      Thanks a bunch! Super exciting. A great type to have in the yard. Probably my favorite of the dwarf varieties. :)

    Great presentation and description of the Dwarf Purple Heart, very excited to find a place in my garden to try it! You mentioned the knife, where can I find it?

      Thanks a bunch! A great type of tomato to give a try. The knife is a Miracle Blade. You might be able to find one online under that term. Not necessarily the best knife but they were a big deal a long time ago and sort of a nostalgia item. It does still work great though after 20-30 years. :)

    Very cool way to look at the genetics 😲😊😊 that seems so true! That they'll be able to do better each yr cause it's adapted to the area!

      Thanks tons! Evolution gardening is super interesting stuff. Alot of people I know don't think about it or pay it any attention but alot of our friends on here are lifelong gardeners so have a better chance to see it. :)

    Thanks for sharing your favorite tomato of the season so far😊😊 sorry about the wonky weather, hope your plants stay safe & I am now getting afraid for all my babies, I've got so many, so much more than last yr that I will definitely have to find spaces to put them so they don't die from the cold.

      Thanks a bunch! This is a fantastic tomato. Maybe even in my(UT) top 5. At least top 10. It shares alot of genetics with the Black Krim and Carbon but is one of the closest to C. Purple we have tasted. The plants are really productive and a great grow as well. :)

    Nice tomatoes. You should try ularu ochre, from the dwarf project. Was there a cat purring there somewhere?

    • @UT33200
      @UT33200  8 місяців тому +1

      Thanks tons! The 'uluru ochre' have been recommended to us a couple other times and high on our 'grow bucket' list. Hopefully next season. Almost surely a cat purr. Our critters are never far, especially when making a video. They sense the attention and think it is for them. LOL

    Sweet harvest you gave. LOVE the Purple Heart and the Cherokee purple sound good too. Awesome! Going to try these when we fix the green house set up.creases are better than splits, right?

    How productive are they 🤔 they look great

    • @UT33200
      @UT33200  2 роки тому

      Thanks tons! This type can be extremely productive. This year was a rough grow for us but last year we had dozens of these tomatoes per plant including the ones we gave to friends to grow. I will say that all the dwarf types are really productive for us so far but this one has had some issue getting started. Once it is going it shines big like the rest but a bit of a slower take off. A beautiful well rounded tomato and power plant after it gets its legs under it. :)

    Thank you for the review! How do your dwarf tomatoes perform in the peak heat of summer? Any comment on stronger/weaker performers?
    How about your indeterminate tomatoes performance in peak summer?

    • @UT33200
      @UT33200  Рік тому +1

      Thanks a bunch! The dwarf types do excellent in the Summer heat. Very, very little issues with them as long as they hit the yard at a good time and are strong when it happens. Still being amazed at how well they do and how resistant they are. Almost so well they seem like fake plants with nearly no scalding and/or diseases or weaknesses. Hopefully they continue to get popular so they offer them more places. If I had to choose 3 of the ones we have tried for disease/production/strength then I would probably say Lemon Ice, Golden Heart and Tasmanian Chocolate have been the strongest. Hard to say for sure though since all do well and many issues can be with our grow situation. With the indeterminate types we have a ton of success as long as we keep up on maintenance. They all can be strong growers but have to keep trimmed often as they like to grow and grow just plant unless cut back. Our season can be short so we trim near constant so they stop just growing plant and produce tomatoes. With our little grow space if we didn't have time for upkeep it would probably make sense to grow more determinates but really like the indeterminate for production and growth if we can micro manage well. :)

    Sorry you didn't like Paul Robeson. Kind of odd review of it. 'Char' ?? I would try again because I find Paul bests the rest.
    I ordered Dwarf Purple Heart and am going to try to grow it indoors in Hydro system. I can't eat tomatoes from the store in winter :(

    • @UT33200
      @UT33200  2 роки тому

      Thanks tons! I think you'll like the Purple Heart. Politely disagree on the Paul Robeson though. An excellent tomato and can see it being the favorite type of some. A probable grow for us again as well. Hope you don't mind if I nerd out just a bit. My favorite is the Cherokee Purple. Similar ones are like the Black Krim and Carbon. Both of which have genetics in the Purple Heart. We also like a smoky dark tomato type like the Paul R. and Black Trifele but for a different sort of flavor or quality. Like a rich sauce type and started referring to them as chocolate or rust colored tomatoes. The 'char' from the P. Robeson was probably a bad description. More like the smoky flavored char on a grilled hamburger or smoked meat for example. Plus the rich ready made sauce flavor made it an excellent type. Just not in the same category. I would look into the Dwarf Taz Chocolate if you get a chance and haven't already. We grew that one as well this year and was extremely close to the P. Robeson. It even shares a big portion of its genetics. Close but not quite the exact same flavor and virtually no cracking and strong productive plants. Where I see the Purple Heart as the purple type I see the Taz. Choc. as a brown/rust type. All these types are super good though. Will definitely grow the PR again too. Our first favorite in the category(and all of this is just opinion and way small in the grand scheme) was the Black Trifele for sauce making because of the flavor. The PR we tried to compare to the smoky flavor of a C. Purple or similar type but instead it nocked the Trifele out of first and seemed to us in that category more. Great stuff and thanks for the brainstorm. :)
