Founded and managed by the Melbourne Cricket Club, with 95,000 seats and an additional 5,000 capacity in standing room for a total of just over 100,000
I have seen it packed full for Ed Sheeran!!! Biggest concert in the MCG history and Ed’s biggest concert!!!
Melbourne is known as the sporting capital of the world for a reason. Melbourne has the best sporting facilities in the world. Athletes from every corner of the globe love competing in Melbourne
Bay 13 is where the mischief and shenanigans happen when the Cricket is on there 😂
Ohhhh lol
The tennis centre hosts the Australian Open in January, one of the 4 Grand Slams. There's also a big lake between there and the Bay, which is where the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix is. The MCG hosts the AFL in winter and cricket in summer. In 1956 it hosted the Olympics, and the Australian Sports Museum is within the stadium, hence the multi sports displays.
Boxing day Test matches at MCG is a world on it's own
The section where you saw the different sports was inside the MCC Members area. Melbourne Cricket Club owns the MCG, and there are around 130,000 members of the MCC, with a 20 or so year waiting list to be a member. The MCC have a number of affiliate sporting clubs under the MCC name, including the mighty Melbourne Football Club - the photos there for football is all about Melbourne Demons. A number of teams have MCG as their home ground, but Melbourne has been there for the longest, since 1858. Richmond went to the MCG in the late 60s, and Collingwood and Hawthorn in around 1999/2000, all when they outgrew their suburban grounds. They all lease the MCG, but because Melbourne is part of the MCC it is literally our home. The Melbourne offices are in the Shane Warne Stand, near Gate 6, and the Demon Shop is on the Brunton Avenue side of the stadium, under Gate 6.
Been to the ground 100s of times plus multiple grand finals. Best upbringing by my parents. Glad I got to see even normal home and away games with crowds exceeding 80+ at the home of sport in Oz!
There is no feeling like the roar of the crowd at the first bounce of a Grand Final at The 'G.
I love the “G”. It used to be my team’s home ground but now we are at the Marvel Stadium (you could visit that) on the other side (west) of the Melbourne CBD (all those skyscrapers comprise the Central Business District). It has certainly changed from my first AFL Grand Final in the 1950’s. Last year I had two grandchildren lead teams out onto the field. My grandson lead the Hawthorn Hawks onto the field and my granddaughter the Richmond Tigers. Those fans were definitely Tigers fans. My daughter’s American company are major sponsors at Richmond.
i was at the MCG only 2 weeks ago 93,000 people there
I love how every seat you went to was the best seat, then you went behind the goals and realised that that was the best seat! It is a fantastic stadium, i saw a cricket match there mid nineties whilst half the stadium was demolished in preparation to build the current version. That was a great sight!
Some of the statues are from athletes who were in the 1956 Olympics that was held in Melbourne at the MCG, they play both cricket and Australian football (AFL). The stadium now hold 100,000 people and is the biggest stadium in the southern hemisphere.
That Aerial View is the Olympic Park Precint. Established in 1956 for the Melbourne Olympics. It has been upgraded and added to over the years. I remember the 1956 Olympic Pool being used for our inter-school Swimming Competition in 1968. That complex is now the Headquarters for AFL Team Collingwood.
Melbourne has a sports precinct (soccer, tennis basketball) all walkable to the city and FI racetrack at Albert park lake is just on other side. 122,000 were at a game here in 1970 between the pies and blues and I was there for that and last years grand final with 100,000. The MCG held the first test cricket match between England and Australia in 1877, the first AFL "footy" game was held on the very ground that the MCG is built on. Olympics were held here in 1956. MCG was built in 1856 and had rebuilt many times. Both Rugby leage and union soccer games played here as well as concerts Taylor Swift had her biggest Eras concert here 96,000 and Ed Sherin 109,500 also played here. It is LOVED by Melbourians.
Not being picky but it was not AFL that is the major league ,the code is called AUSSIE RULES so many people now forget it and the AFL organisation never mention the code they play , they think they are the code such arigance !
@philiphemphill4980 not being picky but it's spelt arrogance.
I've been to the G quite a few times for both boxing day tests and AFL, a memorable moment was, a long time ago now, but went to the G to watch the ANZAC Day match between my beloved Bombers and the Pies....100k people that day, absolutely incredible.
The roar of the crowd in over 90,000 people at the MCG, actually rattles your chest. Try VR in the mountain ranges north of Melbourne - called the Dandenong Ranges, or the Yarra Valley. The ship you saw goes to the island state of Tasmania (the island at the bottom of Australia on maps) and yes, you can take your car. If you want to see a spectacular beach, go to Wineglass Bay, Tasmania.
Melbourne is the largest and capital city of the state of Victoria. You were previously asking about what Victoria is. You should definitely check out Sydney. Most oval stadiums in Australia are multi-purpose where the main sports played are Australian rules football (AFL) in the winter and cricket in the summer. The summer Olympics and Commonwealth Games have been hosted at the MCG. Occasionally other sports are played here too. Popular artists will also have their concerts here. Last major musician was Taylor Swift earlier this year.
I live 20 minutes away and have only been there once in 70 years, and that was with a friend who bought tickets for a cricket match. My G G Grandfather made model airplanes and would fly them with others here in the early 1900s
The AFL Grand final is played here to a crowd of up to 100,000 people.
No one can explain to you quite how electric the atmosphere is with 100,000 people at the G for the Granny, you have to experience it to understand it.
you can watch the AFL grand final on the last Saturday in September. you will love it.
You needed to check out more of the MCC section - The Long Room and other member’s bars like Frank Grey Smith.
Oh and the MCG is the traditional home ground for Melbourne (AFL Club)
Among the Tennis Courts built for the Australia Open, or I should say opposite, is another Football/Cricket Ground and a large covered stadium with GLASS at each end. It used to be the 1956 Olympic Swimming Pool. Stadiums just evolved over time. Worth visiting and perusing the History of it all. I grew up in Melbourne.
they play cricket and VFL
Yup, LaCrosse played here in Australia. My sisters 3 sons played LaCrosse in Victoria for years, then one got picked to go to America and Canada to play, many years ago. My sister went as well as she was involved in the club as well. I was forced to watch it lol. Other girlfriend’s son got scholarship to play baseball at college in USA, he now coaches a local baseball team here.
Oh we are at the MCG, I born and bred in Melbourne and I’ve never been to the MCG, honest 😂
Imagine being in a stadium during a game with VR
7:32 been there, on the turf, in the lead up to a rugby state of origin match in 1995, when they were celebrating 50 years anniversary of the end of WW2.
I’ve only been to the MCG once for a tigers game. It really is a site to behold when your inside.
The MCG is the best stadium in the country it's our modern day coliseum
Optus stadium is pretty epic, and as far as rectangular stadiums go, the new Allianz stadium in Sydney is fucking epic. Even Western Sydney Stadium is incredible. Only holds 30,000, but when it was full for a Sydney derby with the whole crowd chanting etc it was fucking amazing!
Billy Graham convention held to record attendance for the MCG for decades.
Something we should be very embarrassed by.
It is Stadium Heaven. The Melbourne Sports Precinct is the Centre of the Sporting Universe. Magicland, the place of Dreams.
Great to see. The Tennis is the Rod Laver. Where Australian open is Grand Slam. Also used for basketball. I live in Melbourne but couldn't afford to live in East Melbourne. PS MCG hosted the 1956 Olympics.
The ground rocks , literally.
Last year the AFL Grand Final there were 100,024 people.
😊 look at the 2016 Grand final that's showcases the grand final at the MCG
there is also Marvel stadium as well which is impressive as well
Melbourne was voted The World's most livable city 7 years in a row.
MCG is our church. Blow the siren and we are there, praying.....for our team to win.
I went to ED SHEERANS biggest concert ever at the G! (MSG!) was absolutely incredible!
I also saw guns n roses there!
SO EXPENSIVE LIVING IN AUSTRALIA 🇦🇺 our mortgage went from $350 a week to 500 a week in 12 months, and groceries went from 180 to 300 a week!
The MCG is in Melbourne the capital of the state of Victoria.
@12:42 thats where i sat but it was on the otherside of the score board
Best days to be there . AFL Grand Final or the best of all . The First day of the Boxing day test
Nah best spot is up high, in the middle so you can see both goals!
Yes it’s a sport museum 😂😂
Check out the tennis kids activities at the Australian open .you went into it for a second l think its pritty good. my son has VR ..l live in the western side of Melbourne my son lives in eastern side .the MCG is huge 100,000 seats.oz open tennis is good 4 stadiums have roofs .as long as the close they roof before rain play continues.
Victoria is the sporting capital of the world. Pretty epic setup. On Aussie city that has an F1 race, one of the four grand slams in tennis, the most attended domestic sport by capita in the world (also the greatest sport in the world, AFL). They don't fuck around. Fuck Melbourne, Sydney is where it's at. 😂
MCG Crowd Capacity is 100,000. Somebody that cares more will correct me on that !!
Founded and managed by the Melbourne Cricket Club, with 95,000 seats and an additional 5,000 capacity in standing room for a total of just over 100,000
Victoria is the state of which Melbourne is the capital.
problem is you cant just sit anywhere the best seats are taken by MCC members AFL members and club members general admission is mainly 4th level
Us Aussie's appreciate your dedication to our great game. Go Tiger's.😒
What headset are you using
Victoria is the state..so Victorian women's .whatever it was.
We know the MCG is huge. Victorians mention it at least 6 times in every conversation.🤣 But the weather in Melbourne is atrocious and they play really stupid football there.
Sydney's rainfall so far exceeds 800mm. Melbourne's 256.7mm. Go figure
That's why we play stupid footy...helps us tolerate the weather.
taylor swifts biggest concert i ithink, also her biggest earner too. lame
City of Adelaide - much more beautiful. Stay well away from Melbourne & Sydney - covid capitals of the world.
I mean COVID is everywhere but i keep seeing that name often Adelaide. I think that will be my next Vr video Billi
Stay well away from Adelaide, country bumpkin/bogan capital of Australia.
Adelaide: The shallow grave capital of the world.
Adelaide, living history of what Sydney and Melbourne looked like in the 50’s.
Perth is to expensive. Iam movig to Melbourne
I've been on the mcg before trust me I know exactly wat u see 😂
Hey man, Taylor Swift came here recently and broke her attendance records with 96,000 people at the MCG, 3 nights in a row. 288,000 fans, with another 20 to 30,000 camped outside the stadium.
The last two AFL grand finals had 100,023, and 100,024 respectively. Max is 100,050. They sell 80,000 meat pies during the grand final. (Go Sydney 🦢🦢🦢 currently top of the ladder)g
