@@shcdemolisher If the infected corpses are close to where they were camping out, sure that sounds logical. Otherwise, I don't think anyone is stupid enough to touch (even with thick gloves) corpses of zombies from unknown disease that wrecked the planet.
My favorite part in Crash Course is a when horde incoming and Francis said "Here they come! Zoey, just pretend they're all helicopter pilots!" 4:54 it's possible that the sleeping bags are like this because they would take 'shifts' sleeping, as in, one would sleep while the other kept watch. if that is so, then it would seem they were interrupted while one slept, and had to quickly flee, leaving their sleeping bags behind
I always ran with the assumption that any body split in half with no environmental reason was a tank in L4D as they are the only infected in that game shown to pick up and toss anything, in the trailer we see the tank pick up a common and rapidly slam it around with both arms pulling in different directions while it does so, a tank could have smashed open the container he was in, rushed in and grabbed him inadvertently ripping him in half before throwing one half out where it landed and skidded along the ground
As well that part of the map has a chance of a Tank spwning, meaning that said body and most probable the whole groupe died not days, but mere hours (or even minutes) before we arrived. Since we have to start the generator for the finale and it fails mid event, is posible the group ahead of us didn't managed to turn it back on and were decimated by the horde
4:30 There is an official US military manual for making homemade explosives, among other improvised survival things, so in an emergency situation like the one in the games I could see that being used to make up for shortages of more traditional supplies.
There's an in-game model for that book you mentioned, on the table where you spawn in the 1st chapter in Dead Air, which is why you have like 5 pipebombs and 3-4 molly. The group was making them while they wait for night time. Later when Valve made L4D2 and people asked why it was mostly daytime while in L4D1 they're all night time, Valve said at the time horror games all themed around the dark which makes it spookier, but meta-wise the L4D1 group were more experienced, and they learned the infected have slower reaction time at night than during the day so they waited until night; whereas Nick's group just wants to get to New Orleans ASAP.
Also with the way pipe bombs are rigged up with an extremely loud beeping timer they're clearly meant to specifically draw in infected. I could definitely see the military using something like that. If our regular survivors do, why not them? Standard frag grenades would only be useful in niche situations. These pipe bombs would outclass them in almost any situation.
When it comes to the pilot, he has dialogue suggesting he attempted to pick up survivors from the street and it goes wrong, which is why he has a line telling the crew that he'll be running late. There's also a line, that I don't remember if it was cut or not, where as he flies off with the crew he asks "None of you guys are doctors are you?" (or something along those lines) suggesting that while trying to save the people from the street he gotten bitten possibly. Given that his body doesn't look infected there's two possibilities: 1. He attempted to pick those survivors from the street and got infected, leading to Zoey killing him as he turned mid flight 2. He was immune, but while performing his rescue attempt got hurt really bad, asking the group if any of them were a doctor so they could possibly patch him up, and as he started to bleed out mid flight, Zoey killed him thinking he was turning
The thought of number two is quite saddening since I’m pretty sure she also executed her father because they both thought he was going to turn and he might’ve been a carrier too since the father would’ve been the one to pass that gene on
@@craftysmithkeith3653i really doubt the number 2, there are cut dialogued where it shows the dude roaring like a infected, i know its cut but i really doubt that he was just hurt and not infected
4:28 one could also argue that maybe most soldiers had to improvise their weapons due to a shortage in munitions and lack of coordination with their HQ to resupply, but that's just my theory
What I imagine happened to the pilot at the beginning of the chapter was that, considering it might be the same news helicopter coming back and forth to pick up survivors. Some may have been carriers and exposed him. So he was turning at some point.. either or. It’s possible our group exposed him. Considering survivor writing says it can take minutes to turn someone (don’t count me on that)
The pilot stated he was being careless during a street pick up and was hit normally he wouldnt of turned shortly after but after being in such close proximity with the survivors his infection was accelerated
11:46 My theory is that a tank killed this one, the container being all bent up and beat, the tank could've taken a hold of him, spliced him in half with his strenght and threw his upper body all the way on the other side. However I don't like the fact that the lower half, had no blood what-so-ever.
@GoodOleDFT Yeah but I doubt that he was where his upper body was, then got dismembered , drained of blood and then his lower half got carried to the container :D
I think the lack of blood is just because of how Hammer-placed decals work, IF I remember correctly (feel free to check and correct me if I'm wrong) they can only be applied to brushes and displacements in the L4D version of the engine, and since the body, bag, and container are all props, they couldn't have blood on them. Like I said though, I might be wrong.
I will mention that the lack of blood inside the container is probably because you can't place decals on top of models in hammer There *are* work-arounds to this limitation, but it was small enough of a detail that I can forgive them for that.
The soldiers were already stationed around the area as shown by military trucks, barricades, and more evidently a howitzer near the barricaded bridge and here 4:40 it could be that normal military grenade doesn't have the beeping and blinking light capabilities to distract zombies plus they detonate much quicker than pipe bomb which is ineffective against horde of running zombies so they could have produced their own homemade beeping pipe bombs to counter infected
6:29 Love the video but just wanted to point out that there are no immunes in L4D. The survivors we play as are whats called Carriers, people who don't signs of the infection but can still transmit it. That's why the pilot on Dead Air turns, because of his proximity to the survivors. You can see alor of hints at this in The Parish with the wall graffiti and piles of dead, uninfected bodies.
@@visinshavingvisions The Dead Air pilot never got in contact with the survivors, as far as we can tell. The cargo hold of the C130 is completely separate from the cockpit.
@@visinshavingvisions The very first line the No Mercy heli pilot said after you start the finale is "I'm running late, I just had an incident" suggest he knew his time is coming. Dude probably coughed up blood or something and knew he's not seeing tomorrow's daylight.
@@visinshavingvisions Dead Air pilot didn't turn. The cockpit is completely separate from the cargo bay where the survivors were. The plane went down because of one of three scenarios that I can see. A: the plane simply ran out of fuel. B: the plane suffered a mechanical malfunction and crashed. Or C: the military shot the plane down
1 thing I notice throughout the franchise is almost all the safe rooms have no food in them. It's a subtle way to answer the question: "Why didn't they just hunker down and wait it out?" from gamers. Hell, in many rooms there're even opened bags of dog food, suggesting someone was so hungry they tried dog food. Also the first fridge you see in No Mercy is also the ONLY fridge in the game that you can open/close it's doors (with functioning lights). No other fridges has this feature.
Not really/anymore. Somewhere in the "Last Stand" campaign, there is a vintage fridge that can be opened too, also revealing a body stuffed inside of it. This is an easter egg.
4:22 the U.S Army utilizes trains to transport heavy equipment and supplies across the country. there were railroad tracks by my house and we would occasionally see trains pulling M1 Abram tanks and Bradley's and other heavy vehicles. the soldiers at the train yard were more than likely there to guard and help unload supplies from the trains. likely the army was trying to build up and take back the city but was overrun.
Watching these videos is like going down the memory lane, back when i was a kid, discovering these stuffs, piecing together the story and talk to friends about it at school. Happier times
Great video! I wanted to point two things out: 1- the helicopter pilot did actually turn. There’s cut voice lines that implied he was sick and not lasting much longer. They were cut because the devs didn’t want to make it seem like the ending for no mercy was triumphant. 2- I don’t believe the map at 9:43 is canon in the current left 4 dead lore, and there’s multiple reasons. For one, the time frame. I find it hard to believe that the green flu spread from the east coast to west in what, 2 weeks? There’s a map in left 4 dead 2 that seems to contradict it as well. The fact that Rochelle was sent to cover a news story despite at that time the entire country was gone seems strange as well. It also doesn’t make much sense that in the end of Left 4 Dead 2, the military bombs a major bridge to stop the infection when according to the map, both sides of the Mississippi are gone. That seems like a major waste of time and resources.
@@LegendStormcrow Could also mean whoever was marking the map was misinformed (which I find believable, as I doubt they could personally go to all of these safe zones, and communications have likely broken down quite some bit since the outbreak), or perhaps the marks don't denote what safe zones are overrun, but something else. Personally, though, I find it likely that when they made this map they had a different idea of the kind of scope the infection would have.
While that is all true, I think that it's also worth consideration that the spread of the green flu was just so rapid that any remaining places of safety in the United States fell close to the 2 to 3 week mark. With power and services going out rapidly across the country, the flow of communication was pretty much non-existent by the events of the game, which is also why the Left 4 Dead 2 crew thought that New Orleans might have been safe. As for the quickness that the green flu spread out from the East Coast, I think it's likely that the speed of mutation for the disease may have caused some sick people to not know that they were sick until after they had flown back to the West Coast. That, or they were "immune" carriers. I don't really have an answer for the bombing runs in Left 4 Dead 2.
@@SweetnSourSybil True, but they'd still likely not think that a quarter of the world away was already lost. Might as well say we lost all of China too.
One thing to take note of is the increasing desperation of the military seen in the past video of No Mercy and Crash Course with the set up of fortified positions. You typically see miniguns throughout the finales of Left 4 Dead in areas where a simpler machine gun could also be used with much less Maintenace. Crash's course horde event has the Howitzer already having been set up and primed to fire.. weaponry of that scale implies they may have been aware of the special infected and Tanks and were taking precautions against them.
I believe this is the map that has a certain graffiti called The Angels Of Death hidden in one of the rooms during one of the chapters as well and they had killed hundreds of infected. Not sure what happened to them but its a neat thing to see that the player survivors arent the only ones that are managing to kill so many infected by themselves
We see their names again in the sacrifice final safehouse, in the comic we see that there was a stocked sailboat with a dead guy inside it, presumably they ended there, failing to raise the bridge to get it out
@@draconianwarking I wouldn't be too certain. The second time we see the Angels of Death graffiti, not only have they not lost anyone, but they've also added a new name onto their list. I feel like if the sailboat was stockpiled from the Angels of Death, they would have left more than one person on it. Might just be wishful thinking on my part, though.
The Helicopter Pilot definitely became a Zombie. There are cut voice lines that were supposed to play of him turning, and then crashing the helicopter, during the end cutscene of No Mercy, but Valve didn't like that it ruined the good feeling of completing a campaign, so they cut them.
I knew I wasn't misremembering! The chopper pilot mentions over the radio that he had a delay due to "an incident" which implies he was bitten or otherwise exposed. I don't know when they cut the line because I recall it actually being in the game. Maybe I had an addon that restored it, though.
@@syzykitty He never said it over his bullhorn in either the game or the cut content, he was meant to say it at the end of the cutscene after the final. So it was definitely an addon you had installed.
One depressing fact about The Church Guy is even if he wasn't bitten he was still doomed when the 4 Survivors of L4D1 would come through due to them being Carriers. They would have caused his transformation to an Infected after Death Toll.
Watched your No Mercy video last night hoping this would be a series, and to my delight Crash Course arrived! Subbed and appreciate this dedication to exploring these spaces. To be honest, I think your approach here could be a whole channel dedicated to exploring environmental storytelling in popular titles. It’s mentioned, but never showcased in such a thorough and visual way. Thanks for all the hard work!
LET’S GO thanks for making a second part to this series. I’ve always loved the environmental storytelling in this game, and I love the way you tell the story with the in-game sound effects
I’m gonna pretend the people waiting for Peter were Quagmire, Joe and Cleveland. Also fun fact: the fan made campaign “Back to School” takes place after Crash Course and the survivors end up heading to “Borden High School” one of the places mentioned on the evacuation center lists. Dead Rising and Left4Dead are among the OGs of Zombie games so I always enjoyed seeing their little reference acknowledgements
Dude, i swear i only pulled you up to have some background video while i was playing runescape, but i got so immersed by this, the storytelling, the quiet, calming voice, the lack of any random sounds or edits, just pure theorycrafting and ambience, i'm definitely subscribing and liking for more, keep it up
@@Frostaltered Book was nice until story went to japan, where author started to write some anime with blind oldman who kills zombies with no effort while living in mountains and fat dude with katana who goes through horde without training
@@petrspetsnaz630 1: the blind man doesn’t kill zombies with no effort, he’s been blind for years and thus is able to maneuver and sense things easily (as is true for blind people irl) and he survives in a nature preserve for many months before being introduced to the occasional zombie that wanders through the woods to him, giving him time to adapt. Of the millions of blind people in the world, it wouldn’t make sense for one or two not to get lucky enough to survive. 2: the teenager (I don’t recall him being fat, he’s just a shut-in nerd) doesn’t go through the horde with a katana, he waits for the initial chaos to blow over and then tries to sneak out of his apartment, injures himself, just barely doesn’t die, and then finds a katana in the apartment of a veteran neighbor, and that’s where the chapter ends. We later learn that he escaped into the wilderness and eventually meets the old man. Of the millions of shut-in nerds in the world, it wouldn’t make sense for one or two not to get lucky enough to survive. Remember, the author is interviewing survivors after the fact. The only people in the book at all are those who got lucky. I found the book incredibly realistic and of the of all the apocalypse fiction I’ve ever seen it’s the most interesting and the only one where human civilization isn’t a laughable pushover. As someone who has read a metric fuck ton of books in my life, I can honestly say it’s my favorite standalone one (aka excluding series’s).
11:50 Also an important note here is that in this part of the map (at least in my experience) there is a chance for a Tank or Witch to spawn, meaning that the group was killed just a few minutes or hours before we got there
At 5:34 it's possible one person was staying up to keep watch while the other one got some rest and they keep one of the sleeping bags rolled up in case they had to make a quick escape and had only a limited time to grab there stuff.
It was a Tank. Witches don't tear people in half, they just slice them to pieces. A Tank would absolutely have the strength to do that. Could have been a Charger as well but this campaign came out before the Charger was made so this is unlikely.
Instantly subscribed. This is the stuff I need. Not some dude making a 2 hour video about how left 4 dead has changed his life and how it’s an allegory for whatever. Thank you.
Left 4 Dead does have allegories in it though -- it's not a stretch to think The Parish is satirizing the response to Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, for example. Valve loves satire and their environmental storytelling is a big part of that.
I wonder if the random barricaded rooms were being used by the military or survivors as body storage. There's not big piles of bodies around like in No Mercy so they must've gone somewhere. Perhaps the barricades were insurance in case someone wasn't completely dead.
4:28 if I could remember, there are combat engineers in the military that are taught in making bombs and are trained how to use them, as part of their training to enable them to perform essential tasks in the battlefield like breaching obstacles, destroying enemy fortifications, and clearing pathways.
i will say it's really interesting that l4d1 has maps that seem to imply that basically all U.S. cities are overrun, while l4d2 has maps that seem to imply the infection is limited to the east coast- though character voicelines seem to imply that the infection is present everywhere. the idea that the infectiom has started on the east coast and in spreading outwards strikes me as more realistic considering l4d's zombies are the result of an infection, but most zombie films tend to play it fast and loose with their infections so i suppose it isn't worth getting twisted about
Glad to see you continuing this series wolfcock, Environmental storytelling is something I like to include/work on whenever I (rarely) work on a mapping project, and its always cool to see examples of it to get the mind working.
Yesss I was so excited to see this pop up in my feed! Despite being a fan of the L4D franchise, I am woefully bad at the game and so mostly get my zombie fix from watching others play and/or lore deep dives. I've really enjoyed your two videos analyzing the environmental storytelling so far! Not a lot of folks dive into that beyond the graffiti, and it's refreshing to get new glimpses into what living in this situation COULD be like. Looking forward to more in this series!
12:24 with how far the top half is and how beat up the container is it could be that a tank came through ripped him in half while he tried getting away and either carried him all the way over there.
Excellent video, I enjoyed it a lot. One of my favorite things is the silences you leave while looking at the ambience, really adds to the atmosphere and I like the pacing and sensation it adds to the video.
I watched this last night but wanted to come back to leave a comment - This and your previous video are great. I really like these, I was always impressed or unsettled by some of the subtle hints they gave in some levels. I'd love to see more of this.
I just found your channel through the last video Analysis so far i gotta say i love it, it scratches a niche that very few people actually care about so thank you keep up the great vids gained a new subscriber.
Regarding pets, I honestly feel like it could go either way. Seeing as we never encounter any animals with the green flu though, it is more likely that the “Or pets” bit was for the pets safety. However I don’t think it’s about that at all. I think it’s more so an indirect warning that basically means “Do not abandon whatever route you are on now to go back. Do not go back just for loved ones.” insisting that whoever is reading should focus purely on their own survival
I remember subscribing yesterday after finding your content and really enjoying the No Mercy analysis along with checking out some of your other videos, and realizing how much I wished there was more stuff from you to watch. Now I have even more to look into! Also, quick aside- I like to think the singular doors barricaded in places like 7:18 were largely quarantined rooms, whether improvised by survivors or CEDA is definitely up for debate, but I doubt that two giant desks like that were meant to keep only a single infected inside.
Just found your channel man and I really like your analysis of these maps, and the facts that you go over stuff you missed and take the comments to heart is really awesome. Can't wait to see the rest of the maps, very much like the creator "Conz"'s story.
Commenting to provide support to continue this series. As someone who loves environmental story telling I am shocked, SHOCKED, that I missed so many details. Keep this up, I love your approach and perspective.
1:04 this greyish/white helicopter actually has Marines written on its tailboom. Also an interesting fact about this and News chopper 5 is that both have completly gibbed wrecks in the l4d1 files that go unused.
The L4D1 campaigns are really rich in story and I can't wait to see what you say on Dead Air and Blood Harvest, as they have a lot going on. It's anticipating to see Death Toll next time. Subbed.
I played this game a lot when i was a kid, and i wasnt old/smart enough to understand the worldbuilding or a lot of the jokes or the environmental storytelling, i had the same issue with Portal 2's humor, so a lot of this stuff blurs into the background when i play this series is helping me a lot with just understanding how grim of a world left for dead really is.
The zombie genocider episode 2 achievement reference is wrong. That achievement wasn't added until the Last Stand Update. So that grafiti literally could NOT have been referencing it.
This series so far is super interesting. I’m surprised I never looked into the environment more with how many times I’ve completed the campaigns. I hope you cover the rest of the maps in the games
This stuff really is really good gives the details of each map since I don't take into account on what the background story of every little details, thanks
the level design of l4d was always my favorite thing about it and you do a great job of illustrating what makes this game so special that i still want to hear about it all these years later. keep up the great content dude :)
Keep it up man, like someone else said before it reminds me of old youtube without red arrows and oh faces to attract kids to watch their videos. This is to the point, and great. You will succeed but ya gotta keep it up! Stay gold.
4:31 i mean considering most of the bodies are alone it could show that some if the soldiers were getting cut off and had to survive on their own aswell with improvised weapons or maybe even just showing how much the infection is hitting supply lines with soldiers having to make pipe bombs over using grenades
I don't think pipe bombs were made out of desperation though. They're clearly designed to specifically draw in infected and it's so effective that even our regular survivors started picking up and using them and even most likely making their own. At least some sort of planning had to go into that.
Never noticed the raised railway running through the whole level, that's a really neat way to tie it all together! All the cars heading in one direction is great too. Seeing all the little stories these maps try to tell really reminds me of making Forge maps in Halo as a kid and trying to do the same (obviously without quite as much success lol)
Ive played l4d since i was like 10, and not once during my years of playing did i ever see the pilot. This is so cool seeing all the little things you dont normally see unless you take time to examine it during games
2:50 There were audio files in the game folder that depicted how the pilot slowly turned into the infected. I remember the line "I feel cold... really cold" (not exact) and shortly after he starts making infected noises. Maybe Zoey killed the pilot befote he fully turned, which is why he still kinda looked human.
I love these so far! Keep it up! I cant wait for the rest of them, the only thing i could maybe ask for as of right now would be more explanations to the survivors interacting with the maps (aka saferoom transitions and food supply situation, also if time passes, that too)
I really liked the first one. I love environmental storytelling, I’d love to see all the levels and maybe also the second game, I know you said a lot of people already went over the writings on the walls but I think they’re still important in relation to environmental storytelling. Thanks for the videos
I'm pretty sure that whatever got jason was a tank. The container is all messed up with it's entrance forced open, and we've seen a tank grab people by the head AND the feet at the same time in the left 4 dead 1 intro
Thank you for this, Wolf. Crash Course was set up in a hurry and Whitney County, being an industrial district, can get bland to look at, so these insights into details help give this part of the game some much-needed nuance. Jason's legs are a total mystery. The complete lack of blood on the bag where they are is bizarre - the only thing that would make sense is if someone carried them there and placed them down long after the blood dried up. Maybe a person in the middle of turning Infected, that did it because they were losing their mental faculties and grasp on reality? Possibly a person in his group? 🤷🏻♂️
The common infected aren't any more durable than uninfected people. Therefore, somebody that loses a massive amount of blood couldn't just get up and attack people when they succumb to the infection.
That and they don't eat people either. That's the only thing I find in these videos that is flat out wrong. L4D "zombies" aren't actually zombies they're just people infected with a rabies like virus that causes loss of higher brain function and increased aggression. To further prove this, zombies don't typically die from gunshot wounds to the body. These "zombies" do.
The "zombies" in L4D are infected in a very similar vain to "28 Days Later", rather than something like "Dawn of the Dead"; the infected are still very much alive, so can still be killed like a normal person. If the recently turned infected damaged their victim's head, or broke the neck, then they wouldn't turn.
OMG!! It’s really sweet of you to mention me directly! Keep laking videos like this and you’ve got yourself a subscriber! i like your videos that Ive seen so far
I’m back from the other video really happy you’re doing these videos I love them and it’s really interesting to see! Keep these up bro :) do more if you feel like it I’ll definitely do my best to support
Great timing, I just finished the last video yesterday. You should expand this into a series and cover other games with well-detailed levels once you're done with Left 4 Dead.
The small puddles of blood in random places could've been from infected wandering around.
As some vomit blood in their idle animations.
That’s possible, but I’ve also figured it’s survivors dispatching then removing the body of infected.
@@shcdemolisher If the infected corpses are close to where they were camping out, sure that sounds logical. Otherwise, I don't think anyone is stupid enough to touch (even with thick gloves) corpses of zombies from unknown disease that wrecked the planet.

@@fgp0032 So you have at least one of them packed, if you have to leave hastily. That's one reason that comes to mind.
"PETAH
THE HOARD IS HERE"
-The guy who was waiting for Peter until he died
@@theotv5522 *COACH's group
Given that his body doesn't look infected there's two possibilities:
1. He attempted to pick those survivors from the street and got infected, leading to Zoey killing him as he turned mid flight
Considering survivor writing says it can take minutes to turn someone (don’t count me on that)
It’s such a broad theory. Francis, Zoey, any one of them could’ve also assumed and shot him when it was possibly never the case that he was diseased
One of them said why did you shot the pilot before beginning the campaign.
I do believe there is a dev commentary that mentions this
@ take everything I say with a grain of salt. It’s 3 in the morning and I’ve never sat down to listen to all of the dev commentary
Yep, the lack of blood makes it hard to believe the inside of the container was where he was killed.
@@AlphaGarg Sounds right tbh, fair enough maybe there is blood just under the container
Or C: the military shot the plane down
3:00 its possible that the pilot not having infected eyes is due to the fact he would've been killed mid turning
we’re just not considering that jason was METAL AF and crawled that far away after being bifurcated out of sheer determination
Yeah, really wondering what happened to him… I mean, how.
Honestly? This is the theory that I subscribe to.
1:31 There I am, Gary! There I am!
Watching these videos is like going down the memory lane, back when i was a kid, discovering these stuffs, piecing together the story and talk to friends about it at school.
Happier times
Great video! I wanted to point two things out:
1- the helicopter pilot did actually turn.
Could be that the map was meant for a campaign far later in the story.
Or the people holled up in that safehouse were picking where to go?
Then why does this footage from 14 years ago without any addons at all have the voice line in it? ua-cam.com/video/Vzg3jS2FMdk/v-deo.html
Yea, and some custom campaigns like Fairfield Terror re-enable those lines.
@@syzykitty Outro Voicelines Restoration ;)
So glad you’re continuing this! I love the ambient noise you put on - makes it very atmospheric, especially in this winter.
I'm gonna remember this a year from now
One depressing fact about The Church Guy is even if he wasn't bitten he was still doomed when the 4 Survivors of L4D1 would come through due to them being Carriers. They would have caused his transformation to an Infected after Death Toll.
i fucking love it when you analyze the enviornmental storytelling in left 4 dead
5:30 5:35 5:45 6:00 I like how you can hear zombies crawling around on the roof as part of the ambience, thats pretty creepy
So glad you're doing more of these! Keep it up they're amazing!
You have the voice and the wits for this type of thing man, can't wait to see your channel grow.
Great story building you may be the only UA-cam channel talking about this and I love it
Watched your No Mercy video last night hoping this would be a series, and to my delight Crash Course arrived!
This is awesome! I hope to see more of these types of environmental examinations. For the rest of the first Left 4 Dead, and its sequel!
Dude, i swear i only pulled you up to have some background video while i was playing runescape, but i got so immersed by this, the storytelling, the quiet, calming voice, the lack of any random sounds or edits, just pure theorycrafting and ambience, i'm definitely subscribing and liking for more, keep it up
0:48 blood transfusion is almost indentical how zombie infection started in the book World War Z
Yeah that and the illegal organ trade. Been reading the book. I stopped at “Turning The Tide”
@@Frostaltered Book was nice until story went to japan, where author started to write some anime with blind oldman who kills zombies with no effort while living in mountains and fat dude with katana who goes through horde without training
@ That sounds kinda funny actually.
@@Frostaltered But book takes itself super serious so you should take it as real as possible. And in japan author lost me
@@petrspetsnaz630
1: the blind man doesn’t kill zombies with no effort, he’s been blind for years and thus is able to maneuver and sense things easily (as is true for blind people irl) and he survives in a nature preserve for many months before being introduced to the occasional zombie that wanders through the woods to him, giving him time to adapt.
12:00 Either Karen turned into a witch soon after, or a tank found them (in that case Karen probably ran away before she got killed)
It was a Tank. Witches don't tear people in half, they just slice them to pieces. A Tank would absolutely have the strength to do that. Could have been a Charger as well but this campaign came out before the Charger was made so this is unlikely.
You gotta do more of these videos. I have 100s of hours in both L4D games and this gives me a whole new appreciation for the environments in it

Instantly subscribed. This is the stuff I need. Not some dude making a 2 hour video about how left 4 dead has changed his life and how it’s an allegory for whatever. Thank you.
lol who is that? wowsuchgaming?
Left 4 Dead does have allegories in it though -- it's not a stretch to think The Parish is satirizing the response to Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, for example. Valve loves satire and their environmental storytelling is a big part of that.
Same!!! 😊
Who are you alluding to?
God forbid a piece of art touch someone. Also brain-thinky hard. :c
I wonder if the random barricaded rooms were being used by the military or survivors as body storage. There's not big piles of bodies around like in No Mercy so they must've gone somewhere. Perhaps the barricades were insurance in case someone wasn't completely dead.
I was waiting for this series to continue! thanks for pumping out these quality L4D2 content.
4:28 if I could remember, there are combat engineers in the military that are taught in making bombs and are trained how to use them, as part of their training to enable them to perform essential tasks in the battlefield like breaching obstacles, destroying enemy fortifications, and clearing pathways.
i will say it's really interesting that l4d1 has maps that seem to imply that basically all U.S. cities are overrun, while l4d2 has maps that seem to imply the infection is limited to the east coast- though character voicelines seem to imply that the infection is present everywhere.
the idea that the infectiom has started on the east coast and in spreading outwards strikes me as more realistic considering l4d's zombies are the result of an infection, but most zombie films tend to play it fast and loose with their infections so i suppose it isn't worth getting twisted about
🎉 Felicidades por la atención. Estoy ansioso por la siguiente campaña.
These are pretty awesome, I can't wait for the others
What makes Left 4 Dead Endtimes so cool is that it just happend 1-2-3 Days ago and everything is so fresh.
Subbed.
Just finished your no mercy video for the first time and hoped you had something else.
I played this game a lot when i was a kid, and i wasnt old/smart enough to understand the worldbuilding or a lot of the jokes or the environmental storytelling, i had the same issue with Portal 2's humor, so a lot of this stuff blurs into the background when i play this series is helping me a lot with just understanding how grim of a world left for dead really is.
i love these videos, big lore fan! environmental storytelling is my favourite part of games and videos like these help me fix my lore nerd cravings.
From all the l4d lore videos, I’ve been waiting for a series about the environmental storytelling of the game so thank you a ton for making it happen
Oh hell yeah! I loved the first video and I'm glad you're doing more of this, I really love it! Keep it up!
The details that you get from these small areas of the map add so much more depth to.
This stuff really is really good gives the details of each map since I don't take into account on what the background story of every little details, thanks
Oh my goodness, just found this channel yesterday and there’s already a new video?! You sir are amazing! Keep up the great work and series!❤
the level design of l4d was always my favorite thing about it and you do a great job of illustrating what makes this game so special that i still want to hear about it all these years later. keep up the great content dude :)
I didn't get to say this on the No Mercy video, but with the ambience of the game and your voice makes your video an ASMR experience
These videos are great, the little details are what makes l4d interesting. Keep up the work, deserved a new subscriber.
These are awesome, you do it really well and would love to see this more. A nice little series to help build the world
This is a great form of video! Loved the mercy hospital vid too 🔥🔥
4:55 is probably the most powerful form of subtle storytelling. Broad speculation of what was and is
I'm pretty sure that whatever got jason was a tank. The container is all messed up with it's entrance forced open, and we've seen a tank grab people by the head AND the feet at the same time in the left 4 dead 1 intro
10:26 Allison is getting roasted from left and right😮
the way you narrate and talking about the stories of the scene it really gives me the chills and scared if this infection ever becomes a reality
Hell, yeah! I loved the previous left 4 dead video, hoping you do one for every campaign!
You killed it with Left 4 Dead video. More of that sure thing
6:00 so why did those guys not turn into zombies?
The "zombies" in L4D are infected in a very similar vain to "28 Days Later", rather than something like "Dawn of the Dead"; the infected are still very much alive, so can still be killed like a normal person. If the recently turned infected damaged their victim's head, or broke the neck, then they wouldn't turn.
OMG!! It’s really sweet of you to mention me directly! Keep laking videos like this and you’ve got yourself a subscriber! i like your videos that Ive seen so far
After grinding cons’ series YOUR series here you got is 10x better I love it
I’m back from the other video really happy you’re doing these videos I love them and it’s really interesting to see! Keep these up bro :) do more if you feel like it I’ll definitely do my best to support
Great timing, I just finished the last video yesterday. You should expand this into a series and cover other games with well-detailed levels once you're done with Left 4 Dead.
this was REALLY nice to watch. You should do this for more zombie games
Another banger of a video. Guess there ain't other way but become a chrnocically viewer of this new series that has just begun haha
