- Metal Masters 4
September 7th 2012, New York City
Our old man Mr. Philip H. Anselmo sings the Pantera song "5 Minutes Alone" at the Metal Masters 4, New York.
Kerry King (Slayer) plays lead guitar, Scott Ian (Anthrax) and Gary Holt (Exodus) rhythm guitar, Frank Bello bass and Charlie Benante drums (both Anthrax).
People are actually telling Holt,Ian,King how to play guitar, Benate how to drum, Bello how to play bass and Anselmo how to sing after30 plus years of doing such, amazing!!! Who knew UA-cam had all this hidden expertise in the fucking comment section!!!
You nailed it!
Phil wrote what hes singing for fuck sake lmao.
Always amazes me. A shocker how many undiscovered, brilliant musicians are yet to make it big....lol
@@coryrikard8943 the best of the best are the ones who didnt
PHIL FUCKING NAILED THIS ONE!!!
I fucking agree!!!!
Yes he fucking did
LOL How many guitar players does it take to replace Dime Bag?
a lot.
+Hen3025
&uyvbn
+The Wanderer Impossible job!
NO matter how many you have you cant compare
more than 3 :D
with 3 great guitar players they couldn't repeat what Dime does with 1 guitar, with no questions Dime was the best guitar player in metal ever!
groove metal*
agreed
Only groove :v
AHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA
Ya it's quite possible but i still think Zak Wylde may have something to say about that.
Phil was solid here. Fuck, actually he was very, very good here.
He has his good days, I've seen him on and off and waaay off, but I still like the dude no matter what.
Fact it takes 3 guitarists to fill in for 1 Dimebag.
straight2helll not true more like 1/2 a dimebag
and they are still not enough
3 guitarists to get barely dimebag no offense but the solo was trash
5 minutes alone was triple tracked in studio I think
I love dimebag but my brother thinks he’s a shit guitarist which is why I hate him 😢
Phil doesn't sound bad in this, I actually kind of enjoyed his voice in this.
Kowl Gockle Idk....... He sounds a lot better than he did in Japan when Pantera did their last show.
He does sound good-- some breaking up, but this shit is brutal...
AnthonY TenkkU Phil was brutal in 00', 01'. Love his voice from those years. He's surprisingly good here though I agree.
he was simply reaping it !
I dont agree with that. I think that Japan show was brutal. But this is also good.
I spent that entire video praying "Please don't let Kerry play the solo, please don't let Kerry play the solo, please don't let Kerry play the solo", and they did.
Hahahhaha
Ha ha, same. I was praying for Holt to do it. Then Kerry kicked in and was like noooooo! All those guitarists are badass in their own right. But only Holt has the minerals to try and do Dimebag a little justice. Dimebag is not an easy guitarist to emulate to perfection. But at least Holt could hit the right notes. 😂
i agree
Come on it was not bad at all
Kerry King just realized what power feels like.
DPM that badass whammy bar solo at the end of Goddamn Electric is Kerry King
Dime would mop the floor with these guys.
Kerry king is still a bad ass though but I'm not disagreeing. Speaking of which dime and Kerry were friends.
Dime would indeed wipe the floor with Kerry but they're both great players.
rcruz003 not Holt
So? Should the others just stop playing, then?
Dude it was his shit, Dime wrote it. Of course no one can replace him.
Wish he would play ONE Pantera song on each down show!!
so bad ass to hear phil doing pantera again
Dime played it even heavier by himself. There's three guitarists here and yet Dime played it 1000x heavier.
Well, in terms of sound I agree with your statement (Dime had a better one just with his guitar alone); whilst for what concerns volume specificly, just realise that we're talking about a different kind of venue (that's not a dome nor a stadium/arena), then a different amplification (in terms of quantity) and, since it's not to be sold as an official product, a different recording. ;)
its not about getting the same sound as Dime, its about honoring his image by playing his music.
***** No the guy is right. Dime had soul with an amazing guitar playing skill. It takes 3 people to play what dime could play himself. And as for recording. He played this live and it sounds better than recording.
not to mention Phil even admits before this song, that they were doing raw and uncut and far from perfect editions of the songs
lets put it this way personally kerry king would put dime to shame in a guitar battle (dont get me wrong i fucking love pantera to absoloute pieces) but in all honesty dime wouldnt have even written his riffs if it wasnt for king and slayer and anthrax and exodus and other thrash bands so yano theres that ;) no offence to anyone
R.i.P Dime
Phil is King and Kerry is Anselmo!
Vocals were on!
Phil's voice sounds a lot better in this one, But where the hell is REX?!?!
Seriously!!!!!!!
somewhere smoking blunts
Gabrielle Williams probably drinking and trying to remember past Pantera events in his own drunken crazy mind
In house
Dude! Phil's still got it!!! This is the best performance of this song since Pantera themselves!
God damn phil is sick.
You can almost see Dimes ghost flying around...
Yes, trying kill phil.
His voice is perfect in the beginning of this. haven't watched it in whole yet
47 years old and still has an amazing/brutal voice! i love this guy. \m/
Phil sounds great here. Love Phil, but it's almost always a roll of the dice with his voice these days.
Naw. There are a couple of videos with a back-to-the-90ies-Phil. Id say he should give his voice more off-time before and after a gig!
When he dropped the booze and smoking (I think) his voice came back with renewed strength!
xD well BACK is a bit too far out there and I doubt he ever quit :p
he still smokes
StrikerUSS he still smokes but i think it's just he allows a little more time to relax his voice after shows
thanks for all the respect of the the Great one!!! much love!!!
Phil was hitting his head with the mic cause he was getting angry he couldn't hit that long "alone" and then he finally got it
Raw fuckin' energy...everyone up there is totally into this...pure metal sludge at its finest!
Phil Anselmo: Voice still badass \m/
one of my best favorites songs
hail to the phill.
So many iconic metal faces here. I knew it would be good
RIP brother Dime and brother Vinnie
I cryed
Oh God... How I love this
You're dead on. People act like they've all been working on these set lists like they're a band that rehearses and plays gigs together. They all have their own schedules and have to fly in, meet up, jam for a couple of days to get as tight as possible in the given time and go for it. That's what's up.
Holy shit his voice sounds good on this one!!
Even though 3 guitarists couldn’t cover one Dimebag, they gave it a good shot, and man they ALL loved playing that beatdown after the solo. Way cool to see them enjoy playing the music left behind by their friend for us all.
God bless dime, Vinnie, and the mother fucking KID!!! You look up badass in the dictionary and it says PHIL H. ANSELMO!!! He blew his vocal chords out for us...the fans. Dime gave his life...and Vince was a gentle giant.
🤘😣🤘
the most METAL celebration in the fucking planet, Phil is THE FUCKING MASTER!!
Best song of the set that night
HAHA i love how the bald guitarists are on the right side of the stage and the hairded guys on the left xD Their headbanging to it makes it even more contrasting hahahahhahaha its so perfect
TheManwithafan lol True!
I love this..
Great vocals!!!
at his age......he still has it!
The way he sings "Can't be what your idols are" is so perfect in this clip. Wished he could sing clean like that all the time !!!!
Phil you are the GODFATHER of metal music !
Dude phil sounds great here . I love that man . Best metal singer bar fuckin NUN!
They didn't know how many guitar players that would take, but they knew how many they were going to use
This was uploaded on my 13th birthday.
Scott Ian . . . one of my all time favorite rhythm-riffers. Kerry King playing something with a groove?!! Dime would approve.
this right here is a thing of beauty. legends in their right. fuck yeah. its also my youth
It's impressive how better he sounds in 2023 , 11 years after. That's how harmful drugs and excessive alcohol can be. He surprised eveyone , I didnt expect his return could be that good, hope he keep it up
Heaviest song of all time by all accounts...
its abeutiful thing to see all these bands jamming to a dimebag song, im fuckin tearing up
Holy shit what a voice Phil!
phil, scott, Kerry together...fucking amazing
This is why I love this guy.
A Pantera reunion tour should happen. I think Kerry could fill in for dime.
It already happened, with Zakk Wylde on guitar, and i think he fits way more than Kerry does
I want 5000 years alone!
Kerry fcnk King doing the riffs and solo just right on !!
He sounds so much better at MM4 than he did at 3. Nice to see/hear him sounding so much better.
awesome
very good performance
This was badass
vocals are spot on
Phil sounded fucking killer on this and Goddamn Electric. I mean he sounded killer on all of the Pantera songs, but those are the only 2 they hadn't played at previous MM clinics. I can't wait for MM5! Phil's basically officially the house vocalist. \m/
Metal masters = fucking awesome Phil Anselmo voice!!!!
This is a sick performance
I really wish they had a gate on the guitars though, and maybe a verb pedal to kick in on the solo to make it soar. Still fkn amazing
thats the true metal
Holy shit, Phil's voice actually sounds bad fucking ass!
asome
PHIL MAESTRO DE LOS MAESTROS !!!
this aint metal masters without ellefson! i went to very first one and he definitely made it an awesome night with his kindness.
Scott Ian looks so enthusiastic and pumped up for this song
One my top three drummers....Igor cavelera....Chris Adler .
..Charlie benenante.💀🔥
Bad ass
No band in the Big 4 could not even come close to touchin Pantera
Shotgun 462 in the '80 Metallica and Megadeth were absolute beasts though.
(Sorry, I don't like Slayer or Anthrax enough to say as much abouth them)
Megadeth and Slayer kick the crap out of Pantera
Pantera is the king of heavy metal! Stronger than all heavy metal!!!
I wonder if Jeff Hanneman could do it.
Mercer Garnett Pantera would squash them like insects
probably this was Phils best performance of 5 minutes alone
gary holt, scott ian, kerry king, and phil anselmo, fucking ace!
You gotta love phil's voice!!!
man this is amazing
Kerry's headbanging 0:38
Phils voice is back... awesome!!! \m/
4:56 that would have been the most EPIC thing in the show
Woah! the guy from all the VH1 documentaries can play guitar!
Super!!!
Nothing will compare to the pantera, we know we get it. Just appreciate that all these old fuckers are still kicking fucking ass and rocking their souls out.
You think your voice won't change after 20 years a bit? I think he sounded great considering the fact he hasn't sang these songs for almost 13 years. And almost 20 since Far Beyond Driven came out. I think Phil sounded killer on this, and I'm not the only one.
No matter what any bassist does Rex Brown will always have the Kings seat at the ultimate rhythm section bass groove powerhouse. Vinnie and Rex are the greatest rhythm section to ever exist in metal/thrash metal history.
Rex has the single best metal bass tone. A huge inspiration to me and how I play bass. Frank Bello is also just as good
Deserves more views
Oh shit, Phil just killed it AGAIN
Its Dimebag and Ronnie James Dio. You can see that actual guitar on the rig rundown episodes on the Premiere Guitar channel here on youtube, Just search Anthrax rig rundown premiere guitar here on youtube. Peace,
increible,, como me gustaria poder ver un recital asi,,,
Yes
Ian is the man
This... is... so... damn... metal...
Phil can't sing and headbang as he use to do years ago, but he still sings and headbang as fucking hell!
Phil had back surgery in the early-mid 00s. He shouldn't even be headbanging
Gary Holt is the best player on that stage
Man the vocals on this are tight as hell
No one will ever be able to do the solo like dimebag
Next Metal Masters with Zakk Wylde, Alex Webster and Paul Mazurkiewicz from Cannibal Corpse, Alex Skolnick from Testament, and lets not forget, Gene Hoglan from Dethklok. Those musicians are fucking badass. Not to mention Charlie Benante is a big Cannibal Corpse fan. Inviting those guys would be awesome!!
Holy F'n Back up band!
Phil sounded good...damn
