Hope this inspires you to try this out! Oopsies - I did make a tiny mistake about Luxembourg! It is not in Germany its a small country! And 6 is in Turkey! I am human, it happens
And number 3, 4 and 5 are in Turkey too, as Antalya (Nr. 6) is. It is a little bit irritating for me that from far away Florida these so extremely different countries of Europe can become so blurred. But I can talk, I live in Germany, which has so many neighboring countries with so many languages (even Lëtzebuergesch, the language only spoken in Luxembourg) an I also work in the intercultural field, so it's so present to me... but I've never been to the USA.
@@eva_unrasti thought the same as fellow European. I guess if you compare whole Europe just to the USA, it's tiny, so the countries within are even tinier 🤷♀️
This seems like a really great exercise to practise urban sketching before actually going outside, I love that you used so many different mediums too ❤
Little Disclaimer: Luxembourg is in Luxembourg not in Germany. But to be fair, the country is so small that mistaking it can happen ☺💙 Will continue watching now 🙈
The country of Luxembourg has approx. 640 000 residents, while the city of Berlin has 3.75 millions, Munich has 1.5 millions and Hamburg has 1.89 millions. You can mix things up if you compare that!
@@artofjesskarp In the end it doesn't matter, where the places are, you did a wonderful job on drawing them and are a big inspiration as always. Lot of love
I love your work. You are amazing and I see your videos for your art, but if I would say Whasington, Mexico, you would be quite 😮😮😮. That is what you said. European Investment Bank. European Commission (different services) European Prosecutor's Office. EU Publications Office. European Parliament (General Secretariat) European Court of Auditors. Court of Justice of the EU. All of these institutions are in Luxembourg. It’s not a matter of size, it’s a matter of respect to other people, other country, other continent.
@@linca5084 In the end, it _does_ matter - especially to the people who live in these places! I know of a lot of people who live in Great Britain and Northern Ireland who get *extremely* frustrated about being referred to as "English, or "Oh, so you're from England", or for hearing Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland being referred to as 'England.' (especially by American and French tourists - probably the most 'guilty' ones.) I also know people who aren't happy about being told, "Isn't Belgium part of France?" or "Isn't Luxembourg part of Germany", and so on. So *yes* it does matter that we get these things right! It just shows ignorance not to do so - especially for people from other parts of Great Britain and Northern Ireland!
I love this sketchbook practice - the Google Earth urban sketching idea is great. And consciously choosing a color scheme, the way you use hatching. Thanks for posting so much inspiration.
Every time I watch your videos I’m so inspired. I really do need to add sketchbook drawings into my daily routine. I love watching yours I know I’ll love making my own too!
I love the point about letting go of perfection. The sketches are all amazing, but I' looking at the pens. Oooo, can't possibly do this without those pens. No, no. Use what you have. All parts of my internal monolog.
i use to use this program all the time year ago for sketching. sometimes you wouldnt find anything to sketch for a bit but was still cool exploring the world😀
I absolutely love this I have. 7 month old and I’m 19, 20 in January and this gives me motivation to just do simple drawings instead of going so deep into acrylics which take forever to clean up and do
Jess, you don't know how much I am getting jealous from you because you are for me the perfect creator, the perfect artist I love how you are thinking about Art how are you enjoying doing art I love everything you do with your art. You are amazing. I love you so much.❤

I immediately recognized your first pick. I go there quite regularly, as my brother lives in Luxembourg. And I’ve even eaten at the restaurant (brasserie Lorraine) with the red awning! The orange building in your drawing. Don’t remember what I had, but it was tasty. So I did pull a face muscle when you said the city Luxembourg in Germany, but you’ve already been corrected, so I’ll let it slide. 😂 I’ve done this myself, even from a street in my own village. We have very cute farmhouses here (the south of the Netherlands, Limburg), but I didn’t feel comfortable setting myself up across to look at someone’s house for too long. 😅
Hullo Jess, this is an excellent example of using the tools for expanding your references and choices available to the artists of today! You 😅given excellent examples once again giving your viewers and followers a starting point for urban sketching without being in an urban environment! Thank you for sharing this video of your sketching processes!
I wrote this comment in the middle of watching. But now I want to add: your color choices are so... bold! It makes all these pieces absolutely stunning!
Urban Sketching is drawing on location, not from photos. It’s not even a good way to practice as drawing from direct observation on the street is different. However it IS a fun way to travel and sketch virtually. Gage Academy in Seattle hosts a monthly Zoom session using Street View that’s free and open to anyone on 1st Thursday mornings. I’ve enjoyed so many videos on this channel. This was fun, too.
Yes!! I agree. I know it is drawing on location, I have some videos drawing directly on location and love it! but many viewers are beginners and are a bit nervous to sketch in public at first so I think this is a nice way to dip your toes in the water. And just get excited about a location and give it a try to learn foundations like perspective etc. thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback!
I notice that you used pilot pens a lot in those particular sketches. I always preferred pilot pens over the usual drawing pens that most artists who do pen and ink use. You are the first artist I noticed who uses them as well. Whenever I mention that to other artists, it always comes as a surprise for them; it seems few use pilot or uniball for sketching. Thank you for another inspiring video!
It's funny because I used to use them so much to doodle in school but never even considered that they work so well that I can literally use them for drawing 😅
There are so many good tips that I would've never thought of. Using google earth for references is so smart. And I love that you started by setting intentions for what you want to do. I never do that and I think that would help a lot with my decision paralysis. I could go on but basically, this was Super helpful and you got a new subscriber 😁
