Do the logs have to dry before they can be used?
No, that could take a long time, lumber is usually sawn green. New houses and buildings constructed from timber often take up to a year to dry out. My condo had a lot of shrinkage and wall gaps appeared and were taken care of by the builder a year after we moved in.
