Fantasy self wants to completely declutter and organize both my kitchen and bedroom before Summer. Most likely only one of these will happen but I’m staying hopeful. Thanks to you, Dana and Dawn, I have been working hard to declutter (the donation center knows me by name now 😊) and take my house back 🎉 This definitely is a work in progress but I am here for it in 2023 and beyond 💫🚀

I absolutely love this organize kitchen. You did well.
Please tell us where you got those under the sink storage bins. Those are perfect for under the sink.
Fantasy me wants to write a book that I never even got started.
Fantasy me wants to become speaker and get A LOT of money all while telling my testimony to people and helping them out.
The people that I have talked to have been motivated and inspired by my testimony.
In real life, not fantasy me, it is all because of God, however it does count for something. 🙏🏼 for me.
Also, I don't know if you heard of: The Holderness Family. They are on UA-cam. When I heard the end of your video Cass, I thought that you and the wife would get along and relate. You should check them out. They make funny, relatable videos. And I mean VERY practical, relatable videos. So relatable that it's actually embarrassing to admit it, but that's life and we're all in it. 🤦🏼‍♀️😂🤷🏼‍♀️

      Good luck to you !!

My sister-in-law organizes her spices in alphabetical order. I am a bit of a spice junkie and I find that it is better for me to organize by function. I keep all of the baking spices together, all of the peppers, chilies together, etc

There were some good ideas in here. I am not a Cricket, but I love the idea of the organized spices. So 12 years ago, a friend started teaching me how to knit a sock but I moved and didn't have a pattern so I stored it away. I am happy to report I have picked it back up and I am almost done with it. I did have to watch a million youtube videos and read many patterns to figure out how to proceed but I almost have one sock. Who knows, I may have a pair in another 12 years.

On the one hand - spices organized that way look nice. On the other - jars in various shapes help find the spice much quicker than labels, and if you use one spice more often that the others the bigger jar is more convinient that uniformized jar and a bag in the pantry.

I didn’t realize I had a fantasy self until, you gave so many examples. Before this I would’ve told you I’m a realist. One of the ways I keep my fantasy self in check for the most part is by using Pinterest. I have a board for each dream and it’s free and I get to escape to Pinterest land every so often without hurting my pocketbook or anyone else🤗.

I'm a Cricket whose Fantasy self is working on organizing his genealogy with all proof perfectly done, all piles are correctly filed, the family photos are all digitized and ready for any family member wanting to see them from future generations, all the Christmas decorations are organized so they are easy to put up and take down, you know, all the things.

I found out at 37 I have ADHD pretty bad in Nov. The grief of what my life could have been like if I knew earlier was pretty rough for a month. But then I did the thing we're great at and learned everything I could. My family has gotten behind me and after watching a bunch of your videos we have spent the entire month of January decluttering every area of my homestead. Went minimalist in every area I could and made every item in my home have a home. I am finishing the kitchen today and then for the first time in my life I will have a clean organized house and the habits started to keep it that way. I was able to quit my job in September to focus on our homestead and woodworking and I plan on starting a channel about homesteading as a Neural divergent and I have a clean slate to work from. My brain has never been free of guilt or stuff I should be doing to be a good mom. I'm also an addict coming up on my 10 years clean. Thank you for putting out the videos about adhd they have meant a lot. Your story of your husband finding all of your dirty dishes meant a lot to me to know im not the only one.

Fantasy Shannon is also still putting off getting fit, eating healthy, becoming a ‘Cricut-Artista’, super chef, & garden guru.😂 I won’t say that decluttering, getting organized, & repairing, beautifying my home are fantasy. They are taking much longer than in my fantasies but those things are really happening! I’ve made so much progress and YOU have been a big part of that! I’m still determined that getting healthier has to stay on the table because, if I’m not healthy, then none of the rest really matters. 🤷‍♀️. Can’t wait to read your novel!! Thanks for all the inspiration, motivation, & fantastic ideas!❤️❤️

I use a lot of clear containers, it does look nice, but remember that space is needed for the remaining walnuts, flour, etc. that still remains in the bag. Mine goes into the basement. You did a great job on the kitchen (and so did your Dad!)! And yes, I hear you about my Fantasy self. ♥My fantasy self wants to sew more than I do. Like, all my sewing stuff is out and cluttered and life takes over and I look at the clutter and after 35 years am still a beginning sewist. 😭

May I recommend the Feng shui guy? His channel is Dear Modern.
I've not ever been especially drawn to Feng shui, but his spin on it is so very functional. I've used his ideas to greatly improve the flow and zen of my place. He focuses on the macro tho, not what to put in each drawer, but Cass and the adhd girl can finish that up for ya.

I agree with @Marit Husby . I am a ladybug and I need simple(no lids), hidden organization or I can't maintain it. Fantasy Diane makes a cleaning schedule so my house will always be clean--but I never stick to it! I also make a meal prep monthly schedule and only stuck to it for 3 days! I love making lists and charts, but the follow thru is almost non existent! I'm 73 and retired, so I have all this time to do things, but I don't want to! Sometimes I feel like a 2 yr old doing the "I don't wanna" thing. I had so many years of "I have to" do things--that I'm hoping this is a phase that I'll grow out of!! Lol!

Love these tips! I'm a ladybug and have been using very practical cardboard boxes and masking tape labels with great success to compartmentalize my cupboards, but I never thought of using little bins and containers in the fridge. I think that will be such a huge game-changer!
My fantasy self is a novelist as well. (She also feeds her whole family on pennies a day from her organic garden and cans/dries the surplus and makes all her own clothes so if the apocalypse comes they're all set.) PLEASE finish your novel! I love middle-grade and YA fiction and would totally read that. :)

Just so you know, bins in the fridge have their uses, but really impractical when you get to the point where you need to defrost a whole bird, or cool down a pot of chili or have a big family dinner's worth of leftovers to store. Plan on needing at least half a shelf that is not being used up by bins. A full shelf is better.

Wow, it's truly amazing on how just a few small organizers can transform a space so much! We re-did our kitchen over a year and a half ago. I decant a lot now and label bins and such in my pantry and it's amazing! For the most part it stays pretty tidy and organized, especially since it's a no brainer where stuff goes! My fantasy self will have my craft room the same way someday, and my bedroom will become a sanctuary instead of a hot mess express of stuff just being dumped, and I will also get back to the gym and back to feeling motivated, energized, and productive. *sigh

    • @valeriesittle6198
      @valeriesittle6198 Рік тому

I had that same problem with my new kitchen and decided to add small shelves to the counter tops. One is for small appliances that are put together. Another two small shelf units were added to the sides of the stove to use vertical space with a narrow counter space on each side of the stove. Since I didn't have upper cabinets added for a wall of windows that I wanted I had to downsize my dishes to shelves also. That was easy because now they can be seen and easily reached for. Just try to go vertical as much as you can 🥫.

Fantasy me has all these puzzles I want to have the space and time to work on with hubby & kiddos. Also, several crochet projects for fmaily members. (This one I am actually making progress on. Not in time for my sister-in-laws birthday this month, but definitely by Christmas since I'm over halfway done). Now, I'm 5mo pregnant with little #3! I discovered the Minimal Mom who mentioned you and what's your clutterbug style (I'm a bee through and through but hubby is a butterfly - which I'm discovering I can work with). So nesting is hitting me hard and I'm making more progress than I have in YEARS! I LOVE you and your energy and videos and stories! It's so wonderful to know I am not alone and I now give myself grace and forgiveness and know it's ok to let things go. They're just things and not as important as time with my family. I just found your channel and dealing with sever copd and being overwhelmed with a move to a state that has sent me to the hospital 3 times in a month with breathing problems… I know that once I start a lil at a time I won’t be so stressed and that will take a little off my health issues and hopefully keep me from riding in the back of an ambulance for awhile 🥴 I haven’t even finished unpacking our house because it stresses me out to the point of not being able to start and that is not a way to live. So I am going to keep binging your videos while I recuperate from my last episode last week and not do anything taxing (per Dr orders) so that I have great ideas written down to start me on a journey to hopefully a less cluttered and easier to manage home. Thank you 💜🫶🏻

Love how nice everything looked after you organized it all! Eager to read your zombie apocalypse novel. :) When I have a project that I know will take a lot of time, I tell myself I just need to do at least something on it each day. That's how I sewed an entire crib set and bumper years ago for my daughter. Some days I only cut out one small piece or sewed one seam, but other days I had the time and energy to do a whole lot. It was the daily commitment to it that did the trick and helped me not feel overwhelmed like I would if I'd tried to do it all at once. That way I didn't feel bad if I only did one tiny thing because I was still accomplishing my goal of doing something each day. Best of luck to you in your writing!

Okay, about alphabetizing spices. I read eons ago where an author (it was a library book) said it sounds silly or OCD or whatever but it makes sense! Many spices look similar so keeping them in alpha order means you don't end up with thyme when you wanted oregano or have to pick up several jars to find the right one. If you keep them arranged on a shelf or in a drawer (my latest win!) there's a hole where you took it out, so it's a 2 second win to put it back where it came from!

I am a cricket 100% lol I totally get the micro organizing behind closed doors...and am 100000000% an all or nothing person. lol I can proudly say that my kitchen organizing is done. Not gonna lie, I have a lot. I love to cook and find it more enjoyable to have what I need instead of struggling to make do (but I do try to avoid unitaskers if something else will do just fine). That all being said, I think the thing that has made the most difference in keeping it organized is storing things where I use them. It works so well that I have implemented it throughout my apartment.

Yer hilarious!! I can’t wait to hear that your book is finished! I picked up a tip somewhere about choosing one hobby (preferably one you’ve been putting off) to work on each month to actually complete SOMEthing. That way, you get at least 12 finished projects by the end of the year, and you learn more about the hobbies you actually want to continue pursuing vs. the ones that you’re done with. Last month for me… it was Macramé!! I totally finished a hanging cat bed as well as two plant holders! This month, I’m supposed to be finishing up some of the wool appliqué projects I have lying around… but it’s already a week in and I’ve yet to pull it out. 😬😳 Thanks for the giggles and great organizing ideas!

I'm so glad to see white appliances if your dad's and stepmom's kitchen, I'm 73 and I've had avocado, harvest gold, copper tone, almond, black, and black and white kitchen appliances, but my favorite is white, easy to keep clean, it doesn't show fingerprints like stainless, and it takes me back to my mom's kitchen with all white appliances. I'm Swedish Death Cleaning now, I took a three-ring binder and I write down what items I use every day, by the end of the six months I'm only keeping the items on the list, everything else is going to a hospice thrift store.

Their new kitchen looks so pretty! I really liked how you set up their pantry with the black storage containers with white labels. It just looks so classy.
I’m also totally like you in the sense I live in a fantasy land myself of all the things that I “want to do” but reality hits me everyday when I remember that I’m a mother of 3 boys 4 and under. Fantasy me is definitely on the back burner these days. However, also why I’m watching your videos! Because I suck at storage solutions for these boys!! And myself! But mostly the boys with their clothes and toys.
I’ve learned some already from you that I didn’t know. Your kid videos have been so helpful!! Thank you!
Also I took your quiz a week or so ago and found out I’m a ladybug too! Although I think I might have some cricket tendencies because I kinda like to organize down to the minute things BUT usually I don’t have time to organize that way. Then whenever I do organize that way someone in the house destroys my organization and then it’s just makes me mad. So I think that the ladybug solution for the “family” is probably more practical especially now when the boys are so little.
Enjoying your videos!! Keep them up 😊 btw I’m sure you have saved more marriages than you realize with you teaching these techniques. 😉

I think it's helpful to show what you do with THE REST of the decanted items. It's a step that needs considering when people determine whether to decant or not. There needs to be a spot somewhere for jars or bags of what didn't quite fit or that will need replenishing soon.

The bad thing about decanting your groceries is that the package volume is always bigger than a container volume. So you've got leftovers. Lots of them. Sometiimes it's just a couple of tablespoons, but you can't throw them out, you can't use them all just now and you have to store them somewhere (and try not to forget about them).

My dad taught me a trick that I use on prescription and medicine bottles. On Rx bottles lids, using a sharpie, I put the abbreviated name of the med (like BUP 300), including the strength if you take two different doses of the same med. When you get a refill, just put the old marked lid on the new bottle. On pain relievers/allergy/etc bottles, I put the # of tablets and how often (4x6 hrs). Let’s face it. The directions on the bottle labels are so tiny, you need a microscope to read them.
