As with all Stravinsky, musical PULSE is everything. I think this has a good pulse and as pointed out this is a musically pretty crisp performance. Can't comment on the staging, but Les Noces is a work of utter genius (and Stravinsky's own favourite of all his works), so I'm grateful this has been posted.
Excellent historical staging as always from the Mariinsky. Gergiev likes to rush Noces, but nevertheless, the presentation and music are hypnotic and alluring. Les Noces plays in my dreams. The dancers need to be more together! However, it may be stylistic. I know nothing of dance.
The fast tempo is startling and captures the music's excitement -- I really like it. But, is it too fast for Nijinska's choreography? After more than 40 years, I have grown used to Bernstein's 1977 recording (when it was released, there was a great BBC talk by Bernstein about the piece and Nijinska's ballet -- is it available anywhere?), so this performance is very refreshing.
Music here is much crisper and more lively than the Royal Ballet recording also on youtube. Know next to nothing about dance, can't speak to its quality. It's the Mariinsky though so I'll assume impeccable.
I was not able to find the "Roya Ballet Les Noces" on UA-cam. Would be grateful if you coud let me have the link. However, I saw LES NOCES ON VIMEO the Royal Ballet production - Bronislava Nijinska choreography & John Carewe. I prefer that production to this.
I'm afraid it's less than impeccable. The company failed to call onto a Royal Ballet regisseur to stage the work. When it comes to Les Noces, the Royal Ballet continues being the reference to the work. There is a recording of the company dancing the work in the seventies which still remains the reference to watch. Unfortunately it's not available commercially. But it is worth noting that in that recording the tempos are faster than in the more recent version.
As with all Stravinsky, musical pulse is everything. I think this has a good pulse and as pointed out this is a musically pretty crisp performance. The staging is bloody awful here though - stiff, uncoordinated, and totally joyless. But it's a work of genius and Stravinsky's own favourite.
I'm only 2 minutes in writing this but, like their performance of the Rite of Spring, they haven't got this together at all. I prefer this musically though

Great to see this. Thank you.
Vaslav would have cried watching this if he was healthy. :') It's a masterpiece and reminds me Le Sacre du Printemps so much...
sorry but it was Bronislava nijinska not Vaslav Nijinsky that choreograph þhis ballet
@@Dancetilldeathdousapart i think vaslav would have the capacity to be proud of his sister's work
Simply beautiful
amazing

Everyone is an expert. Oh well, I liked it!

I saw the Royal Ballet version on Vimeo which I prefer.
it's a pity that video and audio are a bit out of synchronization.

Just learned that Bronislava Nijinska is a sister of Vaslav Nijinsky. No wonder this looks so similar to the Rite of Spring.
Is this on DVD or Blueray?
the royal ballet have the most accurate choreograph and rhythm rather Mariinsky
