down to single figures on the list and firmly into my top 10 although, in fact, I'm technically into my top 11, and so today, with only a tiny bit of cheating, I'm giving you numbers 9 and 9.5 on my list...
    9.5 = AC/DC "High Voltage" (Albert, Feb.75)
    9.0 = AC/DC "TNT" (Albert, Dec. 75)
Of course, both these albums were only released in the band's native Australia in 1975, and tracks from both would be combined to form their first international release the following year, also called "High Voltage" although, a little ironically, more tracks were used from TNT than from HV, including the song "High Voltage" which originally appeared on TNT...
If, as happened with RUSH when I did their 1975 'twofer', I had to pick just one of these then yes, TNT gets the nod, but that 1st album is more than worthy of a mention, even if only as a sort of glorified HM. Despite having only 8 tracks, the album is only fractionally shy of 40 minutes in length, indicating that, despite the 60s rock n roll influences, the band were already happy to push beyond the 3 minute radio hit format, as on the 6.25 minute "Soul Stripper" and the 5.40 "Little Lover"...
TNT, however, is the real statement of what was to follow, kicking off with Its A Long Way To The Top, complete with Bon's bagpipe riff alongside Angus' as a nod to their Scottish roots, and then running through songs that would remain in their live set for years - The Jack, Live Wire, Rocker and, of course, TNT and High Voltage themselves. Factor in other fun tracks like Can I Sit Next To You, Girl? and a run through of Chuck Berry's School Days, and you have the basis of what would become world domination.

The title track has some Country elements. My Babe is frantic. Slow Ride is a long jam. Nick plays piano on Drive Me Home. Take It Or Leave It has some R&B shades. Nick plays electric piano on this song. I didn't pick Dreamboat Annie because it wasn't released in the U.S until 1976.

Hi Pete & everyone. Dave here. My pick today is HEAVEN & HELL by VANGELIS. What draws me to this album the most these days is what I think is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I know. It's So Long Ago, So Clear: an ethereal, sweeping melody featuring some of Jon Anderson's most gorgeous vocals and Vangelis' lush orchestral synths. If you like Jon & Yes and don't know it, I strongly urge you to check it out. Elsewhere, the album if full of grandiose instrumental prog and soundtrack type music (one track was used as the theme to Carl Sagan's Cosmos TV science shows). Vangelis plays synth and grand piano, aided by a very gothic English Chamber Choir. The quieter parts are quite haunting, especially 12 O'Clock, with the wordless female vocals recalling Ennio Morricone.
