Panama is an immigration country from its creation. China has one fifth of the world's total population, so 5% of Panama population are of Chinese descendants does not look over represented.
That's the case if the world's population is in a complete, perfect mixing.
We all know there are frictions for immigration.
Most people would hesitate to move abroad, especially when the destination is somewhere central America.

5% is actually quite large compared to 1-2% in Indonesia.

The difference between US and China:
- China brought infrastructure projects that is worth tens of millions of dollar and a generous trade deal to Panama during their visit.
- US brought warships and soldiers when they visited Panama. All US did was to warn Panama to stay far from China or risk getting sanctioned by US.
They brought the people to America & killing the indigenous

And the Panamanian government just shifted recognition from Taipei to Beijing as the sole representative of China in the international community only in 2017 under former president Juan Carlos Valera and his chief diplomat+vice president Isabel de St. Malo.
There will be more room for engagement, consensus and cooperation between both sides in the years and decades to come like other Latin American countries which established ties with mainland China decades before.

Later on, Italian, Lebanese, Syrian, Chinese, German, Palestinian, Japanese, French and Eastern European immigrants arrived to the various countries of Latin America after they became independent.
And all of that is on top of our Indigenous heritage, which is extremely diverse in and of itself. The Spanish and Portuguese Empires were the original melting pots.
They are as Panamanian as I am, the grandchild of West Indian immigrants. His reference to them as Chinese is more a reflection of his own prejudices. They are no longer “immigrants”.

USA and Panamá have a close relationship. For obvius reasons; US allow our independence, built the first interoceanic railway, the first canal, the first brige to link both saparated lands of our country and allow us to use the US Dollar currency since 1904. Also many sencibility Canal trades between our countries, things like neutrality, traffic, merch, security by US and more.
So basically we are in the middle of comercial war between USA and China.

Well china's has not invested in Panama as it has done in other latin American countries eventhought there is a large Chinese population in the country,Panamá and china have just recently been formally doing business for most of the millennium Panamá did business with Taiwan however back in 2017 they renounced to acknowledge Taiwan's independence and froze relations with Taiwan to be able to start with China, China will never be able to fully influence Panamá since the country is very independent on its own economic and the USA depends on the canal functions, China is just a passing cloud in the Panamanian sky if anything the only things they have help Panamá with is the new bridge over the canal and even that Panama has fully invested their on money on it china is just helping with the logistic. Its not entirely true that Chinese migrated because of Colonization. Yes, there are majority of Chinese migrated during colonization period but not all. Chinese had been migrating to the States, SEA, Middle East as early as Song Dynasty (probably around 800 years ago). There are also majority of Chinese who came to South East Asia to do business, in fact there are plenty successful Chinese business man during the colonization period.
Traces of migration can even be found as early as Han dynasty which is probably more than 1800 years ago.
I saw a big China Town in Amsterdam. It is as big as the Red Light District.
