- I've NEVER listened to anything from Teamin until now! Didn't know what the expect but I was still surprised. I've only done BTS reactions until now and while I love them, I wanted to try something new. Please comment any feedback or any suggestions for what I should film next!

Taemin is, literally, a legend in the Kpop world and for good reason. He's the youngest (maknae) member of SHINee, a 2nd gen. Kpop group that debuted in 2008. Taemin was just 14 when he debuted with them as their main dancer. He's never had formal dance training. Instead, he taught himself how to dance beginning at the age of 10 (Michael Jackson and his song "Smooth Criminal" were his inspiration), attended an open audition for SM Entertainment at 12, and got assigned as the main dancer of SHINee, also of legendary status in Kpop (still active, but on hiatus due to military requirements). You can still view Taemin's audition video here on YT.
When Taemin debuted he couldn't sing due to immature vocal cords, however that didn't stop him. With help from his SHINee hyungs, Onew & Jonghyun, two of the best vocalists in Kpop, and an extreme drive to succeed, he learned how to sing to the point that, in 2014 at the age of 21, he became the first ever SM soloist from an active boy group - even before his SHINee hyungs. We could say he is a natural talent and born for the stage. Still today, you can sometimes hear whispers of Jonghyun's voice in his vocals.
Taemin is THE dancer of S. Korea. Even professional S. Korean dancers have stated that his charisma, combined with his technical abilities, fluidity, and elegance all combine to produce unmatched skills. He's like liquid silver. A popping/locking master, Taemin can literally isolate each and every muscle in his body and pop/lock them independently. As an example, just take a look at this Super M promotional clip of Taemin: ua-cam.com/video/Qo18L3_Kc0Y/v-deo.html (I slowed this down to .25 and still couldn't take in all of it due to speed.) Taemin's precision in dancing often makes the dance look like it's easy, but when others try to cover the dance......yeah....while they put in a great effort, it's definitely not the same. No one can do Taemin.
"Criminal" is typical of Taemin's MVs. He's unique and extremely innovative and creative. With every MV/Song/Performance/Concert, Taemin is very involved and his fingerprints are everywhere. However, more so in this comeback than ever before. He personally chose the director for this MV (same one who did "Press Your Number" for him), and he worked very closely with them to get his vision across. In fact, the key change at the last chorus was Taemin's decision and Taemin altered lyrics & instrumentals for the entire album. He also teamed up again with Sugawara Koharu & Kasper to help him with choreography. They are all friends and know Taemin's taste and give him the freedom to alter the choreo as he wishes. Koharu has also worked with him on his songs, "Want", "Move", "Sayonara Hitori" and "Flame of Love". She calls Taemin the "dancer killer".
The concept for this MV is Stockholm Syndrome from the victim's perspective - Taemin; however, Taemin is also the perpetrator (the criminal). Basically, as Taemin has stated, he's trying to break away from his old image/persona and create a new one - "Destroy me more" (and make me even better, as though refined by fire). Right now he's leashed by his old persona ("I'm on a leash called you" - meaning himself) The process of changing your persona, the image that has been with you since the beginning, into a whole new identity is painful but necessary to achieve what he wants, which is to become an even better performer and artist.
The statue with him in the sign of the cross is a symbol of resurrection/rebirth - the newly emerging Taemin. Taemin is a devout Catholic, so his MVs often have a lot of meaningful religious imagery and metaphors. Taemin said the beginning scene, when he is down in the dark with the lava floor represents the deepest depths of his present persona. The lighter scene (in the white room w/the speakers) is the mid-progression of his rebirth. Act II of this 3-pt album will be that resurrection/rebirth. I believe this MV/song is linked to "Famous", also on Act I. The short explanation being "....being "Famous" may be "fabulous" but it's "dangerous" and creates a lot of drama, and Taemin wants "no drama". The requirements of fame (perfection always; flawless in appearance; always on top) are expensive (in personal terms) and can create an over-inflated Ego.
You always have to be careful not to take the lyrics at face value with Taemin's solo songs. They usually have dual meanings. Taemin talks about this concept in Taemin, The Stage, which dropped a few days ago. It includes the interview and the three performances he did. At just 27 and now in his 13th year on the stage, Taemin is greatly respected and admired throughout the industry. The idol of idols. During his 12 previous years in the business he's debuted four different times in three different generations of Kpop. The former CEO of SM, Lee Soo Man, calls Taemin the company's "Ace" because just about everything he touches turns into gold. This is probably why Taemin was the first idol Soo Man approached about Super M. And now, Taemin is not only a member of SHINee getting ready for a comeback once the rest of the members return from service in November, but also a soloist working on this personal comeback, and the comeback activities for Super M. Did I forget to mention that he's a workaholic? Anyway, I hope you will continue to explore Taemin's vast discography over the 12 years of his career as a soloist, SHINee member, & Super M. Taemin is a world-class performer and one of the best artists (especially dancers) in K-Pop. And...you're not too, too far from BTS-land. lol Jimin is actually in Taemin's Padding Friends (his close friend circle), and he's also someone a lot of artists (like Jimin) look up to. Also, Shawols, fans of his group SHINee, have been through a lot as a fandom so you will probably be hit with a lot of love and gushing over our youngest.

Taemin before Criminal MV, released a Prologue which is 2kids. Taemin wrote the song but above all there is no choreography but only frystayl. 2kids is connected to Act 1 ie Criminal. Taemin told an interview that Criminal is his destruction because he wants to destroy himself and you can also tell from the text, the lava in the floor, the statue, the burnt shirt and the world in here he was trying to stifle himself. Taemin will soon release Act 2 which will put an end to his new album. Act 2 will be as if he was reborn and he will change himself, he will show us something new about him. You should watch move and want from him. Taemin started in 2008 with Shinee. He doing solo songs for 6 years. He is also in Super M. He has so much to check out. His stage presence is also fire. You would be suprised by the amout of things I could recommend. Black Rose stage was so good. It is a Song from the new album. Look into it. He is one hell of an artist.

Taemin is just one of those performers that leaves you speechless every time he steps on stage. He was born to be a performer and that is one of the reason's why he has become known as the Korean Michael Jackson. That is also why, as one of the top two performers in the industry, and why he was made a member of SuperM.
Taemin is one of the most popular solo artists in Korea, as well as the youngest member of the legendary Kpop group SHINee. He debuted as a solo artist in 2014 and "Criminal" is part of his 3rd Korean solo album called Never Gonna Dance Again. It is part of a trilogy which starts with his prologue "2 Kids" and continues with "Criminal" which is part of Act 1 of the album. He will release Act 2 next -- we are still waiting to see what the next piece will be.
As Taemin said in an interview: "The two acts put together tell a story. ‘2 Kids’ is about growing pains and depicts the story prior to the story in the album. You can think of "2 Kids" as a teaser before the movie called 'Never Gonna Dance Again.' Act 1 shows a new side of me. I think it’ll be something you’ve never seen in K-pop before. And Act 2 is the end-all-be-all. It’s the ultimate level of intensity. ‘Never Gonna Dance Again’ was originally the name of the concept. Because it doesn’t make sense for me to stop dancing. But I wanted to give a sense of rebellion with the irony of the title.”

SHINee are a 5 member group that is known for their live vocals and amazing dancing. They are known as CD-quality singers because they sound just as good live, if not better, than they do recorded. SHINee always sings live. The ONLY thing they are not good at is lip syncing so they avoid it at all costs, so when you hear SHINee singing 95% of the time it will be live. They have trained their entire career to be able to sing live and always sound flawless while performing extremely complex choreography. SHINee is the group that really set the standard when it comes to live performances. It's literally known as the SHINee standard and it's what all other groups work to reach.
SHINee are known for the fact that they all can do it all. They are a group of 5 amazing vocalists, 5 impressive dancers, 5 visuals, 5 rappers, 5 top actors, and 5 of the most talented and unique voices in all of Kpop. And that is what makes Taemin so extra special.
You really should check out SHINee, and especially their live performances, because their stages are like none other. Their concerts last 3 to 4 hours straight and they perform nonstop and never sound out of tune or out of breath. They are also one of the best dancers in Kpop and they have some of the best harmonies you will ever hear.
If you know EXO, then you know how good of vocalists they are, well, the members of SHINee actually were mentors to a lot of the EXO members and they helped coach them in their singing. The EXO members and SHINee members are all around the same age and they were in the same trainee classes together, and yet SHINee debuted almost 5 years before EXO. So, that just goes to show you a little bit of what makes SHINee so amazing and why they are considered legends.

Taemin is a legend in Kpop, he debuted in 2008 with SHINee and is the best solo artist in the industry, he is different and considered the best dancer, the problem with Taemin and his groups is that despite having better voices and dancers than BTS , your company SM does not do the job of marketing well and that is how it is not as popular as it should be. (Sorry for my english)

Taemin is my absolute favorite dancer and singer too. However, I do want to recommend my second favorite dance group, Seventeen. They have a dance performance team as well as the larger group dancing together.

I recently discovered taemin because I got this mv on recommendations and listened and loved this song so much. I love his other song move and the choreo is amazing. Really sad that he is not known around the world he is such a great talent. He needs to change his agency forsure.

I'm never gonna dance again my ass! I felt the world go in reverse and it shook me to the core. Pleeeeease check out the stage taemin black rose it is lit lit lit as hell. Taemin is best friends with jimin from bts and Kai from exo. Three of the best dancers in kpop. Jimin and taemin had a kinda dance off on stage together you can see there friendship with this performance. Taemins solo stuff is more dark and sensual. Check out move, want, 2 kids, famous ECT. I didn’t see anyone else explain this, but if I missed it, I’m sorry. Taemin says this is a dark song about Stockholm syndrome. He is playing both the role of criminal and victim. This is sort of Taemin’s style... he likes light/dark and edgy concepts. If you like this, you should react to his “Want” MV. If you want to see more of his dancing ability... there are a LOT of videos that showcase that, but I suggest the stage performance of “Black Rose” to start with.

First of all, Criminal is not a love song but a song about himself. The concept is stockholm syndrome. Taemin is the victim and the criminal, and it is a metaphor on how much he want to breakfree from himself (his current image) but cannot because he is so much captivated by that side of him as an artist. Which is why at first he was dancing with his hands tied, then he danced more freely after removing it.
The "destroy me more" part can also be heard as "run away from me" in korean which symbolizes his internal dilemma. The catharsis will lead to his rebirth which will be shown in Act 2, his new self/identity. Thank you!
9:16 yes, the floor is lava and the dancers wearing red are the flames that are slowly engulfing him (which is why his white suit was burnt when he was infront of the maze hehe)
10:00 also yes, the hand of death took the card of time, symbolizing that his past/innocent self is running out of time-- because time for a rebirth.

Taemin is one of a kind. As you, I do love other kpop groups, because they're just AMAZING. However, the way Taemin dances, is unique. Beautiful. Jimin, in Black Swan gave me a lot of this sort of vibes (yeah, BTS always in my heart).

Taemin's musics are so dark, sexy, yet beautiful at the same time. That's what I like about him so much. You should react to WANT, MOVE, and Thirsty.
But honestly, this album and the previous (WANT album) are full of eargasm songs! You should put him in your to go playlist;)
