I have more random tips for hybrids. For a good design mix you can have the body shape heavily inspired by the dominant tribe and the scale pattern leaning toward the other tribe/tribes. For example, a rain/night hybrid with a rainwing dominant gene could be all thin and elegant while having nightwing plated scales and star patterns and such. Rounding out sharp scale patterns for a less rigid affect with dragons such as sand and ice wings, especially if it is mixed with dragons with rounder features (Silk, Rain, Sea, etc.) (This one's for sea hybrids) Making glow scaled reflect scale patterns of other tribe/tribes. (Example, circular on neck for sea/rain, Striped bands on tail for sea/hive.) And apparently hybrids inherit their dominant gene from their mother, so that exists. Sincerely, -The Guy No One Asked.

Ooo yeah! Sunny is a perfect example! She can easily pass as a Sandwing except some features are of Nightwings! (Like the lack of a tail barb) Darkstalker too actually! When making hybrid, this is what I usually do: The mother’s traits will almost always be dominant (I’m pretty sure this is canon in the books), with the mother’s facial structure, horns, and colors prioritizing the mother’s genes. The traits that pass through the father are the scales along the body, their special tribal trait (like the SandWing frill, or SeaWing glow scales), and the eyes and tongue (but this only really applies if they have SandWing eyes or are a tribe with a forked tongue). As for the weapon, there is a high likelihood that they just won’t express a weapon from either tribe, but if they do, it usually favor’s the mother’s. They will never have the weapon from both tribes, so no mind reading dragon with a poison barb. From my experience, this has made the hybrids that I make look fairly realistic within the canon of the series, and I personally think it’s a really solid system, but I will always bend my own rules here and there if the design of the character would just look nicer with a different trait :p
My favorite part of dragon hybrids is giving them cool powers. Take a night/leaf for example. They can have leafspeak that only works in the dark. A sky/sea can have gills, webbed talons, and big wings to swim faster in water. A sand/ice can have red-colored hot ice or blue-colored cold fire. There's so many possibilities!
I have a HiveWing - LeafWing hybrid named Locust ( having a duo meaning, the bug for the HiveWing side, the tree for the LeafWing side ) They have very very weak leafspeak, and they have a tail stinger, but it’s weak. They have an olive green color palette, being a dark version of lime-yellow, she has the webbing(?) that LeafWings have running down their back, but it’s between her HiveWing spines, and she has spots of green across her back, as well as some faint darker lines. She’s currently residing in Jewel Hive, with her girlfriend SunSpeck, a HiveWing shop owner, her mother had taken her back to Jewel Hive so that her father would not be found out by either of their tribes. Her father is dead though now, so *that didn’t work out as well as she thought it would, a HiveWing found him and said “damn, b y e .”* ahh this turned into a rant :/
I used to make up dragons and tribes with my friend, and he wasn’t much for making hybrids of more than 2 tribes because when I made them they generally were really powerful, and he want much for that. I like designing hybrids, you can mess around so much with their colors and body.
I honestly keep forgetting what day it is until you post videos. Also, I kinda created an Oc the other day. Its just a Nightwing and I just went 'alright, now let's add some red because I like red' 🤣
I just made multple hybrids, the first is Cactus a Sandwing-Skywing, and has fire powers because her mom was a fire scales and her dad was an animus. The second is Pine, who is a Icewing-Leafwing with frosbreath and leaf speak. The third is Starscape, a Rainwing-Nightwing, who can only change some of her scales and prefers to be grey, black, and purple. The last is Dragonfly, a Mudwing-Silkwing. He didn’t go through metamorphosis and was born with wings and silk.
I've made a few too. One of mine is also named Cactus. Cactus: a Sand-LeafWind hybrid that has a dragonet named Aloe! Which is weird because in the video ther is a hybrid named Aloe. (I was originally going to name her Venus, as in venus flytrap but i picked Cactus instead) Vermillion: a Sand-RainWing hybrid that is an animus and has 1 dragonet and is very dangerous to be around. Shore: a Sand-SeaWing hybrid that is an animus but doesn't know it. Spruce: a Sea-Ice-Mud-RainWing animus that has a Darkstalker kind of vibe to him. That's all! (I use a spinner to choose the hybrid, idk why it chose SandWing so many times)
@@Lotus046-old i also have a sand/ seawing named shore and im pretty sure i made her an animus as well. its been a while though haha😅and then before i got on my laptop, i created a sand/ seawing named Island and hes pretty cool. i havent decided on a color palette but hes an assassin, sandwing being the more dominant tribe
I like to draw triple hybrids. For example if a night/ sea wing and a pure sky wing fell in love and had an egg so than the baby will be a sea/ night/ sky hybrid but with a more visible sky wing appearance because it's a more pure or nature gene coming off the Dad, and a small set of gills that hardly work as well as having a darker color with more unique horns and claws.
Hybrids are like half the fandom at this point for OC’s. SIDE NOTE: I legit made a Leaf/Sea hybrid then I started watching you and I was like “Oh SH-“ But other than that.... I honestly love a bunch of the tribes and as long as none of my OC’s are Mary Sues I am HAPPY.
Hybrids dominant genes actually come from the mother Example: darkstalker So I like to pick which tribe I like most and then make that the dominant gene (the mother)
[cyprus begins detailing this at 5:45 if you want to hear it for yourself.] tips for drawing hybrids: 1. when designing, pick two tribes that are visually appealing and conceptually interesting [something that looks cool/sounds neat to you] 2. pick which tribe’s attributes are going to be more apparent [for example, will it be more icewing or nightwing? do you want it to have the scales and spikes of an icewing? what about it’s coloring? body shape? that sort of thing.] 3. find some new ways to combine their features. have fun :D maybe add some personal flair to make it unique. 4. color it with a good mix of contrasting colors so that it is visually appealing. [mood boards and reference colors are totally OK] 5. pick and choose what rules you want to follow [i interpret this as ‘have fun.’] hope this helps someone. also, personally i love vera’s design :D
Once, I made an OC who was a Night-Sea hybrid. This was before I knew anything about drawing. What I do, I am sure a lot of people do this, I pick a song and try to make my OC match it. Plus, I mix the features and make them more-- bold. Plus, it is easier said than done, because once I was scrolling through my recommended in UA-cam music for *TWO* *HOURS.* Don't do that. Sincerely, the guy who hasn't read the winglets.
ALso, when making a hybrid, I would recommend making it so that the dragon makes sense, like the parents would have ACTUALLY interacted. E.g., it wouldnt make sense to have a rainwing/sandwing hybrid because rainwings never explore, and sandwings dont think of rainwings often. it would make more sense to have a rainwing/nighting hybrid, though.
I made up a SilkWing (flamesilk) IceWing hybrid named Sapphire. She has pure white scales on her underbelly that blend into sapphire blue on her back. She has flamesilk and can breathe frostbreath. Her wings are also shaped like a SilkWing's. Parts of her personality is based off of my personality, except she is alot braver and better at drawing.
I have a tip , When you draw a hybrid keep in mind not always when the gene is dominant the dragon has to have EVERY characteristic for example : Sunny , her dominant gene is sandwing but she doesnt have a tail barb . keep this in mind because if you have a dom : rainwing Half: sandwing , that doesnt mean double venom . It means choose what venom not always because the dominant is rainwing you need to give it rainwing venom ( keep in mind .. this is just a tip , its not manditory ;) )
“You know those plants that aren’t exactly corals, but they’re all feathery and wavy and blobby and cool-looking? Yes, my knowledge of the world is astounding in it’s depth, applaud me.” You mean kelp?
That looks so good! I really like Vera's rich blue-greens, keep it up! Btw, if you like blues and purples, you could try drawing Firefly. She was mentioned near the end of book 6, Moon Rising. I believe I read somewhere that she was the child of Glory and Deathbringer. According to the book, she's supposed to be dark purple. Would be great to see some fan art of here!
I usually throw in what I like and what would look better when I make a hybrid 😅. Usually 50% of both tribes too I do have a skewing icewing, looks great. I like to put colors that go against each other together
This was so helpful - Thank you! Have you ever considered doing the Wings of Fire Hybrid Challenge? Also, what was the third hybrid you were planning on doing? Can you at least give the tribes? :)
Omg this helped me a lot! I wanted to make hybrids for so long, but I never really knew how to draw them. Thanks for uploading this cyprus! (btw your other vids helped me SO MUCH as well)
In wof canon, the mother's genes are almost always dominant! I prefer to follow that for my hybrids just to be closer to canon, but of course, everyone can do whatever they want!
An enormous pet peeve of mine is hybrids that look like someone chopped up tribe parts and stuck them together. I live for patterns, shapes and designs that look like BOTH tribes. A combination. That’s what a hybrid is, anyway.
For me somthing really cool about hybrids is that even if you mix the same tribes twice, u can still get two totally different designs. For example, Cyprus mixed sea and leafwing on two occasions (with Vera and Cyprus), but they look so different!
Eeee! I love your videos so much, you have helped me really improve in art and it’s my dream to be a small artist! I love watching your videos because I’m new and trying to find my art style and your speed draws help a lot for rough shapes and details! Please keep doing what you do!
my OC (Desert Oasis) is a sea wing, sand wing hybrid. I love your art!!! Perfect! I hope it’s ok but I got some inspiration from your horns so I’ve kinda been using that for about a month now. Love your art!
so im pretty sure this would work, correct me if im wrong, but i have a WIP rainwing/featherwing (fan tribe) hybrid. His mother is a rainwing and his dad is a featherwing so going by the mothers genes are dominant rule ive decided that he has his mothers camouflage scales and magical death spit, but his fathers feathery wings and feathers on other places such as tail instead of rainwing wings. would this work? also sorry im not very good with words lol
I have a Sea/Sky names Boiling which his name is kind of self-explanatory. He has fire scales much like Peril although they're not as hot (I like to believe fire scales can range in heat and some just have a unnormal warmth that can only burn if they sit for a while), and they can't breathe fire they do release smoke when upset (which isn't often) . He looks mostly like a pale seawing but his glow scales have a bit of a reddish glow but it just looks pale pink. Forgot to mention but his fire scales are controlled by his glow scales they are the center of his eat and they are what heat up his scales only when they glow, which can be slightly uncomfy for him when they were younger.
Hi Cyprus I have a question I want you to answer have you read the dangerous gift and if you have whats your opinion on it ?? P.s this question has nothing to do with the video just wanna know
My main OC is actually a sea-hive hybrid and I based her sorta off of me a bit. But something I haven't noticed is that I don't see many sea-hive hybrids compared to other tribes such as silk-night, or leaf-hive. Her most dominate tribe are the seawinsg but I still gave her some features like the four hivewing wings and stingers in her wrists. So just giving her like more of powers in hivewings but still keeping seawing form.
Kk two things. The dominant tribe thing, I think Tui confirmed the mother will always be the dominant tribe. Second, I thought you had another OC Aloe, like, the RainWing with the feathers and leopard spots?
I once made a Oc named Sleetwalker who was a Ice-Night hybrid. He looked mostly white but he had a black spine. He was able to breath frostbreath and fire, but they often came out mixed. So the fire pretty much melted the frostbreath and it became mist
I absolutely love making weird hybrids with illogical fusion features that would never happen. My favourite inclue A. Colour changing glow scales (Rainwing seawing) B. Fire/Ice spit (Rainwing) C. Sandwing poison on EVERYTHING, mainly icewing spikes (Sandwing) D. Coloured underwing stars acording to tribe colour (Red for skywing crosses yellow for sandwing ext.)(This one is less weird but still cool) E. Retractable Icewing spikes so you can still use your tail to swing And last but not least Webbing/Frills EVERYWHERE!!!!
When you said the thing about the corals-but-not-corals are you talking about anemones, feather stars, or brittle stars? Just the first things that came to mind
From what I've read in the books, the mother's tribe tends to be dominant. And I base this off the egg features and the ways they are incubated. Maybe not dominant in appearance, but certainly dominant in traits/attributes
One way that I like to figure out an oc that I made up is to play a game. Me and my friends always play made up dragon games and it really helps to figure out the dragons personality and what they would look like.
Rounding out sharp scale patterns for a less rigid affect with dragons such as sand and ice wings, especially if it is mixed with dragons with rounder features (Silk, Rain, Sea, etc.)
(This one's for sea hybrids) Making glow scaled reflect scale patterns of other tribe/tribes. (Example, circular on neck for sea/rain, Striped bands on tail for sea/hive.)
And apparently hybrids inherit their dominant gene from their mother, so that exists.

I just saw this and got SO excited! Awesome video (:
Love the designs btw
ALso, when making a hybrid, I would recommend making it so that the dragon makes sense, like the parents would have ACTUALLY interacted. E.g., it wouldnt make sense to have a rainwing/sandwing hybrid because rainwings never explore, and sandwings dont think of rainwings often. it would make more sense to have a rainwing/nighting hybrid, though.
This is so cute!! The hybrids are adorable!!!
*now furiously wants to draw the hybrids designed in the video*
ALSO I WANT TO SEE THE THIRD HYBRID SO BAD
I have a tip ,
When you draw a hybrid keep in mind not always when the gene is dominant the dragon has to have EVERY characteristic
for example : Sunny , her dominant gene is sandwing but she doesnt have a tail barb .
keep this in mind because if you have a dom : rainwing Half: sandwing , that doesnt mean double venom . It means choose what venom not always because the dominant is rainwing you need to give it rainwing venom
( keep in mind .. this is just a tip , its not manditory ;) )
Aloe and Vera look amazing! I can already imagine what it’s like on a daily basis with their names!
5th view. Also, Aloe. I wanna take her from the screen and make her my pet. Great job!!!
“You know those plants that aren’t exactly corals, but they’re all feathery and wavy and blobby and cool-looking? Yes, my knowledge of the world is astounding in it’s depth, applaud me.”
You mean kelp?
Yay this is gonna be an awesome video! I’m a few seconds in while writing this. (Edit: this was super awesome and very helpful!!)
Both of these designs are just ~chef's kiss~
So glad to see this week's video!
Would be great to see some fan art of here!
even though i dont draw hybrids a lot , this is still extremely helpful . Thank you so much!
I usually throw in what I like and what would look better when I make a hybrid 😅. Usually 50% of both tribes too
I do have a skewing icewing, looks great. I like to put colors that go against each other together
When you just made a OC named Vera but this video came out and you don’t want to seem like stealing
Rip
Jerboas: *Allow us to introduce ourselves*
Your OCS can have the same name lol
Rip
Names arent copyrighted. Or elsr Id delete like 4 ocs, 2 are named aloa(?), 1 is named Vera, and ones named aloe-vera(?)
This was so helpful - Thank you!
Have you ever considered doing the Wings of Fire Hybrid Challenge?
Also, what was the third hybrid you were planning on doing? Can you at least give the tribes? :)
Omg the coloring/color pallets are GORGEOUS!!!!
Omg this helped me a lot! I wanted to make hybrids for so long, but I never really knew how to draw them. Thanks for uploading this cyprus! (btw your other vids helped me SO MUCH as well)
It the kindest way i can allready see the compilations that are just you everytime you breath
I love the colors you use.
I'm french and i love your draw it's beautiful ✨❤️
Cyprus: APPLAUD ME
Me: Yes my queen!! *CLAPPING INTENSIFIES*
Hi Cyprus! I really love your channel, and you whatsisface's especially! I was wondering if you could do one on how to draw front-view dragons?
In wof canon, the mother's genes are almost always dominant! I prefer to follow that for my hybrids just to be closer to canon, but of course, everyone can do whatever they want!
I love how cute you're style and designs are!!
I love the art and especially the coloring and shading.
I think that Veras like all out colors ae just so soothing to me and Aloes is just like so seawing looking to me
An enormous pet peeve of mine is hybrids that look like someone chopped up tribe parts and stuck them together. I live for patterns, shapes and designs that look like BOTH tribes. A combination. That’s what a hybrid is, anyway.
y e s a l l t h e h y b r i d s Y E S
I'M OBSESSD omg they're so pretty!!
I LOVE THESE THEY R THE BEST HYBIDS IVE SEEN
For me somthing really cool about hybrids is that even if you mix the same tribes twice, u can still get two totally different designs. For example, Cyprus mixed sea and leafwing on two occasions (with Vera and Cyprus), but they look so different!
These look great, keep up the good work!
These 2 are amazing! Amazing job
Eeee! I love your videos so much, you have helped me really improve in art and it’s my dream to be a small artist! I love watching your videos because I’m new and trying to find my art style and your speed draws help a lot for rough shapes and details! Please keep doing what you do!
Wow there so pretty😍
Aloe is my favorite!
I love pastel colours, blue and yellow for the most part. Which two dragons shall I use to get that colour pallet?
Maybe Sandwing and Icewing?
Thanks so much!
you're honestly the best artist I've ever seen make more amazing art the world needs more color
my OC (Desert Oasis) is a sea wing, sand wing hybrid.
I loove a good OC...
and this, is one of them! (also, the seawing mum really like exploring. and not marrying her own tribe...)
Oh hi, just wanted to say hi and I love ur videos
I love drawing dragons because they don't exist so you can get so creative.it has no expectations or a specific way you must do it💙
Hi Cyprus I have a question I want you to answer have you read the dangerous gift and if you have whats your opinion on it ??
P.s this question has nothing to do with the video just wanna know
those dragons look awesome!!!!
YESS FINALLY SOME GOOD CONSIDERATION FOR HYBRID GENETICS!
I never expected a WOF UA-camr to imply punnett spuares
My main OC is actually a sea-hive hybrid and I based her sorta off of me a bit. But something I haven't noticed is that I don't see many sea-hive hybrids compared to other tribes such as silk-night, or leaf-hive. Her most dominate tribe are the seawinsg but I still gave her some features like the four hivewing wings and stingers in her wrists. So just giving her like more of powers in hivewings but still keeping seawing form.
They’re so pretty :D
OH MY GOODNESS ALOE IS BEAUTIFUL
Hey Cyprus! I like Aloe and Vera. Aloe’s my favorite because she’s so happy and GLOWY.
VERA IS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL HYBRID I AM DEADDD
Hi :)
I love your art and also WHY DONT YOU HAVE A MILLION SUBS YET? WHAT IS WITH THESE PEOPLE >:0
Kk two things. The dominant tribe thing, I think Tui confirmed the mother will always be the dominant tribe. Second, I thought you had another OC Aloe, like, the RainWing with the feathers and leopard spots?
@@cyprusdraegon oh ok! That makes sense
I once made a Oc named Sleetwalker who was a Ice-Night hybrid. He looked mostly white but he had a black spine. He was able to breath frostbreath and fire, but they often came out mixed. So the fire pretty much melted the frostbreath and it became mist
yessssssss
WAIT a minute spiral patterns on the wings?! They're PRINCESSES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Aloe and Vera? Like Aloe Vera? LOL!!! I love it sooo much ahh!
THese are beautiful! I love them!
I absolutely love making weird hybrids with illogical fusion features that would never happen. My favourite inclue
A. Colour changing glow scales (Rainwing seawing)
B. Fire/Ice spit (Rainwing)
C. Sandwing poison on EVERYTHING, mainly icewing spikes (Sandwing)
D. Coloured underwing stars acording to tribe colour (Red for skywing crosses yellow for sandwing ext.)(This one is less weird but still cool)
E. Retractable Icewing spikes so you can still use your tail to swing
And last but not least Webbing/Frills EVERYWHERE!!!!
When you said the thing about the corals-but-not-corals are you talking about anemones, feather stars, or brittle stars? Just the first things that came to mind
I LOVE HYBRIDS SO MUCH
From what I've read in the books, the mother's tribe tends to be dominant.
Okay *these designs are E P I C*
Hey I love your videos and I'm wondering if you can do a sanding icewing hybrid so I can get some inspiration
lil compliment right here: I LOVE YOUR VOICE! i don't care how fruity it sounds
