The years teach what the days never knew... Wow the words in this song are so true to an experience i had. You took me back to a time when i gave myself permission to feeling longing and grief. A time when i had goals of love and relationship. In the 80's gay relationships weren't acknowledged or encouraged. Oh i would have done it differently had i known what was possible then.. now, it's too late. Swimming Pool Library, a book by Alan Hollinghurst had a line that describes life as a single gay man after the age of 50. I've never forgot how he captured how older gay men are disregarded as expired milk. "I apply myself to the subtler connoisearship of the out of season, days without warmth, nights without encounter, the empty pleasure grounds and the violence of the tides."
Single, older gay men can relate to single, older women because we are invisible. we use to be the popular ones at the nightclubs.. Now we say, "hello, how are you..?" and no one responds or acknowledges our existence.. I don't remember being so cold when i was young. I hope i was kinder.
