Yest' Na Sviti (Who Owns Freedom) by Nastasia Y & DoVira

I wrote this song is based on a poem by Taras Shevchenko called "Єсть на світі доля"("Yest' Na Sviti Dolya")'. Taras Shevchenko is many things - an artist, a writer, a poet... For Ukrainians, he is a national hero. His life path from slavery to glory is an inspiration, and his artistic heritage is an example for generations of creatives all over the globe.
As a poor man, born into serfdom, and later imprisoned by the Russian empire for his Ukrainian-language work, he talks about being fortunate and free. In this poem, he states that he may be barefoot, but he is wealthy, for his heart walks in freedom.
When I saw this poem in a book, it spoke to me, and I immediately sat down at my piano. The music wrote itself.
In honour of Poetry Month, I re-uploaded this composition, recorded on the album 'DoVira'.
