"Explanation of 'Sarf is the mother of all sciences":
Sarf is referred to as the mother of sciences because the Masdar (root word) acts like a mother and that (Masdar) is the focus of Sarf. Words are derived from the Masdar, it's as if the Masdar gives birth to different forms of words behaving like a mother. These words which are then derived are utilised in other sciences of the Arabic language, hence, it is the mother of sciences.
Once the child is born, with age the father disciplines him and makes him fit (be acceptable) into society through good manners and conduct. Nahw disciplines (structures) words together in order to make a well structured sentence, such that the sentence is accepted and approved of in speech. Just like the father makes the child 'approved of' in society, Nahw makes a sentence 'approved of' in speech through merging words. Hence, Nahw is referred to as the father of sciences.
