  • As a leader in the field, Scott Kelby shares why and how we retouch photographs. Kelby emphasizes that the real job of photo retouching is to make people look as good in photographs as they actually do in real life.
Scott Kelby is Editor, Publisher, and co-founder of Photoshop User magazine and is co-host of the influential weekly photography talk show, The Grid. He is also President of KelbyOne, an online educational community teaching Photoshop, Lightroom and Photography.
Scott is a photographer, designer, and an award-winning author of more than 60 books, including The Digital Photography Book, parts 1 - 5, The Adobe Photoshop Book for Digital Photographers, Professional Portrait Retouching Techniques for Photographers, The Lightroom Book for Digital Photographers, and Light It, Shoot It, Retouch It. The first book in this series, The Digital Photography Book, part 1, has become the top-selling book on digital photography in history.

Great talk indeed with a good message.
The camera work was a bit weird, as they did show Scott from various angles, but did not show the first few photos he talked about.

The message in the last minute is a great measure against vanity and ocd regarding one's looks. Parents bringing up their children with this mentality could help society get better. Think of anorexia, envy of appearance, consumerism etc. This would not nullify their effect, but it would certainly help.

Great talk, powerful message. Couple things though: I bet Christie Brinkley is glad she doesn't wake up looking like Cindy Crawford. TEDx should have better videographers and editors - stay focused and, if the presenter is showing something on a screen, then show us the damn screen. Jeesh!

Another ad for Photoshop. I shoot film. Make each exposure like it is the last one.
I don't like sitting at a computer doctoring images. I don't like to make images that require retouching.

I get what you're saying, but I work as a retoucher for an apparel company, and we go through hundreds of products a day, maybe even thousands, all on model. When you're working in such a situation retouching in literally a necessity as they don't have time to be perfectionists

You know you could also shoot digital, expose the image how you want to expose and not have to edit, it's not mandatory that you do it

Horrible videography! The guy is referring to photographs but most of it is not shown.

I don't agree with this because opinions are illegal
