    This stinks. If they think Apple TV is so great, let the other networks broadcast, and let them compete. Don't Block the normal broadcasts! I bet no one would choose Apple TV.

    As a Dodgers fan, I had to put up with the Apple TV broadcast team covering the Dodgers game this past Friday night. Plenty to say. First, Katie Nolan's involvement in the broadcast is like Dennis Miller in Monday Night Football all over again. Out of place, out of her environment, and a distraction from the game. Second, late in the game, the main announcer initiated a discussion regarding Jackie Robinson that took a significant amount of time in the broadcast. If they're going to do this, do it earlier in the broadcast, not in the 8th inning of a 2-run game. The discussion distracted from the game during a time late in the game when it was closely contested. Third, the announcers need to be paying closer attention to the game and pointing out important things happening that are not seen on camera. For instance, during the game, a Reds player attempted a bunt down the 3rd base line that went foul, and I was wondering why the batter attempted this. As the at-bat continued, a slow pan shot of the field revealed that the Dodgers infielders had shifted to the right, so that explained why the attempted bunt down the 3rd base line. But the announcers said nothing about the shift and nothing about why the attempted bunt. This announcing team was absolutely awful.

    • @JabroniBaseball
      @JabroniBaseball  2 роки тому

      I noticed similar issues with the Mets Nats game I watched the week prior as well. Too much talking in big spots. As an announcer one of your jobs is to inform the viewer as to what they may not be able to see on the field. So that bunt shift play is a prime example of them failing at that. Katie Nolan has said on twitter since the Dodger Red game that she’s going to continue to do “the job she was hired to do” so I wonder if she was given specific instruction to not talk about the game and just goof off for 3 hours. Definitely frustrating to watch overall but I don’t think they’ll be changing the crew or the style. At least they haven’t made any changes week 1 into week 2.

      It's bad enough that most of the country can't get their local team's games without paying an arm and a leg at any given time, not just Fridays. Their blackout rules suck. MLB Network wants to charge you a ton, and you still can't watch your home games.

    Celebrity broadcasters. That's all they need. Imagine a Brewers game with Bob Uecker, a Cubs game with Bill Murray, a Yankees game with Billy Crystal, etc. People will want to tune in for that alone. Or, get the two opposing analyst guys from each team's home broadcast in the same booth.
    They got the money, the power to override whatever licenses people might be under, even the tech to bring them in remotely and smooth out any latency issues. They can even still have their amateur UA-camrs in the booth if they want (but like you say, there are much better local Tubers that are more knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the game).

    • @JabroniBaseball
      @JabroniBaseball  2 роки тому +1

      That's actually a GREAT idea. I would love to watch games with a teams celebrity super fan. The mixed teams broadcast is also pretty solid. Good to have perspective on both teams. Clearly from this past Fridays Friday Night Baseball broadcast, doesn't seem like Apple is willing to listen to the criticism and make the right changes.

    • @slicklizardchamp

      I think this is a good idea. Use local celebrities from the home team and let them join the broadcast. Apple isn’t doing terrible with Friday night baseball (production quality is fantastic) but the commentary needs to improve. Overall though I think apple is proving themselves well

      and thus you are forced to watch the entire game "live".
      This is NOTT how I watch MLB anymore, even for my hometown team.

    Watching Jays on Apple TV for the second time. It is painful for me, and embarrassing for Apple. The commentators seem like they've never even watch a baseball game. Four commentators, and the camera is on them as they jabber, mostly about their own achievements (?), and game moments are totally missed. Bobble heads of the commentators being promoted? I almost barfed. And while an interviewer was chatting with the Yankees' manager on split screen, we nearly missed Hernandez's 2-run homer to put the Jays up 3-0. Hardly a comment from the booth. This is the most embarrassing display of broadcasting incompetence I have ever seen. But... I am only 71... there's still time for worse.

    This is how you fix Apple TV baseball. Fire everybody including the producer. Hire the NBC Peacock announcer Jason Benetti and produce a quality broadcast. Apple should take notes from Peacock and should have learned from FOX when they brought Summerall and Madden from CBS for credibility. Katie Nolan and Stephen Nelson on a startup brodcast is not credibility.

    The brightness level of the broadcast seems really dim. It's like they're playing in constant twilight.
    I don't have a problem with Nolan, I understand she's not there for baseball knowledge. The other announcers, I DO expect some level of baseball IQ when they call the game. It's been uneven so far.

    I think for their first broadcasts (and with a broadcasting background) they’re good. The graphics are simple and looks like what you’d expect on an Apple broadcast. I like the probability and walk up songs it’s unique.
    The DVR part I could care less for these days, because we have social media uploading highlights ASAP so people that miss something can check out a play on Twitter.
    As someone who is a young broadcaster at 24, I’m glad Apple is bringing in young commentators to call games like Melanie Newman (radio voice of Orioles) to bring in a younger demographic, but I wish they brought in color guys with MLB experience instead of young talent that have never swung a bat on the big diamond.
    Following up, it’s tough bringing young MLB broadcasters in the majors, and I’m glad that’s improving this year from Joe Davis calling the World Series, Jason Benetti doing games for Peacock, Amin on Fox, the Apple broadcasters, etc.
    Last thing, if anyone has bought a new Apple device in the last 3 months for the first time, they have no right to complain about paying for more games because they have a 3 month free trial of Apple TV+ that they can start until a year after they purchase their device. No offense, but I’m stating facts lol.

    • @JabroniBaseball
      @JabroniBaseball  2 роки тому

      I can agree with most of your points. Im just saying as far as replay and DVR, its kind of lazy to not have that feature for someone who wants to watch the entire game or even if they missed a batter or inning. And yes the free Apple TV+ for 3 months is good but it sucks having to add ANOTHER subscription when lets say you're already paying $100+ for mlb.tv where your local teams are blacked out anyway and possibly another $80ish for cable to get local channels to watch your time.
      As far as the commentating goes, I think they're a few tweaks away from making it pretty good. Just gotta listen to what the fans want out of a play by play and color commentator.

    Funny how Apple gave Houston the first team with this ESPECIALLY after having cheated with TECHNOLOGY

    I hate them replacing my home broadcast and I can’t stand listening to those women. They are just constant cringe and they don’t care/know anything about the game or the players. I opt not to watch my team at all

      I agree. And it's not like I have anything against women announcers because I am super impressed with the female color analyst with John Sterling during Yankee games. I don't remember her name but the two of them have the perfect balance of play by play and stats with a little chit chat

      Look up “Apple TV broadcasted an inning without sound”. It’s some beautiful camerawork
