I've seen all these musicians live in the 1950s and 1960s. I have also met some of them, too! Fantastic musicians, lovely people...

    Jack Teagarden - - -
wasn't he the fertile source of Lester Young's tenor sound?
So tender, so polite was Jack's trombone sound!
    And Louis - - - pleasantly boisterous!
    Just singing the Blues...

Prez cites Frank Traumbauer as his main inspiration I doubt he would have heard Jack in his early years.

Hi John, This is from the movie 'The Strip' starring Mickey Rooney. Louis' All Stars at that time minus Arvell Shaw and Cozty Cole. Louis also recorded around the same time with drummers Nick Fatool also Dave Tough so could be either of them. I've seen the film and seem to recall they share the stand with a white group. Later Mickey Rooney performs a spectacular drum solo see ua-cam.com/video/-cdNyfRaZIA/v-deo.html&pbjreload=10

Don't like this version of Louis and Jack, primarily because Louis is playing second fiddle. no discredit to Jack's talent, but, and I say but, NFW does Louie "Satchmo" belong in the background. NFW

This is a truncated version. In the proper, longer one Pops is full-on front-and-centre. Joe Glaser made sure of that, and so too did Pops himself. At the same time; however, Louis did feel okay sharing the spotlight at times - but with only a handful of peers; Jack among them.

I read once that Louis called Jack Teagarden the greatest musician in the world. Now, that likely was hyperbole on Louis' part, but it still speaks to the immense respect he had for Jack. So, if he was going to have anyone upstage him, it would be Jack. But of course nobody can really upstage him. Although Jack is formally in front here, when Louis comes in he really shows his genius and dominance.

Michael Dahnke This song is also Teagarden’s theme song...it’s the one he’s best known for. Doesn’t surprise me at all that Armstrong would step back and give to moment to Teagarden. Of course, he also said more in that tiny trumpet solo than some trumpeters say in their entire lives, so....

Teagarden is great. Amstrong trumpet is horrible.
