      You have to mention after 2 movies they know people are use to with those transformations so anyone would chose Quick transformation after 3 movies it will be definitely boring watching same old and slow transformation and Quality in these movies actually increased by time compared to not just transformers movies but far better then Marvel standards and CG models in transformers 5 are so good and improved.As Ridley Scott said transformers are digitally Masterpiece you have to admit it.Stories are debatable though.

      Yeah as cool as those new designs looked they weren't meant for transforming sequences. Which why when they did transform it looked like random pieces being absorbed into a vehicle. Its almost as if Michael Bay forgot his own rule which is avoid mass shifting at all costs.

      If you look closely in transformers 4 we see more Human side of Optimus in the film more eye close ups to show his human side where as in bumblebee his eyes were flat no details and feels cartoony and in 1st half of TF4 Optimus was angry,lost faith and hope in humans it was Cade who tell him you gotta have faith this time Cade teaches Optimus.So basically in transformers 4 Optimus Prime was a Human who also need guidance then just a robot leader.

    Watching the first half of this video really makes those comments of the bayverse designs being “robots who just have car parts glued onto them” rubs me the wrong way, since the designers and vfx artist really made sure to account for each part of the vehicle and made sure that things didn’t magically morph or nothing was lost

    The transformations of the old films were like classic superhero suit up scenes, they were long and dramatic, whereas these days suit ups/transformations are done off-screen or in a quick shot. I remember how dramatic Optimus’s transformations were in ROTF, it was great and the score elevated it. The only cheesy cool suit up scene I can even cite in the last decade is the Doctor Strange 2 suit up shot.
    Costume designers and CG artists work hard on costumes and models, we need them shown off more like they were in Transformers 1.

    • @jus3th
      @jus3th 2 роки тому +8

      Yeah, While I love the Nano-tech Suit Iron Man has, I miss the days where we have half a minute of suit up sequence. The same could be said for The Transformers, we used to see minutes of Complicated transformations, but now? We only see split seconds of them transform. I wish in the next film, we see them transform in a complicated manner.
      Also, where does Optimus's wheels go if he transforms into a robot in the new design? One of the things I always look for in the transformers when they're in their robot form is the wheels, it's where my belief that they can transform into a vehicle lies.

    It seems like what TF4 and TF5 took away from the first three films when it comes to the Transformations, Bumblebee at least tried to recreate. Such as when Bumblebee transformed from VW to robot mode in front of Charlie, or Shatter and Dropkick triple-changing from aircraft-to-cars-to-robots. Like the intent of those scenes and what made them so fantastical was when we see them from the human perspective and how the human characters, and thereby the audience, saw these sequences unfold.

    "the g1 designs were basic"
    Yes! Thank you! Finally someone says it! I love the Bay versions of the transformers because they deviate heavily from their traditional G1 looks! I've always heard the primary complaint about the bay designs is that they deviate from their G1 forms. I'm all for the more alien and odd looks to them! I don't have anything against the g1 designs in their entirety, the bumblebee movie did a great job with their imagery, but it becomes repetitive and boring when you've got the exact same color scheme or similar design spread out across all the transformers franchise as a whole.
    I am eager for the rise of the beasts transformers movie coming out next year tho.

    The first three movies really made transforming have an impact. Like when megatron rams into optimus mid transformation in rotf or when ironhide rams into the dreads and we see each piece of metal and gear shit and rotate. And what I especially liked was how the transformations looked seem less from robot to vehicle mode like when sideswipe transforms I see where every wheel, door, and car piece goes. But for example optimus with his western style truck mode it makes the vehicle feel like a shell rather than an alternate mode. On the topic of transformium I think it was so wasted mostly from the designs of the characters, it could have worked if all of the autobots kept the design philosophy of the original trilogy and make the ksi bots look like an appropriation of cybertronians. Bumblbee I feel like while more simple has a fraction of the awe that the original bay trilogy had especially when blitzwing transformed and shatter and drop kicks triple transformation.

    Transformers 1 "Trailer"
    A bright star shines brightly onto a metal world.
    Optimus Prime: Cybertron. For centuries it was a peaceful world.
    Robots walk across streets or are flying aircrafts.
    Optimus Prime: But now we fight.
    The scene cuts to the same exact thing but with fire and robot corpses and robots shooting at each other from other spots.
    Optimus Prime: Enemies who were once our brothers.
    A dark shadow figure with an Ion cannon stands over multiple bodies.
    Optimus Prime: The leader of the Decepticons was Megatron.
    Optimus looks toward a city from a hill.
    Starscream: Once we get the ship fixed, we will leave this dreadful organic world.
    The Nemesis sits upon the ocean floor badly damaged.
    Starscream: But sightings of Autobots will have us focusing on them.
    Thundercracker flies into the air while being shot at by Bumblebee.
    Optimus Prime: We either protect humanity. Or we let them go extinct by the Decepticons.
    A teen runs as Starscream tries to grab him.
    Starscream: Give ME the Allspark!
    Starscream gets tackled by Bumblebee into a building.
    Optimus Prime: The most obvious choice is to not let them die. We cannot let it happen.
    Lugnut gets kneed in the eye cracking it before Optimus shoves Lugnut forward.
    Optimus Prime: No matter the cost.
    In his alt mode Optimus jumps a fence and lands on the road before switching to Skywarp thrown into a wall by Ironhide. It switches to Thundercracker dropping the Allspark while being tackled by Sideswipe to the ground.
    It switches to Ironhide bumping into a black car and it crashes into a building.
    Soundwave: Cybertronian technology found.
    Thump thump. Thump thump. Thump thump. Beeeeeeeeeep
    A head covered by ice sits before red eyes open. Everything goes to black.
    ???: Yes Starscream. I'm back.

    for people who absolutely have to see a full and extended transformation scene for each of the Cybertronians, I am not surprised 4 & 5 were largely disappointing. I personally loved all of the Bayformers despite the transformations not being a high focus for the CGI teams, the fact the stories were nothing like their original depictions, and the fact they looked nothing like their G1 counterparts.

  • @SitriUvali
    @SitriUvali Рік тому +1

    The art of watching these transformations for me was in how they retained aspects of the vehicle in their robot modes. The weighty impacts and the character-unique sounds that came with it (you knew who was transforming based on sound alone!)...all the intricate pieces moving to their rightful place really sold it. And they still look otherworldly!
    AoE and TLK robot modes were way too human and transformations too simple. Vehicular parts are completely unaccounted for, such as Megatron's wings just *disappearing* into him; lots of parts are just gone and practicality absorbed leaving little indication as to what vehicle they are. The Decepticons retained their aggressive appearances but looked much less alien than I would have liked (the greatest offenders being Lockdown and TLK Megatron).
    On a side note, I've watched The Last Knight on three separate occasions and do not remember 90% of what happens.

    I think TF4 and TF5 feel off may also be due to the fact that the people involved were most likely fatigued at that point. Micheal Bay wanted to move on to other projects after the first 3 movies. Paramount and Lorenzo were the ones pushing for more sequels. These movies are very hard and time consuming to make.

  • @j05h94
    @j05h94 2 роки тому +45

    I think the transformations followed the trend of the movies, going down hill with each installment, having more and more issues. Bumblebee did have more transformations but like you said they were more simplistic. I however enjoyed that to some degree because it felt like it integrated into the action better. I think the best example of utilizing transforming with fight choreography is transformers prime. Instead of a huge spectacle it's function over fashion, well paced action, and seamless transitions of robot to alt-mode when necessitated. As opposed to a scene being built around transforming altogether. That is a person preference however and the cg is amazing from 2007 even to now.

    • @shcdemolisher
      @shcdemolisher 2 роки тому +5

      Yeah I fully agree with that, it's good being slow when it's a first time viewing of a character, but bad during a fight scene when the action is needed now. Like you said, Prime is a good example of focusing on quick changes to keep the flow of the scene going at a good pace.

    Jokes aside, I agree RBG. One moment that really red flagged the shift away from transformations for me was how DOTM handled the return of the Autobots. One thing a lot of GWunners don't want to admit too, is that these films, all six of them, have given new life to the franchise... by simply offering new ideas for designs.
    G1 was simple, kinda had to be, but the demand for that simplicity and demand the toys retain a level of perfect accuracy to it is untenable. Look at the state of Mater Piece figures today. The QC issues, the over complicated transformations, the (in a modern context) bland looks even if accurate.
    The Bayformers were a breath of fresh air for designs. Love'em or hate'em, they allowed the franchise to evolve.
    And personally? The midpoint between Bay and G1 is the way to go.
    We want the detailed greeble, but with recognisable shapes for fast paced action.

    Seeing them utilize their alt modes in combat was just so awesome and you barely ever saw that in the Bayverse.
    My favorite one was Dropkick speeding off in car mode and using that momentum to shift into Helicopter mode.

    Although I didn't have the same reaction as the one you described to the first transformation of the Autobots, I can see why this would be a special moment for the franchise - it is the first time we are meeting the "good guys" and being introduced to the sight of a group who all have the same ability as the one character we'd previously met. Likewise, seeing Optimus transform for the first time can afford - and *must* afford - to show the transformation in detail because of his status as the hero.
    After that, though... you mentioned it yourself, in a roundabout way: By the second and subsequent movies, the novelty has worn off and so there isn't as much to be gained by showing each transformation from start to finish - we are already familiar with the concept and, believe it or not, people get bored watching something happen. They just want to see the end result.
    I also don't agree with your requirement that a transformation must start in one mode and follow it all the way through to the other mode, without interruption - particularly if it is a sequence we have seen multiple times before in several previous movies. Save that for the real "wow" moments, where they will have the most dramatic impact.
    I will agree, though, that the sequences generally became an afterthought, probably cut for budget reasons as much as anything, as the series went on - which is a shame, as it is in the title of the franchise.

    It was apparent to me even back in Dotm that something was off with the transformations. Optimus transforming infront of Charlotte Mearing when confronting her was the signal that the transformations were being glossed over. It seemed like he had wings for a moment just before he had finished. And I could tell in AoE that they weren't trying to show the spectacle of transformation, what with the new gang barely being seen shifting between modes. I would have paid my entire bank amount to see crosshairs and drift transform properly.
    Although I'm ok with what the new films will be going for, I can't help but wish they wouldn't completely dismiss the bay aesthetic for other lines. I just want one last game with the love and care they give to the other continuities. I'd say that now that the Bayverse is discontinued, they don't have to rush out a cash grab to coincide with a movie, but the fact that it is discontinued along with the Knightverse getting its footing means that hasbro will most likely pay less attention to it, and that saddens me.

  • @BigKettleBoy
    @BigKettleBoy 2 роки тому

    One thing that I think should’ve been highlighted more in AoE was Lockdown’s intro at the beginning of the movie. After he kills Ratchet, they should’ve shown him transform into his car form along with his unique sound design (the best thing about that entire movie in my opinion). If you remember, it just shows him in his car form after the transforming sounds are done. It would’ve made him seem much more menacing and gives the audience a sense of fear like “oh shit he’s really not like the rest”. They do show him transform later on but the camera is a bit too far.
    Just my thoughts🤷🏾‍♂️

    I’m gonna point out something on Optimus in the first trilogy real quick.
    So pretty much all of over prime’s body is truck parts from vehicle. If you look at the leaderclass rotf and mpm toys, you can see which pieces should end up wear, and even then, there are some fake parts in place of where a real vehicle part should be. A lot of people don’t like these designs though because it feels too extra and the parts can easily be dismissed for being just little robo bits. I admit that I do really like the transformations of the original trilogy, but the robot mode result isn’t for everyone.

    It may be a little repetitive, but I hope we get an Autobot te introductory sequence in Rise of the Beasts like the one in 2007. I know it can’t be exactly the same setup, because it’s a completely different five-bot team and they’ve already been on earth for a while. But the arrival scene from 2007 gave us a good look at how each Autobot changes form and also hinted each character’s personality before they even spoke, such as their choice of vehicle mode or body language during transformation.

    I do agree with you there is a lack of transformation as the newer movies came out. But I’m all honesty I think the idea of the transformation being slower and more prominent to the first two movies was because they were all getting used to their vehicle modes and I believe as they got used to them, they got faster at transforming for battle mode purposes. If an autobot takes as long as Optimus did to open his scene with Megatron in the first movie and do it during the battle of Chicago, the chances are a decepticon will have the advantage and attack before The autobot finishes their transformation. As you see in Dark of the Moon when the Autobots fight sentinel prime, they don’t have time for their slow transformations. Bumblebee did a fast one to reverse and dodge Sentinel’s melee weapon.

Just a major downer that they could have done more I mean shit Avengers Infinity Wars was a two part movie ending with End Game I could see Age of Extinction being a two part movie. The first part being called something like Transformers Fallen Arms and then switching to Age of Extinction for the second part. But instead, they say good bye to the fancy transforms and stick to fast paced actions.
