This young'n is turning into a metalhead....as a GenX... I'm happy to see young folks realize that GenX Metal was the best generation to grow up in... He's got a long row to hoe..to catch up..hehe.. ✌️❤️🤘...
SAD. BUT. TRUUUUUUUEEEE!!!!! Same album, massive heavy riffs 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘 Lars Destroying the Drums, Jason with Dirty, Filthy Bass, Epic Lead from Kirk, and James’ lyrics and vocals like a fricking Cannon!!!
Agreed when you were talking about heaviest metallica sad but true was my first thought. I was gonna check if I just missed your reaction to it but it's a must
😂 The open mouthed shock of that first listen. That is the ONLY reaction. Imagine being a teenager and listening to the entire Black album straight through for the fist time. Life changing to an entire generation.
Metallica have conquered the world musically but at that point in their career they were out to dominate and everything they did was to prove they were the kings of metal. All four playing at peak performance. I was lucky to have seen them on the black album tour. AMAZING!!
It's not one of the hardest song they have written, but one of the most beautiful, catching, memorable. The Black album was a breaking point for their carreer and it's a fucking masterpiece.
I'm a professional belly dancer and I love performing to this song. Metal music isn't typically something I would gravitate too for this particular type of dance, however, this song was the perfect fit for my choreography 👌. Most reactors don't do this particular Metallica song much, so I really appreciate you doing it. Glad you enjoyed it as well.
lol reminds me of Larnell Lewis (a jazz fusion drummer) listening to Enter Sandman for the first time before playing and like “so… wide open hi hats” 😂 Like yup, that’s pretty much every Metallica song.
Hey guys..I was a older teenager in 1991 when this album dropped....The very night the Black album was available in my town me and my friends hit " The Strip" main drag street blasting this song along with another hundred cars full of teenagers with the same idea as me....all I can say is that it was awesome...everybody hanging their heads out their cars windows screaming like a banshee to Thrash Metal....Never to be repeated...great memories
Your enthusiasm as you turn into a metalhead is contagious, I wish I was listening to them for the first time, I’ve watched nearly all your Metallica videos tonight and its nice to see someone from the younger generation enjoying this type of music.
Okay, fun facts All lyrics are James. No one else but him. Also this Riff is all Papa Het. He writes around 90% of the riffs. Also, he and Lars put it all together every song, until just recently he's had everyone involved and he said he was ready to let go of all of the control of everything every song and tired of just him and Lars doing it, and wanted all of them to put their ideas, riffs, leads etc into the album. But still 90% of the riffs and still to this day 100% of the lyrics are all James. I've been a fan since 81' the birth of Thrash metal and Metallica was born. They are my favorite band they've evolved just like me. And yeah there's alot of old fans that'll say only the 1st four albums or whatever...me, No I love all their music, James could sing the phone book and I'd buy it & put it on my Playlist!! These boys not only are talented af, but are legendary!! They are so tight 42 yrs together. They got it down!!! They are AMAZING LIVE!! If I lived closer we'd take you to a Metallica concert!! I'd love to see your face full of joy & pure Ahhhhh... thanks for my Metallica Monday💥♥️🤘🤘🔥🎸🤗
Hetfield is the passion in the band...... (Cough) Lars does too (Cough)....... Somehow (cough)...... Papa Het comes up with the rhythm riffs..... The base (not the bass) of the song. Kirk really comes up with the most awesome melodies that go along with those riffs. 'One' might be one of the best examples. The melodies in the leads are memorable and complement Het's hitting lyrics and rhythm guitar to perfection.
30 years later and i still can't tell whether i love the drums, guitar, bass, or singing the best ..each freaking part comes together in a masterpiece of music. Lyrics are so deep. One of my top 5 Metallica songs. If you haven't done Unforgiven yet, you should. I'll find out after this reaction ❤
Harvester of Sorrow/Ride the Lightning/Fade to Black/Blitzkrieg/Frayed Ends of Sanity/Fight Fire with Fire I could go on and on. I discovered Metallica when I was 12 and finally got to see them in concert a couple years ago at 44. I hope you continue listening.
@@HeavyMetalForLife The majority of lifelong Metallica fans will tell you it's the 5th best, and it is. That's why you consistently hear people talk about "their first 4 albums". There is a large group of younger fans who like some of the newer stuff and the Black Album. Problem is most of them haven't gone back to check out the earlier stuff.
"four horsemen" from album kill em all, trust me, ur mind will be blown, this song is fully stacked with great riffs, legendary solos and just so badass, trust me it will definitely be worth it.
The black album was the first thing I ever heard from Metallica. I grew up in a Baptist Church where everything was the devil. My parents warned us not to watch MTV because it was the devil. With movies, they used to say people were paying to see the devil. So I grew up thinking anything that gave me those types of feelings you're having when you make the scrunchy face was Satan trying to get into my heart. In 1991, we knew our family was going to be moving away from the place where I was born, and my sister got this wild idea to paint her room with murals on every wall. We ended up with a constant rotation of friends coming through to help us, or just hang out while we worked on this epic project. One day one guy said have you heard the new Metallica?" And he put the tape in. That moment changed everything. My sister went out and bought it (she was a bit older than me) and we listened to it basically on repeat for well over a month. I started learning guitar right away. My dad was a musician in his youth and had instruments in the house. I haven't stopped learning guitar since then. And after the black album, I bought their earlier albums and understood more about the journey the band had been on. And I loved it all. Metallica wasn't just a band for me. It was a way of life.
its a great song but now you have to react to "To Live Is To Die" from their album "...And Justice For All" it's surely one of their best sound, at least my favorite I think, and it's a tribute to their late former bass player Cliff Burton, a wonderful song. please 🙏
Hey there molly this album was recorded in Vancouver BC Canada and yes I was in high school when it was released it became the party album for all us metal heads !
Most of the album was recorded at One on One Recording Studios in Los Angeles. And a week or two in Vancouver, BC. It took eight or so months from start to finish. 😊
I remember when I bought my first real stereo with high quality Dali speakers, twin 10" bass elements in each speaker. Loaded up this song and just let loose. God damn. I knew then that it was money well spent 😂
I have been with Metallica from the beginning. There are three distinct eras. First four albumns are thrash metal, next 4 albumns broader audience, and current era experimentation with the last two albumns recapturing some thrash remnants. Creeping Death, Sanitarium, Disposable Heros, Blacken, Seek and Destroy,.
One of Metallica's little mentioned strengths is taking another band's song and absolutely turns it into mania. A great example is they're version of the Diamond Head song, The Prince. 🔥🤘🏽🔥🤘🏽
Stevie ray Vaughn is a great one to react to. You have to watch him live. It's like him and the guitar are connected somehow. Interesting fact, neither Stevie ray or Metallica can read music. Just shows how much genuine talent there really is 😊
Wherever I may Roam, Wherever I may Roam, Wherever I may Roam, Wherever I may Roam, Wherever I may wander, wander, wander.... Wherever I may Roam. Yeah, yeah. Wherever I may Roam. YEAH Yeah.
Was front row, center with my concert buddies that were brothers . We had just enough mushrooms to give us the giggles. Perfect! We were the same age as band members... As we were watching them, they were looking at us cuz we were all so fuckin' young and hot, same as them. It was a great show. I even got to grab James' hand and he squeezed it- what a metal moment!❤ It was so fun to be young and hot back in the day. Not mad about being almost 60 now cuz we got to experience the best of the best- imo. And Bic lighters instead of looking through a cell phone.🎉🍄🤩🕊️😍🍀🎟️🎫🌵🌴🎸🎤⚡🎸🥁🔥🎸🇺🇲🏟️
I think what makes this song a great contender for what you find when you look up what heavy metal is in the dictionary is that it doesn’t stray too far in one direction. Like what I mean is like there’s heavier songs of course, and you can add to that by tuning down your guitar. But a lot of times bands will go heavier and slower to balance it out. Like the song Sad But True. Or they go heavier but faster, but then you creep towards it not being heavy metal anymore and it becoming more either thrash metal or some djenty death metal/prog metal/black metal. And to try and be unique they’ll usually end up being either too complex (more prog) or too “basic” (djenty sound). And all of those sounds have their place and work for that style, but they stray too much from the prime example of heavy metal. This is one of those songs that is right at that sweet spot in heaviness in both guitar tone and lyrics, speed in its bpm, length of the song, and the buildup and transitions. Textbook solo, a unique aspect using some eastern instruments like the sitar in the intro, and just enough of a groove to it. Powerful drums without being anything crazy, and some good lyrics without being to hard to interpret or understand while also not being so basic and generic that it sounds uninspired or cookie cutter. I have to agree that this song could very well be the example song you find when trying to explain what heavy metal is. Are there arguably better heavy metal songs? Of course. I’m not saying this is the best one. I’m saying this is a perfect middle ground heavy metal song that’s just textbook. And the thing is, the guys that made this song also pretty much wrote the textbook too. I’m also not saying there aren’t other songs out there that I’d also agree could be used as that perfect example song, I’m just saying this one is one of them, and that I don’t think many people would argue that someone chose a bad song to use as an example for the genre if this one was used. They may think there could be a slightly better one sure, but I don’t think many people would argue this is not a great song to use for that example.
We, 18 y.o. back then, used to listen to this as something usual, expected as a quality and experience, as something taken for granted... Boy, we were blessed!
Might be my favourite on that album... but then... many choices. Anyhow - delighted at your response to this - I still get goosebumps from it years later. Always be yourself, by the way - crack on fella.

Dude. Millennials are people too.
Faith No More, Metallica, Guns N’ Roses…best concert ever. Legitimately off the charts.
Carved upon my stone, my body lies but still I roam. I'm a lyricist and I really wish I came up with that. Awesome
The level of badassery in this song is unparalleled
SAD. BUT. TRUUUUUUUEEEE!!!!! Same album, massive heavy riffs 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘
Lars Destroying the Drums, Jason with Dirty, Filthy Bass, Epic Lead from Kirk, and James’ lyrics and vocals like a fricking Cannon!!!

Sad but true riff is so much heavier than this.
Yes!!! It's my first favourite Metallica song. That's what got me into Metal 🤘🤘🤘

Only song I don't like from that album lmao

Isn’t it amazing when the music brings you to tears!! 💋
Always loved that song.
Watching back all these old ones, makes me realise how much i miss Jason
I am 57 and saw them 40 years ago. All other bands fell away when we heard Kill'em All.
"I. Ask. No One." Perfect
Lyrically, this is my favorite Metallica song. It is extremely poetic.
This is one of their best songs they perform live it always sounds epic and beautiful.
Aa an international lorry driver i fully understand the lyrics..
Being a fan of Metallica since '83...

you have a video? im curios now..
The tuning on the snare is soooo crispy in this one, it sounds like he's using a 10 pound (or 4.5 kilo, if you prefer) drumstick. It's like a gunshot
Metal sticks, too! 🔥

The entirety of the black album is great. It is regarded as one of the greatest albums in music history.
Odd being it's only their 5th best album!
@@blitz3643 3rd or 4th best I’d agree with.
It says a lot about the strength of their 80s output though, because the Black album is great.
@@blitz3643 2nd best metallica album, black album gave the world the standard of perfectly produced metal music being a serious genre
@@shmick6079Yeah....I wasn't putting down the Black Album as I like it a lot. It just doesn't compare to the first 4 though imo.

The black album in it's entirety is a must❤Much love from Canada❤🇨🇦
You should check out Sad but true from this album. You will 100% love it.

Favorite song off the Black Album
Bleeding Me -Woodstock 99 and watch them prove the haters wrong - they still kicked ass during the late 90s, even with the haircuts
One of Metallica's little mentioned strengths is taking another band's song and absolutely turns it into mania. A great example is they're version of the Diamond Head song, The Prince. 🔥🤘🏽🔥🤘🏽
Roam is my 2nd fav on this album... I Entered with Sandman in '91 and Still I Roam with 'tallicA!
One of my favourite metallica songs. James' vocals on this entire album are stunning.
This song start with a fire shot. :)
Metallica -the four horseman. im telling you it will melt your face off its that good.
The whole black album cover to cover is genius. Stick with the black album theme and go “Sad But True.”
If you have a run through like a into to a football match, play this song as you run out on the field!! Epic!!
My absolute favorite song by Metallica!! "Rover, wanderer, nomad, vagabond,
Call me what you will" 🤘🏼

Shouldn't have done the radio edit version! Jame's removed harmony is my favourite bit

"Don't tread on me" is an awsome song off of the same album
Luv this song
The intro to this song is played on an instrument called a sitar.
Hit the lights 🤘🏻 you'll love that song
I see that Metallica has enriched your musical mind. It is necessary to start from the very beginning.
Kill 'Em All-Hit the Lights →🤘🤘🤘
Brilliantl album saw these guys about 3 times they never disappoint 😊
Also going to put Cold Chisel out there again. A wonderful classic rock rabbit hole to tumble down.
Yeah! Brilliant choice Molly Boy. Death Metal cures all.
Don't Tread On Me is another banger
Yeah, one of my favorit Metallica songs. It has such a manacing but also cool atmosphere.
If you like this one, check out "Sad but true"
Might be my favourite on that album... but then... many choices. Anyhow - delighted at your response to this - I still get goosebumps from it years later.
Always be yourself, by the way - crack on fella.
You have to react to Bleeding Me - Metallica!!!
Through the Never needs to be the next one on this album.
Harvester of Sorrow. You will love it.
"Bro. What are you talkin bout, man."
I'm not sure why, but that intro makes me smile every time. Lol
I love this reaction!
The entire video was shot in my home town. The last line of the song means so much to me. Always reminds me of my father.
This is when they were introduced to Bob Rock, the producer. They were skeptical at first about trusting him, but soon realized that he could really push them creatively further. Glad James opened the door to Bob. Classic album.
Saw this concert live in 91. Just brilliant and it was a riot.
Another great reaction. Loving your Metallica journey so far 👍
Stardom 🤘🏻
Couple songs to recommend - Black Sabbath - symptom of the universe. Testament - Apocalyptic city. Exodus - Strike of the beast.
real music 👿
No worries the third time i heard one from Metallica I cried like a baby
And the road becomes my bride
And the road becomes my bride ....
This video version has a section of the song chopped out so make sure you go back and listen to the full thing :)
Welcome to the metal community mate!
Been there since 1988 when I was 10 years old.
Metallica was a big reason I became a metalhead.
If you want heavy, Metallica give you heavy baby!!! Check out Sad But True. That intro is HEAVY!!!!!
